Thanks guys!!!!! I just replaced my bulb on the drivers side and I’m a 60 year-old woman. You saved me a lot of money. One think I used is a very thin piece of rubber - the kind you have to help open jars in your kitchen - and that helped a lot with being able to grip and turn it to get it back in place. You guys are the best!!

Thanks for tips. Took me a long time to replace bulbs as I am no mechanic. My bulb blew on left side / hard side. I had trouble getting my arm behind the lamp unit and getting my hand in right position to release bulb holder from lamp. One tip I wanted to share is to use your left arm and face rear of vehicle. Only then could I exert right twist to release the bulb holder. Hope this helps.

Loads of Audi's and VW's that you have to take the front off to have enough room, this is extremely spacious in comparison.

3 years late comment. I think it is intentional design for Mbenz to make it difficult. They want you to take it to the dealer so they can charge $ 100 to replace.

Thank you for the explanation. Still took me a long time to replace the headlight bulb about 1 and a half hours because the bulb has to be inserted the right way round (only one way is right) and then the assembly also has to be inserted the right way round out of 2 possibilities.
To replace the headlight bulb on the right hand side, looking at the car from the front, just remove the overflow water tank. Undo the screen to the rear of it, and it lifts out of it two push-in holes below. Just move it to the left. Before doing this, in my '09 E350 Sport, I first remove the air intake section. These two things take a few minutes but allow your whole arm and hand to get to the bulb at a good angle. The left hand side shown in the video is actually the hard of other two, as there is nothing to remove to aid access. FYI.
Although accented in English, this video showed very clearly how it is done changing the light bulb
just remember to plug the bulb into the outlet, the same exact way you unplug it... there are little tabs that mark it

I changed mine today. Mine was the driver side and to be a little easier I moved to the side the coolant expansion tank.

Marcus lol ! That's the best. But at least it was a quick overview of how to turn the outer cover and the bulb socket assembly. Pain to get it fit back in for me.
I think you may have missed an important point. If you TOUCH the bulb you should wipe it with alcohol because the natural oils from your fingers will shorten the life of the bulb, or wear gloves to eliminate that problem. If you are competent enough and don't touch the bulb you don't need to do neither.

THERE IS no insulation around the wires close to the socket. is that normal.
The wires are bear for like 3 inches from the socket, can heat burn them away?

For some reason the h7 bulb will not fit into the bracket
I tried following the repair guide, but my passenger side (right side) low beam bulb wont turn in the assembly to be removed! I tried on the driver side and it seems to be working perfectly, however that's not the bulb I need to replace at the moment, any clues as to what's happening or how I can get this bulb to turn so I can replace it?

I had to replace that side first, it still sucks but there are a couple things you can do to make more room. Basically there is a fluid tank that can be moved out of the way, just take out the screw holding it in place (mine was a crappy plastic screw that broke, so I zip tied the tank back when I was done). 2nd thing is the fat intake hosing going from the grille to the engine can be removed/reattached by hand, no tools needed.

because I have my xenon bulb that is grilled and I have to change it

Mercedes had this figured out to perfection with the 202 and 210, and then introduced shit that almost requires ballerina hands

So both the Low beam and High beam both use H7 or what?
on my wife's car the high-beam is off of the park-light bulb. If there is only one bulb out on your car - you can verify where the high-beam bulb is by checking the "good" side.

Guys i really got pissed off by this, was in the workshop were an idiot was trying all the wrong things to replace this bulb. Why didnt u mention the black frame and how to unlock it in this fking vid man could have saved me an hour standing... !!!!

Yes - even the car manual did not make this obvious. Forcing the socket counter-clockwise would not free the bulb, you have to turn the frame around the socket counter-clockwise. Not obvious - since one is working in a "blind" space.

THE SALT on the fingers make the bulb BURN.....
The oils from your skin gets on the glass and oil retains heat which causes the bulb to operate very hot -- it then fails much quicker from excessive operating temperatures. Never heard of the salt theory before. edit: I guess it is also the salt which can chemically weaken the quartz glass too! Good to know.
