    Came for the bamboo but highly enjoyed the rant about climate change!
    So many people out there don't understand the idea of cycles.
    Which is exactly why I'm researching bamboo, I'm planning on buying cheap desert land and trying to find out what the best type of bamboo would be to create a fence around my property while at the same time shading my dwelling, this would be the beginning of my desert garden efforts.
    Thank you for the video!

      Most of the shoulder along I-10 through AZ, NM and TX dont have ditches. So if you could get one of those cheaper lots that borders the interstate but has no legal easement, you can make your own easement/exit off of I-10 (even though it's slightly illegal).🤭Then try to work something out with your neighbors to get a titled, legal easement.

      It will do excellent. Greenlife nursery has them surrounded around the whole property for privacy and wind break. 🤠👍

    I wanted to get the one you pointed out as your favorite - it really is beautiful. But I didn't catch its name. What kind is that, please?

    I’m currently digging a 3X9 foot rectangular space next to my block wall. I purchased some bamboo barrier that goes to a depth of 26 inches that I will line this space so the roots won’t damage my wall. Other than Graceful bamboo, would you know of any other options that might work?

      When I 1st started 5 yrs ago I dug twice as deep and wide with square holes and amended 50% native soil 30% organic compost and the rest sand, lava rock, gypsum and coco coir. After planting now my soil has totally changed from 5yrs of woodchips creating a living soil with tunneling worms. With my chickens making my own compost now I no longer need to buy much. My bamboo feeds on itself and those leaves are a soil conditioner that adds silica. It's amazing this year.

    What gallon size of bamboo and other trees/plants for that matter when you buy?

  • @Adnancorner
    @Adnancorner Рік тому

    You can just get a cutting from the suckers that grow next to it.... Why buying again ?
    Just get a shovel and dig to harvest one of the medium size suckers, replant it in a pot within a month they will start growing.
    Or take a cutting where there is a node and put it in a wet paper towel to sprout. Pretty much like Sugar cane sprouting in wet paper towel.

      Ty and I have tried that without success but I have all the Oldhamii I wanted and 3 other varieties. Black Timor, Seabreeze and Tropic Blue all clumping varieties. I do want to try again with the black timbor though.

    Climate has always changed but it's the rate of change that matters. Without time to adapt you get mass die offs. All previous life had insanely long time to adjust.

    Most popular grass already isn't meant to grow in the desert, let alone the majority of America (idea of lawns came from Europe, and so did the grass for said style of lawn, UK having a much different climate to US). Bamboo is also NOT what you want to plant-It is agressive, can & WILL go through the concrete of your foundation, incredibly tough/frustrating to handle, and difficult to get rid of/stop once started. I'd recommend setting some deep, filled barriers to stop the bamboo from crossing into other's property or outside where you want. Furthermore, I don't agree with/believe climate change [earths huge and already has a natural filter process for gasses], but I agree with environmental change and pollution (like smog cities, look at China where your ears can get clogged from all the smoke in the air). One of those environmental changes being the complete disregard for nature you have; Rather than try to build a natural desert ecosystem (requiring less water and being a beauty of its own) you want to build the tropics. TROPICS. Know what humans can do? Bring shit to where it isn't supposed to be. which CAN and HAS had affects. The kiwi bird went extinct bc we brought predators to New Zealand; Prairies have dissapeared from invasive Asian plants. Know how that's definitely a real issue? Because politicians are more 'concerned' with gas and climate than they are the environment. I mean, they say they want to protect the planet; Then countries like Sweden put wind turbines in the ocean causing *irreparable* damage to the ocean floor, placing giant spinning blades on strong wind currents which birds depend on to conserve energy meaning they often don't have the energy to move in time, and the machines take constant repair/manufacturing. Nuclear energy though? Nahhhh, no manufacturers there to lobby to us, sorry.
    Lastly, neither trees nor bamboo make that much of the world's oxygen compared to the plant algae in the oceans; Not that having more oxygen matters, as the lack makes your body train to get more use out of less which is actually healthier-Honestly, trees and plants/gardens are better for scrubbing carbon than anything else.
    Still can't get over the fact you're tryna do this in the desert, makes me question my own autism lmao

      As far as invasive my varieties will Not be because we only plant Clumping varieties which will never run outside the footprint of its radius. Most Clumping varieties have about a 3-6 foot radius so not a concern especially with hard caliche clay like ours.

    Please provide some data regarding climate change

    • @sweetmandolynsurbanfarm7188
      @sweetmandolynsurbanfarm7188  Рік тому

      To provide enough accurate data I would need several thousand years of data. That's real science without narratives , agendas and theories. We can start by reading historical literature on weather and follow how climate has always changed with the patterns of our sun. I've been studying meteorology since the 70s (my 1st love).
