There is the technical answer and the more philosophical answer. The technical answer, the obvious one is the medium on which the content is recorded, where a traditional movie is shot on an emulsion based medium as a collection of photographic frames that when played back give the illusion of motion. Video is shot on an electrical medium saved on either a magnetic tape originally or now in a digital file based format. That being said, today there is morphing of the technology and though the process of techno evolution film is giving way more and more to digital recording only. Even when principal photography is done on film I can not think of a single Hollywood production today that does not employ some degree of digital editing, mastering, color correction or or sound mixing. So the tradition definition does not hold up. Which brings us to the second part of this answer. (Sorry, I tend to go long.) Movie today usually refer to a long format production, usually with the intention of a theatrical release regardless of the medium it was shot on. Short form with the intention of playing online, in social media, or a multi-episode TV program tends to be called a video. I don’t think I ever heard of an episode of Mythbuster called a movie but I did hear directors tell me they were shipping video.
