    I run 29x2.35 tyres on my drop bar 29er. Bigger tyres work very well on road and off road. Ideal for someone who hits the trails after a road ride to get there.

      C. Medina I think they look bangin too! I’ve been doing mixed terrain on them and it’s been fine. As you’d expect, they aren’t all that fast on pavement, and I expect pavement to wear down the tread faster. But I don’t want to be switching tires between my rides, especially when going tubeless

  • @aisakup
    @aisakup 4 роки тому +3

    Interesting. I have a frame that looks like it could be a sibling and its max tire rating is a 650b x 2.2inch or a 700c x 45. A 650b mtb tire is awesome on a gravel bike and will solve the rub issues you experienced as well as give you clearance in the case you encounter mud. A slightly slicker tire with less knobs like the Terreno Dry 29" might also solve the problem.

    • @cyclistpete
      @cyclistpete  4 роки тому +1

      I'm interested in trying 650b in the future, just need a set of wheels, so I thought I'd try this out first. But for the tire rub issue, I just ordered the G One Ultrabite 2.0, but thanks for the Terreno Dry suggestion. I'll keep that in mind as another alternative.

I sold the frame because I wanted to run wider mtb tires but with the stradas the bombtrack standover height was already uncomfortable, I am 5 6". These look great on the bike! I recently picked up the Vittoria Terreno G2.0 29x2.1s, which have less pronounced center tread with shoulder knobs. I was really hoping to like them, but to be honest, I found them really slow on pavement.
    I'm wondering how much of that might be ameliorated by running tubeless. But I have such tire commitment issues that I can't bring myself to put the effort of going tubeless! haha.
    Of course the main problem is that I'm riding these on pavement, and not on gravel! Need to just get out there out of Seattle.

    • @cyclistpete
      @cyclistpete  3 роки тому

      Bad news. Its not looking good for you Jon.. haha I don't think tubeless will make any difference on smooth pavement. Knobby and softer tires will just have more resistance and roll slower than others that are smoother and harder. Yes, tubeless is a pain to set up, but it is pretty nice overall, a little saved weight, smoother riding on rough roads and some extra flat protection. If you have a little extra moola to burn, what I'd done is bought a cheap pair of road wheels and fitted road tires on those. Then just switch them depending on the day. the cassette and rotors are easy to swap too, searching around i'm sure you can find something used pretty cheap.

I currently have the Bontrager GR2 Team Issue Gravel Tire (700c 40mm) - but get flats all the time (even when i ride on the normal street - 1 week riding - flat - 4 flats on the back tire, 1 flat on the front tire in the last 4 weeks). I got the Tannus Armour Tire Inserts - but that doesnt fix the flat problem. Can you recomment me another gravel tire? which one has the best quality and prevents flats Vittoria, Continental or WTB or something else? My terrain: Road and also some Offroad (forrest with gravel and fine sand). I would say 60% road, 40% offroad.

    • @cyclistpete
      @cyclistpete  3 роки тому

      Hey Gerald. Sorry to hear about your problem with all the flats, getting flats is really annoying. You might want to reach out to a bike shop or to the Redit bike wrench group to see if they have some more ideas. But from what it sounds like to me, I doesn't sound like a tire issue if your flats are that frequent. Here are some ideas: Are you using some good rim tape? Have you done a thorough check of the tires to make sure that there isn't something that is stuck in the rubber of the tire? I was having frequent flats for a few days and eventually found a tiny, tiny piece of hidden metal that had been popping my tubes. It could be a good idea to take out the tubes and really clean and examine the inside of the wheels for anything abnormal. What tire pressure are you using? If it is too low that could lead to getting more pinch flats. Going tubeless with those might be a good fix for you also. Being extra careful riding could also be helpful for avoiding flats, always slowing down or avoiding bigger cracks and potholes and avoiding bigger rocks or debris in the road. Hope this is helpful and you get the problem solved soon!

    Hi there cyclist pete. Just want to ask how is the mezcal tire running in the pavement or asphalt do you think it roll very fast in the pavement or asphalt compare to other tire? Please answer thanks!

      Eduard Lopez hey Edward, I’d say it runs similar to other tires on pavement. I wouldn’t say it is particularly fast on pavement, but not noticeably slow either.

    How are they in mud and snow?

    • @cyclistpete
      @cyclistpete  Рік тому

      They are good in a bit of mud, and they can get through small patches of snow. They are meant for harder packed surfaces, so although they are fine, a tire with a lot heavier tread and even wider would probably work better for those.

    Hi. I was wondering how much is the max tyre clearence for 29' wheel specified by bombtrack?

    • @cyclistpete
      @cyclistpete  Рік тому +1

      45c. These tires measured out to 51mm I think, and they rubbed a little bit. I had used some tape to protect the frame, so it wasn’t being damaged, but i eventually decided to go a little smaller.

      @@martinjager2136 yeah, it’s really hard to tell until you test them. I’m sure the 650b’s would fit fine. But I think the 2.1” 700c is going to be pretty close for your bike
