The neighbours both behind my house and in front of my house are working on construction projects which made it impossible for me to shoot a video.
Therefore, the only logical thing to do in this scenario would be to ride into the jungle for some peace and quiet.
I don’t regret much about coming to Thailand but if you're planning on doing the same, or even if you’re not, then, hopefully, the tips in this video will be helpful for you.

As a long term Hong Kong expat I can honestly say moving to Asia was the best decision of my life. Moved from UK aged 27 and been here for over a decade. Spent 4 months in uk back in 2019 and learned I had missed precisely nothing......Thailand, Malaysia and Bali are future options but one thing is for sure: I am never gonna finish my life in the West. The West is finished, at least for another one/two generations.
This gave me such inspiration 🙏

I've been saying this for years and love to hear it coming from you. People talk about reading books so much as if to make themselves look good just for asking what your favorite book is, assuming that everyone reads. I confidently say I don't have a favorite book. I don't read books. I search online for things that help me achieve my goal and that's it.
Yes I am also similar to you-I am better hearing with the visual component with the written captions on my tv and the internet as well
I LOVE the jungle sounds and ALSO that beautiful bird(s) that sings in the background at your house, too. Makes me feel like I’m someplace different and beautiful and exciting.
I never regretted anything about my year in Chiang Mai. Too busy enjoying life. I was a bit different from others. I was on a retirement visa but way too young for real retirement. So I took it as a kind of "gap year", a chance to try out living in a foreign country 'as if' I were retired. Highly recommend doing that, btw.
There is no cut and dry way to do anything...and never too late to make a change.

Amazing thoughts ! well articulated. You are absolutely correct that human mind tends to project the current environment resulting big error. You said it so well - "Maybe you're so scared because you're in an environment of fear" . So one has to get out and make a change in environment and experience life first hand for at least 2/ 3 months. Thanks.
I think many of us can relate to this, I spent at least my first year chasing that 4 hour work week, whilst neglecting what was really making the money. I would always advise though that you start to build a business before you come here, it really is much easier to take the jump and make it work when you already have some income coming in, otherwise the pressure is real when your savings start to plummet

Long Term Visa (1000_1300_USD/Yr), Motorcycle License (20_USD), Motorbike(1500_USD).. You are all set after that..
Don't commit to a long term lease. Thailand is very diverse. Travel all the places before settling on a town.
Bank accounts are easy too.. Just get one. You don't have to carry cash every where. Saves you lots of time and post traumatic stress after misplacing your cash at least a few times.
Its easy to move from town to town on a motorbike. With in 4 hr drive you will probably find a nice town to live. I recommend motorbiking across thailand.
Ultimately yes CM in the winters and Ao Nang in the summers is my choice of locations. I don't like to live any where near touristy areas. Any where 10 min drive out of those areas are pretty good decent places. I love Thailand.
Most importantly don't own stuff. Just live with as less as you can. This will help you keep mobile. Big back pack can be carried on any 125 cc for a whole day with no problems.
The only person you can rely on, is yourself.There are a lot of dreamers in Thailand. In hindsight for most people, their biggest regret is that they did not save enough.

I can’t remember laughing so much with one of your videos. Entertaining and informative. Thanks for the strategy for making the transition to Digital Nomad that much smoother and more productive. For $600 bucks a month I can live out of my car in the States or live in relative comfort in Thailand...so appealing.
I love skiing, bad Thailand don't have snow sports, mountains without a snow and ski resorts are not mountains, just hills, Thai culture is amazing, but unfortunately not 4 different seasons, I love living in Colorado with my Thai wife, she loves snow and skiing, hiking without sweat!!!

What I’m questioning most though is the visa situation. I’m not afraid of moving or living on 1 grand a month. I don’t know how I’ll get a visa to stay though. Visa runs every 90 days is not attractive to me. Maybe I’ll try the educational visa.
Glad i opened my bank account years ago on a tourist visa. So now when i move i already have phone, number, online banking and a few language classes. Thai say that I’m totally over prepared lol

Like your channel, just wondering maybe it would make a lot more sense for someone wishing to move out there to first develop their online income or business first at home before coming out, remove the risk. Older people with assets can get a stable investment income to support also, couple of years planning then make the move.
I like your outlook for a young guy, took me a lot longer to spot the deep flaws in our western world, crooked local govt taxes and general lowered living standards prevalent in nz Australia Canada us etc and getting worse, well done for taking direct action at a young age.

I have been considering moving. I am very curious to hear how your life was assimilating to a new culture. Obviously as someone who spent the majority of life in one country with friends and family there, how does it become easy to leave everything behind?

For me, my younger brother and 6 people I grew up with are dead, I've been vexed on social media because I'm surrounded by beta males, I've watched my city become a crime infested, politicaly correct liberal sewer, my mentor was hooking up with my gf (now ex gf) but when she got with him I myself was hooking up with her and he found out and stopped being friends, my parents are narcissists and my mother's a evil witch that's incapable of love, and I've had a crazy girl stalk me for two years and she sent me pics of her self harming, and now days Im trapped in an area I hate with people who constantly vex on me and my country's government is curropt and milking covid to the last drop I can't even see my hookup buddy because she's in California and I'm in Canada. When I can, I will leave and never look back. Ever.

J K I am not disrespecting you but just a little advice from an older person, if you find that all the people that surrounds you are all pile of shit, its not going to be better on the other side of the world, we asian people are very much will be on your face and if you are angry because of what happen to you in the past, you will be twice as angry and disappointed wherever you go. I was in the same boat with you before, parents and brothers used me as their ATM, friends that will only call if they needed something until I decided to stop and everyone stop talking to me, I got angry and disappointed but I forgive them all and I feel more happier about it and I find wherever I go that people seems to be more nicer and helpful towards me for no reason. Hope you will eventually find that its start with you and wherever you are.

I agree think of your specialty and skill sets you are trying to market and what products or services you can sell and then focus on that. You will drive yourself crazy with information overload if you spread yourself too thin. I say develop a structured project plan with goals and time frames around what you want to achieve. Like me I am a counsellor, so I am just find tuning my skills as a online telephone and video mental health clinician. There is so much white noise out there that get derail your focus. In regards to fear of it not working I say "A life lived in fear is a life half lived". Take a chance and live your life. I am 47 but I am already making the plans and structure within my own project plan to try and get there by end of 2021 once I sort out the rest of the shit I have to in Australia. Have a goal and work towards it

nice one Brett great advice once again i agree with it all,Iv'e already made plans to do what you have said like the bank account buying a scooter ect makes perfect sense to me i'm also going to pay my rent six months in advance hopefully get a good deal and not have that worry of not having a place to live...

So I think Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Korat, Khon Kaen, Kanchanaburi, Krabi, Trang, Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Chonburi would be good choices.

What about snakes, spiders and bugs? How do you deal?
In 7 years, I've only seen one dead snake on the highway. I see less spiders here than I saw in England and they are nowhere near as scary looking as the British house spiders. Mosquitos are a pain in the arse but I deal with them by installing blue lights and traps, works pretty good 😁
Is this near the Chiangmai zoo. I used to live in Chiangmai back in 2004 and 2005. I spend alot of time in the mountains on top of Doi Suthep templel hill . Its a great place to be and there is a camping place too.
I dont hear any waste of time here. Sometimes you need to see people that inspires you to not be like them.

Chiang Mai is too far from everywhere. You should have done a month in Kanchanaburi. No beach but has rivers and lakes and waterfalls as well as mountains. You can even visit a fake beach on the side of a lake. Bangkok only two hours and 100Bht away or you could take a boat down the River Kwai to Hua Hin and the Gulf of Thailand.
Agree with you about all the self-help books. Vast majority of those authors are just grifters (they who can, do. They who can’t do, teach). Such books are worth as much as a set of weights, which do nothing but sit in the corner of your bedroom. No good buying tools you’re never gonna actually use. Learn to do something rather than how somebody else did something.

Man its why i love your channel. Too many jokers in Chiang Mai "pretending" to live the digital nomad dream, exhausting their funds until they have no money.
Key piece of advice from me personally. Go to Chiang Mai AFTER you've started a successful online business, don't actually go there to build a business, it makes no sense whatsoever.
I disagree. It's hard to almost impossible to start an online business for most people who work a 9-5 in the west. They have to do this to pay bills. When you move to Thailand this enormous barrier goes away because of the lower cost of living.
@@brett_dev Depends where you live Brett, I was paying £400 a month all bills included in the Midlands at one point for a 1 bed flat, not too shabby. Also, why is it impossible? I used to get back from my 9-5, then work until like 2am in order to start a digital products business, this was before "hustle culture" really kicked off.
PS - I only say this because when i was in CM i saw people burn out / get depressed / go back home after their business failed, when in retrospect, the stress they would endure back in the west building the business would be fundamentally worth it, as when they finally did get to CM and live out their dream, they could relax & enjoy it.
Most people don't get back from a 9-5 and want to work until 2am
@@brett_dev Exactly, the same type of people that would head to Chiang Mai to start their business, take a few photos by waterfalls or some of the cool coffee shops, crash and burn and head back to the UK with their tails between their legs.
Just saying, I saw it a lot personally and its bad to see it happen. Ok, being depressed in the UK is bad, but we have shit weather, higher expenses etc so it sort of blends, but being depressed out in chiang mai, thats messed up.

I'd you're going to move every few months, you really need to pack very little and accumulate nothing...does everything you own fit in a backpack? Or did you hire a van for each move? I'd like to move around more too but it can be disruptive to resettle...
You have to move to furnished places that have their own furniture, TV, fridge etc .. you only need to have a laptop and some clothes.
@@zaranj1747 yes, but if you're staying for years, how realistic is it that's all you have? I stay for 3 months and start accumulating ..air purifier, office chair, cookware, etc. So I'm wondering how much stuff Brett accumulates and whether it becomes a hindrance to moving around...
Hi brett, would you say you meant mainly Thai or westerners/people travelling during your first few months?
I mainly met westerners, it's hard to meet Thai's outside of meeting bar girls because Thai's don't speak very good English. If you want to have Thai friends you really are going to have to learn good Thai.

@@brett_dev i would disagree somewhat... If you hang out at international social meetups you will meet only thais who can speak english. Of course, your average young thai is not gonna speak great english but plenty of people do speak basic english and theres a lot of cmu students. So, it depends where you hang out imo.

All you need to survive...is to not get eaten by a snake. HAHAHA! Welcome to my shoes! Was paranoid in Bangkok reading all the Thaiger stories of giant pythons in trees, cobras coming up through the toilet, and pit vipers in the parking garages of shopping malls. Now, in Lopburi, I'm paranoid about the damn house gecko trying to get into my apartment as I'm yelling at it, "There's no damn bugs in here to eat! Get lost!" Man, the only reptiles I like are turtles. The majority of them are slow moving, they don't have creepy scales/colors that make your skin crawl, and they're relatively friendly (besides the snapping turtles). Everyone I talk to tells me I should be more concerned about the damn monkeys and soi dogs. The monkeys are in a small part of town, and the dogs are all bark. I've heard the traffic in Thailand is dangerous, but, so far, I think it all depends on how you approach the subject of traffic. You have to be patient and cautious. As long as you're patient and cautious, I don't think you'll have problems in Thailand regarding traffic.
Point 3 was almost verbatim my experience.
The only thing I would add is that you should really get your motorcycle license in your own country before travelling to Thailand. Then bring your license and international drivers permit and get a Thai driving license (convert your home country license rather than take tests etc in Thailand). Do not ride a big motorcycle without the correct license because one accident without it can cost you so much money that you will have to return home.
Would be way faster to just get your Thai license if you don't have one in your home country.
@@brett_dev Unless they've changed it in recent years, it's very difficult to pass the written test in TH (assuming you don't speak good Thai). Most Farangs fail as the english study pack doesn't cover all the questions... Or at least it certainly didn't, and can't retake the test for a few months. Maybe it's changed. Although it's certainly much cheaper in TH.

@bilsbkk An accident may have changed your view on that. Congratulations for not having one.
@bilsbkk As you say, any accident is the Farang fault, but it'll cost you more if you don't have the correct (Foreign or Thai) license. Especially if it's a very serious accident and ends up in the courts.
Can Americans get Thai bank accounts these days? A lot of tax evasion regulations in the last 10 years have made it a lot harder for US expats.
