I've got the exact same problem and I'll be buying a new variator soon. I love the sound. after fixing I was "What? is that 1000 rpm? The engine's running?!" XD You gotta love that car, man.
Really a great job. Well done.i have just purchased a 98 Barchetta with low kilometers(21K) and here in Canada they do not sell this model.I wiil need to repair it myself when the time comes. I assume the variators are similar.
I have the exact same issue I can't pin point if it's the variator or the tappets, at idle the noise is only there until 2000rpm after 2000rpm the noise is gone until the idles comes back down and the thing starts making that annoying sound like the engine is going to break any moment... It even sounds like theres a shortage in the flow of oil in the cylinder head that's how loud and metal on metal knocking sound is, I've been told this is the tappets but I'm not sure, doing 16 of them only to find out I have a shot variator I will be so pissed...
@@Meox_YT it's always the variator. It get's stucked due to burned & dirty oil on variator. Even if you change oil or variator, the sound will come back again. It's a Fiat. There's nothing you can do
@@CarsByVincent That shit can' t be fixed. Afer 1000km, variator will make diesel sound again. It' s a bad variator design made from Fiat. FCA makes crapy cars
