idk what Neru intended, but my interpretation of this song is that it's about depression (having no motivation, ambition, energy, having low self-esteem etc.) and covering it up with a happy, colorful theme, a catchy and upbeat tune, and memes/jokes. which is what most people with depression, myself included, often do as a coping mechanism
I would agree, i'd say it has a hint of critizism of this rather than support but i'd definaltely say that describes it best. Most of Neru's songs have simillar themes so does not surprise me.

There isn't really too much to interpret here. Neru just does a perfect job portraying a as specific "slacker/futureless/NEET" subculture unique to Japan.
People like this will say things like "I can do it if I try; I haven't used my full strength yet" etc., until reality kicks in, they lose hope, and they just say "screw it, whatever."

This is supposed to be a satire of that phenomenon. They keep saying whatever but at the end they are shown dead after never improving like they said they would. Also the sun rolls their eyes when they say "feel bad for me" after posting this very memey despair. This is more obvious in "Let's drop dead." They literally keep asking for affirmation about their uselessness (through memey "relatable" content) rather than doing anything to fix themselves. The song concludes if they're not going to even try, they might as well drop dead.

I think so, too. To me, the people in the song seem to be depressed, which causes them to not do anything all day and not aspire to do anything. The song is critiquing those around them who just call them lazy and insult them, without actually taking the time to get to know them or realize that they aren't just "lazy". Depression isn't just something you can decide not to have, it's a mental health disorder that should be treated as such. Obviously, that doesn't mean taking away all responsibility from the person, but it does mean that it's different for those struggling with Depression to those who are just lazy. That's just my interpretation anyway.
I believe different people view songs in different ways despite the actual meaning that the creator of the song wanted it to be.

i know this is probably supposed to be critical of "them dang youths" and all that
but at first glance, I kinda interpreted as... someone who is clearly mentally ill and suffering, but the people around them don't realize it so they simply shove them into the box of being "lazy and incompetent" on purpose because it's easier to understand and gives them a reason to ignore the person struggling. I don't know if the person suffering realizes themself as mentally ill and is kinda poking fun at the others via this song, or if they just gave in to peoples perceptions of them as "scum" and is letting themself rot away.
I'm probably just projecting tho, I know how shitty it is to be labeled as "lazy and stupid" when you're really trying your best :P

It's not though. Not at all. Neru is a kid. He was 17 when he started, and a college student as of this album's release. It was never meant to be critical, none of his music is.

I looked back to this song during quarantine and it’s probably the vocaloid song I relate to the most and I’d like to share my thoughts on it: this song may or may not be describing a depressed behavior, but more than that, it’s highlighting the reoccurrence of procrastination, which results in cynicism (which is the album’s name). Cynicism was inaugurated in Greece and it wasn’t a “mainstream” philosophy at the time, and its best representative was a beggar who slept in a barrel of wine with dogs. What cynicism basically convey is that one doesn’t care about morals and what society think about them, so they just live with what make themselves comfortable despite others interference. Connecting cynicism to procrastination, I created a logic chain: the teenager (usually) such as the one portrayed by the song, is an individual that is often drowned with expectations by others, like good grades, a degree, etcetera. Many teenagers get so overwhelmed by these expectations they start to procrastinate and ignore responsibilities, and as much as they try, they are trapped to a procrastinator life. Because of that, the teenager is often criticized by their peers and family because of a problem they cannot solve (procrastination), so they simply become cynical and live life as lazily as possible, complaining about what they could’ve done but didn’t, because procrastination is not their problem and they don’t care about what’s gonna happen. TL;DR: The song is about demotivation, procrastination and cynical behavior
another thing I’d like to make note of about this song is the part where it says “I’ll write a 140 words poem when I’m bombarded by suicidal thoughts”. As something I have personally experienced many times, a lot of cynical, procrastinating students can never do what they’re expected to do unless when they’re given a deadline, and when they actually engage in the said responsibility, they start to have suicidal/depressive that translate guilt and regret, such as “I am such a lazy ass, why didn’t I do this before?”, “I can never reach my dreams” or “why can’t I be like (other person)?”

it's kinda weird because I'm able to relate to this song in a way I have no idea how to explain-
Because I imagine this song as like..you're not necessarily a sad individual (hence the funky, happy beat) but you still have sad thoughts and you lowkey hate the way you act, however you either struggle with procrastination or just simply have no determination to change or get better. You want to; but you just feel like you can't. So, you kinda just screw around and do what you like instead of the work, as a way of distracting yourself; not just from that work that you have no determination to do, but also from those thoughts that follow it, making you feel undeniably guilty about it.
.... Then again that might just be my interpretation because it feels like a summary of my life situation, who knows :V
