This Is Going To Be A Nightmare!

- This year has been anything but normal, and after Day 1 of combine harvesting, it's very evident this harvest is going to be a nightmare. With the 13-inch rain event hammering our fields in June, the effects still linger as the season comes to an end. The massive flooding made our corn very short and highly variable in moisture, which is making it extremely difficult to properly set the farm equipment. Join me in today’s video as we take on harvest Day 1 and learn why this year is very different from a normal harvest season for our farm

Matthias, aka HiTech Farmer, is a 5th generation family farmer from Southwest Minnesota who promotes agriculture by capturing it through the lens of a camera, one video at a time. Passionate about emerging farm technologies and the benefits of 21st-century precision agriculture tools, such as farm equipment, GPS, and autonomous tractors, Matthias is determined to bring new methods into his operation. These methods can improve his farm's efficiency and sustainability into the future. Learning from his parents' (Mike and Dawn) work ethic, Matthias sees every day as an opportunity to educate and entertain about the daily triumphs and challenges his farm faces, whether technology-related or not. His mission is to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of agriculture as he embarks on what it means to be a farmer in the modern era.
And so it begins, well sort of :)
but Hey Matthias, when unloading over the pit, activate only one set of the brakes either the trailer or the tractor,,, As the trailer empties, if both brakes are set, it puts a bit of a Bind on everything Suspension related on both tractor and trailer,, As the self-leveling air system is trying to adjust,.
(Edit,, I "generally" always do the same while loading as well)
Thanks for the tip! That makes since as the suspension is adjusting when emptying and filling. You maybe just prevented something on my farm from breaking down the road, and for that I say THANK YOU!
this is amazing! i love learning how you harvest and how all the different equipment works!
Thanks so much! More harvest videos coming...
Are your yields dramatically lower than the previous year?
Of the 48 rows we combined of corn thus far...yes
WOW! I mean..., WOW..., that green soybean contrast with those soybeans that are ready to be harvested..., at this time of year, is just amazing to see. I'm sure that a lot of your supporters, like me, are real interested in seeing how those late planted soybeans is going to work out.
YEAH time will tell if all the effort was worth it or not
amazing harvesting video I no last years harvesting video wasn't that much, so I hope this years be more harvesting video 🤞🤞
I have some stuff planned I think you'll like!
@@HiTech_Farmer I can't see your planned 🤔
How many acres do you farm in total?
The unwritten question when it comes to farming...
where is your little brother?
He's finishing his last semester of college. He may come back to help a couple weekends...if I can convince him
ill be be watching
Thanks SO MUCH!
good stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks
Welcome
When I try..., if I ever get in a position to where I can try my corn planting experiment, I sure could use several hundred thousand of those bare corncobs. I'm thinking that maybe visiting an Amish community might be the solution?
What would you want all the cobs for?
@@HiTech_Farmer I would really like to tell you, and I'm sure that you and your dad could supply some answers to some questions related to this corn growing experiment, like what is the best fertilizer and that sort of thing, but for now I have to keep it to myself. However, if it works, and I really think that it will, then I'll be able to break the new bushels of corn per acre record which, as you're probably aware, was once again broken with 623.8439 bu. per acre by David Hula. It's an extremely labor-intensive idea, and if it works it will probably only benefit the small farmer, but I'm going to give it a try..., Lord willing, and the creek don't rise.
Did that new sump pump pit next to your grain dump get all the water out? Or how did that all turn out?
I ended up shop vacuuming it out for us to use, but the pump has been running non stop for about a week
@@HiTech_Farmer oh well that’s good hopefully it’s a more long term solution. I’m sure it’s like field tile it takes a little time to work and drain down before holding the level down lower.
Yeah really will know more after a rain now
This was sooo interesting video to watch... thanks for sharing this content!
Appreciate it!
You sure have a balancing act to perform with harvest this year. I hope your dry soya beans survive with minimal loss until you can get to them
All the best from an old bugger who has been there done that
Time will tell... thanks for watching!
How's the new water removal system working for the grain pit?
The pump has been running non stop for about a week. I sucked the pits out with the vacuum so we could use them so know we won't know if it's working until the next rain
@@HiTech_Farmer I hope you'll give us an update when there's more to report.
