    I would agree with you that it is one of the more expensive places in Baja but I wouldn't agree that the mediun price to buy a home is a million dollars. We built a house here for less than 1/2 of that and we rarely eat out because it is expensive. Most of the restaurants are designed for tourists. If you're a local, you eat tacos or birria across from the park, Alma & Manny's or Miguel's. If you speak Spanish, you can tap into the non-tourist aspect of the town.

      Agreed Ann. You can definitely build cheaper if you are willing and able to do some of the work yourself. The million dollar price is from a local realtor of what’s being built and sold mostly to Canadian and USA expats. We do enjoy eating at the more non-touristy places! Hope you enjoy a great weekend!! 😎

      Not surprised. We were there May and June of 2023 when that was filmed. Thanks for the update. Inflation sucks no matter where you live. Hope your weekend goes great! 😎

    Parking is an issue because people keep uploading incomplete, erroneous videos. It is NOT cheaper here, and the more people flood the area, the more unpleasant it will become. A lot of people moving here are young online workers from the US driving up the prices because they don't know the environment and, frankly, don't care. So sad. 🥺

    1 million US dollar house is more expensive than many California places, $82 dinner is almost as expensive as San Francisco; Really ugly!

      I understand. Todos Santos is pricey. However, a million dollar house in Todos Santos is still less expensive than if that same house was placed in Virginia Beach, Virginia (where we’re from), plus the Pacific views are….wow! Food prices…very pricey. 😎

    Happy belated Birthday Renee 🎉! Cool place but way too expensive! Not cool for the locals. They should have better infrastructure for the prices! Thanks again for the video!

      Renee said, “thank you!” And you’re absolutely right. It’s like putting a Ruth’s Chris steakhouse in a poor neighborhood in Gulfport, Mississippi. Visitors can go get a steak but the locals can’t afford to. Strange world! Thank you Laura for joining us on the journey! Hope you’re having a great week!! 🙂

    Nice vids! We live in Todos Santos and would like to share a little with you. It is definitely expensive, and hard on the locals big time. The gentrification is sad to see for sure! But it’s not all rich gringos that live here. We certainly aren’t rich, but we’ve been able to buy a piece of land, almost an acre, in a desirable area out in the desert with ocean and mountain views for 50k. We’ll be building a1200 sqft home for around 120k. That’s considerably less than could be done in the states. As well, shopping at the local markets for meat, veg and fruit is about 30-40% less than the states. We moved here from Charlottesville Va, and the cost of living is way less than there! Throw in the adorable and great health care and this is hands down cheaper than the states…. And way cooler!!! I get it, your vid was from was a tourist’s point, but once you dig in, this place rocks! Follow our trip here and our adventure as we build our house, sail, and adventure in this region @sunlovesailing
    Thanks for the vids!

      Wow that’s great to hear! Several questions: how long ago did you buy your property; will you be living off grid or is power and water available? That sounds awesome and kinda what we’d love to do. Looking forward to hearing back from you. Thanks, Gene

      Thank you Aaron! We sure hope to at some point but due to Renee’s mother’s health we are having to reimagine our current life situation. For the time being we’re doing short trips. I do have a series coming up of my grandson Andrew and I traveling across Canada. 😎

      @Aaron-hg9ru yes we have lost that virtue in America. I blame the 24 hour news media. We are so divided and many feed on the unkindness. Hope you enjoy an amazing (and kind) week! 😎

    For a small town I’m surprised it’s that expensive, yikes ! To bad and definitely giving the wrong vibes to the locals.

    Another complaint I have been hearing is the strength of the peso. Expats who have moved to Mexico on fixed incomes the last 2 or 3 years planning on a certain budget, well, it has not worked out to well.

    • @GeneandRenee
      @GeneandRenee  Рік тому +1

      U,S. dollar has weakened AND the peso has gotten stronger. Baja peninsula is less expensive than California, and the mainland is less expensive than the USA in most ways. Some things you can just buy cheaper in the USA. However, real estate in the USA is the biggest part of most people’s budget and it’s more costly than Mexico. There are always going to be give and take with any comparison. Hope you’re having a great week my friend. Thanks for watching our adventures! 😎

    Are the pricings on the menu when you eat at the more expensive restaurants there? Be careful not to get ripped off. I’m glad you are saying something about the increased prices in that region and how it came to be so. Very disheartening. Loved the video tour and the city looks really nice.
    You guys be careful with those scorpions. I wouldn’t want those around either. I’d have to carry a blowtorch! 🤣
    What’s the next stop?

    • @GeneandRenee
      @GeneandRenee  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the prices are printed (I keep my eyes open for that). It’s just a pricey corner of Mexico. Upcoming episode on Real Estate will point that out.
      I spray scorpion poison around the door entrance every other night and haven’t seen any new ones. Definitely do not like those critters! Had a friend’s wife stung by one in Oklahoma…not nice!!
      Our episodes will continue on the Baja Peninsula throughout the remainder of this year. Glad you’re enjoying them! 🫡😎
