the pronunciations of the places is reason enough to watch this, so wrong so absolutely hilarious
I'm pretty sure it is an AI voice-over program. They tend to pronounce stuff as written, not spoken, unless you write the information phonetically.
"Edin berg" ... .yikerees.
"Ai" is a maybe but i suspect a young fellow with a great voiceover spark who never read or learned any correct local pronunciation. Too busy. Whatever🤗
I am 80 yr old USA and wince continuously listening to amer-english. But when i wuz a kid a mispronounced word caused adults to stop a conversation, a car ...whatever ... to administer a "correction."
I love the relationship between Jimmy and Tosh. He's so caring and supportive; apologises to her when necessary and always treats her as an equal.
Shetland is superb. I don't think there is anything better on British TV. (I also love Death in Paradise).
Shetland is my favorite series. I've watched every episode at least 4 times. I live in America and hope to visit Shetland Islands one day. It's so beautiful there.
I loved watching Shetland! Jimmy Perez is my favorite character. I loved the way he interacted with everyone.
Shetland, best series ever. Looking forward to season 7. Best wishes from Australia 🌺
Mark Bonnar should be in everything. Just everything.
You are the BOSS, Douglas Henshell!!
I just discovered this series and think I'm in love with the main character. 🙂 Also, the views of Shetland are absolutely breathtaking!
I like the whole cast and the way they interact! The show is very well written! ❤️🇺🇲
Please come back to PBS!!
I loved this show. My husband caught bits and pieces of Shetland and said it looks interesting, I concurred. I loved all the actors. I wish Douglas Henshall would land the main character like this one in America. He’s excellent.
Shetland brilliant series.
love Douglas Henshall all the cast are great, just think the show is terrific glad series 7 is going to start.can't wait a Scottie NOW LIVES IN AUSTRALIA
Love watching Shetland! I think I fell in love with Douglas when I watched him on Outlander… he was such a handsome rogue and his character paired well with Jamie. I loved his acting even though he wasn’t a “good guy” and I was very sad to see him get hanged.
Love this series. Awaiting Season 7.
I love this show after seeing Shetland on 35 up when Neil went to live there.
As a Scot, I absolutely love love love the mispronounced place names. I'm not insulting you, by any means. I think you should absolutely do a video of you just trying to say the names of our villages. It's brilliant my favourite was Argyll and Boot.
Please use a Scottish narrator. Then everyone will know the proper pronunciation for the cities, towns and islands in Scotland. The one you have didn't get a single one correct!
And not just Scottish place names. Also the mispronunciation of Hertfordshire!!
what a bunch of snots here.Seriously who cares????Just enjoy the content ,this isn't a teaching video on how to pronounce words. Some people complain about anything.
The pronunciation of the place names is pricelessly hysterical.Typical Americans, they are so narrow minded.
Hey, that was great getting a little personal with the cast. I wish them well, the lot of em.
It’s just a great ensemble, I’ve been in love with Julie Graham for decades. But there’s an elephant in the room you haven’t mentioned. We need to know all about the music👍🏼
I simply adore Doug.
I love them all but I will watch anything with Doug Henshall
Just watch Henshall in a movie several years old. It was fun--sorry the title eludes me--but his character was a far cry from Jimmy Perez. But that's okay.
Steven Robertson is the ageless wonder. I have Joyeux Noel on DVD where he plays a Scottish soldier in WW1. He still looks the same after all these years.
Loved him as Tarryn in Outlander
This is one of the best series in any language. I am trying to talk like Sandy but it is difficult for an American.
I adore this show. I’m surprised by ages of the actors.
I love them all. I was surprised about Julie Graham's 1st husband. 😢
These actors all look younger than they are.
What abt Sgt Billy McCabe????
Douglas doesn't live in London anymore, he returned to Glasgow with his family in 2018. The pronunciation of the placenames is horrendous, albeit funny.
③まで見ました これからの展開が楽しみです。😀
Americans always seem to have problems pronouncing British place names. Evident here
In Glasgao - should sound as Glasgo. Edinberg, in fact sounds as Edinbra. Glastonbury, Canterbury or any towns ending in “bury” aren’t said as Glastonberry or Canterberry. It should sound as Glastonbry or Canterbry
And if you hold on a minute, I’ve a French friend, who wants to discuss Notre Dame with you lol
Americans are not Scottish, and as such, should not be expected to properly pronounce the names of Scottish cities . Would you criticize a Scotsman for not pronouncing the names of Spanish, French, Norwegian , Cities like a native?
Yes, but much like anyone pronouncing any other countries' places correctly. No " biggie" as the younger set might say.
What about Billy????? Lewis Howden! He’s a favorite!
I live in Canada. I hope I can watch the new shows.
Canna help but laugh a peerie bit at the mispronunciation of place names in Scotland, but at least you didn't say "The Shetlands" (I'm fae Shetland and calling it "The Shetlands" is a sure fire way to piss off any Shetlander). But of the main cast you really can tell just by accents (providing you ken the difference between a Mainland Scotland accent and a Shetland accent) that Steven Robertson is the only one that's a born and raised Shetlander
Mi piace la serie quando si vedrà in Italia ? Grazie👍👍🙋🙋
My favourite Shetland character is PC Alex Grant would love to know about his personal and love life
The commentary is unintentionally hilarious.......the pronunciation of both English and Scottish place names was just so wrong.
best on tv
💖
Please change the orator for gods sake , GLASSCOW EDINBOR GET A PROPER ENGLISH SPEAKER
would you like to explain the way you said Edinburgh.
It's Glassgo.
This narrator pronounces these names so wrong. I am from the UK, with relatives in Scotland
It is Eddin burr ruh not Edin berg
Voiceover needs redoing. Some of the place names are horribly mispronounced. Inexcusable.
Would it not have been possible for a Scottish series to find someone to commentate who could pronounce Skaahtland and Glassgouh correctly? This is a series where people not only have Scottish accents, but in some cases (some more than others) Shetland accents. Imagine if Dennis Franz on NYPD Blue was coming out speaking with a Tennessee hick accent like Cletus on the Simpsons. Alientation of audience 1.
Ayrshire is pronounced as Air sher. Not Eric sher
I miss Julie in series 6
Very interesting series but you need to learn how to pronounce Scottish place names 😄
Hertfordshire is pronounced as Heartford sher. Nort Hurt ford …
Same birthdays.....? November 19th
British narrator, please.. Thank you!
100% certain douglas lives in Glasgow not london ,have heard him say often, glasgow is his home and always will be ,not sure how correct your information is ,give you 10/10 for effort here but your pronunciation of place names is fecking hilarious, never in my life have i heard Edinburgh pronounced like this 🤣
i do wish the narrator would learn to pronounce “ Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bute and Hertfordshire “ correctly
Edinburgh is pronounced as ‘Eddin bra ‘ NOt eddin berg
The narrator is just trolling us with the pronunciations of all the proper nouns. Horrendous!
Glasgow is pronounced Glazz- go NOTow as in cow
Love how the narrator mispronounces all the British cities and counties.
if only americans could pronounce english words correctly. eg glasgow, edinburgh, hertfordshire
Spoilers 😱😭😭😭
Check your details…DG moved back to Scotland before pandemic!!!!!!!
Man talk about mangling British place names this bloke is unbelievable
I love James Cosmos, sexy beast
How about learning some elementary pronunciation for cities like Edinburgh and Gkasgow? And WTF is Scutland?
LEARN TO PRONOUNCE BRITISH PLACE NAMES PROPERLY!!!!!!!!
??,Edinburg?? Its pronounced Edinborough.
I think you need to touch upon basic English especially with city names. Please do some research before making a fool of yourself
Love this show, but once the tasty Dennis Henshall is gone, so am I.
Can I ask that you get someone who can pronounce Scottish place names properly.
It is hard to believe he is only 53 but it amazing how many men leave that unattractive stubble on them that makes them look a lot older, especially with gray in it , or makes them look like a bum off the street. Who started that trend as only a few can do it and look o.k.
I agree Americans just don’t understand English.
Glasgow - hard "s" and "gow" is pronounced "go." It's not rocket science! And Edinburgh is pronounced "Edinboro." Good grief!
Ya gotta learn how to pronounce the names of Scottish and English cities and counties!!! Makes you sound so uninformed in this international era! Also, Dougie now lives in Glasgow and has since before the pandemic.
Before try pronouncing the cities or towns in the post get the right pronunciation. Bloody awful!!!!!!!!!
Yah if you are going to do a commentary on a location oriented show please learn how to pronounce the places you are talking about - Glasgow and Edinburgh are world renowned cities - come on! - learn how to pronounce those two at least!
Sorry most of this accent and American poor wording put me off.
If your going to do it, do it correct. Unless this is only for the Americans.
Shetland now awful without Doug Henshall. Miss him.
Eddin berg????? C'monyou could at least have a real person pronounce the beautiful city properly!! Disrespectful and lazy.
Why oh why do we have to have such terrible narration?
Never go to Glasgow or Edinburgh. With that pronunciation, you won't make it out alive.
Someone needs to write the words "Glasgow" and "Edinburgh" as "Glas-GO" and Edin-BURROW" when they are programming the AI voice over track for these videos. Trust me, I've used the technology, and writing stuff carefully and phonetically really helps. They could've also chosen a voice with a British accent as well. That said, "Shetland" is about the best tv I've seen this year.
