I have friends who worked on a massive suspension bridge, the largest in the world at the time. They dragged it out years longer than planned, on purpose, and it went tens of millions over budget. All completely purposeful. Every job they'd make as expensive as possible and run it as long over tone as possible. Because why would you ever want the infinite money to stop?! They redirected the money to friends as often as possible too. Need some electric cable? Buy it off a builders merchant operated by your friend who just so happens to charge 5x the going rate because "it's the best cable" etc. All backhanders and inside deals. Another example would be this - Recently two roads near to where I lived were resurfaced. The council road was the main road through town. Three weeks of night shifts and they managed to resurface less than half a kilometer. Three weeks! The other road is a service road for an oil refinery. Over a mile long, owned by the refinery. It was fully resurfaced *OVERNIGHT!* Literally over a single night. Incentives matter.

Back in the summer a guy was flying a drone,think it was a mini 2,over Hilsea creek filming a historic train coming over the railway bridge and it overheated and fell into the water.

HS2 is there to increase capacity, they literally cannot run any more trains per hour on the west coast mainline. HS2 is supposed to alleviate the congestion, allow more freight trains to help the road network etc. The points about the damage/costs are very valid, but it makes more sense if you look why HS2 is actually being built.
The whole contract has been plagued by pitifully low productivity, questionable cost increases, unexplained budget over runs and exorbitant consultants fees for pointless studies and research. The real insult is that now the project has been cut all the properties that were compulsorily purchased are being offered for sale at a huge mark up. Their former owners have no recourse as HS2 claims it paid them the (depressed) market price.
