I have the 65 and love it, my next one was supposed to be the 43 but have seen a few 50s for good prices sooo the 43 is on pause for now lol.

And the 43 requires external viewfinder, that’s a plus for the 50

I read some fascinating comments by Sandy King concerning the resolution of Mamiya 7 lenses vs 4x5 lenses and being comparable even after you factor in the enlargement factor of 120 film and the corresponding LPMM degradation . Unfortunately, these lenses command ridiculously high resale prices. Thanks for doing these videos!

Sizing a lens properly for the format it covers is so important - and so often forgotten. It wouldn't surprise me if the Mamiya 7 lenses are as sharp or sharper than 4x5 lenses even with the enlargement factor, as they didn't have to worry about movements or getting close to the edge of the image circle. The Mamiya 6 lenses I have are incredibly sharp as well.

Would be interesting to see you shoot that last roll of hie/aerochrome one day, just remember the filter for it. There's still infra-red monochrome film out there if you're that way inclined.

Forgot about the infra-red BW film. And it would be great to put through a roll of aero chrome - no idea where my filter is, though...

@@UnderexposedwithAlastairBird aerochrome needs either a yellow or an orange; never had any myself to shoot so can’t remember which. It’s the monochrome that needs a 700nm opaque to usual light one.

Interesting, I only have the 80/4 mm so far, which I really like. i have been considering getting the 50mm for wider stuff. i am still getting used to my Mamiya, 7 forced myself to shoot it a lot during a recent holiday, looking forward to seeing my scans. Depending on those i will decide whether to leave my Hasselblad at home for my upcoming Japan trip. The FE50, as nice as it is, is just unbearable heavy specially for travelling.

That is the problem with the Hasselblad gear. It's not light. Especially those f2.8 FE lenses - both the 150 and the 50 are amazing but so much larger than the f4 equivalents.

I just scanned some frames of Ektar shot with this 50mm with my DSLR scanning setup. Ended up with 10200x8160 scans and to my surprise every pixel has important information! Any resizing meant a downgrade in the visible detail
