Monica is spot on about people losing themselves to please the industry you're in. Don't lose yourself, they either take you as you are or F them! Accolades wise Monica maybe under appreciated, but Musically she's always more than not understood her fan base and how to deliver not only in just R&B, but even translating some of those to pop charting crossover sounds. Great catalogue of music. Miss Thang, TBIM, After The Storm and Still Standing are my favourite albums. The Makings Of Me album I'm now appreciating more and more when I listen to it. Few classics made on there! ❤️
If nothing else, I'm glad Monica is getting this kind of exposure. The world needs more of her. A true example of someone who remained true to who she was. Sidenote:They say never trust what anyone says in an interview when they wear sunglasses.
I’ve been saying this! I’ll never understand it because Monica is R&b royalty! Got hits under her belt!! You cant go to a wedding and not hear “for you I will” it “Angel of mine”. lol Legends before her era has listed her as one of the future greats such as Mary, Deniece Williams, Smokey Robinson, and of course the mother of all mothers, Whitney Houston mentored her! Like coke Monica has a resume and has worked with the best of the best. Although Aaliyah and Brandy reached different masses, yet Monica always charted higher than them both and has more “#1 hits”. Monica may not got all the accolades but she definitely has respect and maintained her integrity. That’s an accomplishment within itself. Monica definitely deserves more recognition for her efforts and contribution to R&b music.
I'm dissapointed they didn't really go deep into the statements Monica made. Instead, they make silly remarks about things that are not even of substance. Monica need her own show. So many things she said that could've been savored. Also, everytime she made a statement they didn't expand or ask much after that. It was like they wanted to cut her off. This was terrible. Some man are intimidated by strong woman so that's what it could've been. Smh
i think that’s actually just how they tend to run the show unfortunately it always kinda feels a little rushed like they’re trying not to go over a certain time limit but honestly i’d prefer closer to an hour i think it’d yield more organic/ meaningful conversations
some constructive criticism from someone who’s been watching since the hbo days, the episodes need to be longer bc the conversations are not that great due to how short it is & it always feels rushed, i also miss the old set up where the name “the shop” made sense/ was relevant, lastly i would love a female host in the mix, for some reason i’ve never been a huge fan of either host & they don’t ask that great of questions
Please find better hosts for this show. Couldn’t make it to the end because the questions are starting to feel redundant. Same old questions, Mav drops random knowledge “it’s called strategy” …And it’s too short to get deep into guests responses. -Invite fewer guests - Ask better and personal questions - Let the guests speak and open up This used to be my favourite podcast, but I can’t even get through 1 ep now. Hopefully they improve.
As a Toronto original we've like the underdog to major American cities as we're the only real place in Canada that you experience the total Canada Experience in one place. Always have been wanting to go to Atlanta, New Orleans and Chicago for the people interaction. Detroit you're the best in my book so far. Where you going next?
She said she hasn't won many awards. Almost 30 years since she came out in 1995 . She is saying she doesn't get recognized for most of her best albums over the time span.
Alayna don’t have identity far as dressing but the money flow& ownerships💯💯 Ain’t nobody copying they style lol they mix there shit with New York ,Philly & La
oh my heavens , how did the lady that did the intro get the job ? all the talent in Atlanta , they could've gotten a person with a background in journalism/broadcasting (who would've presumably been more well-spoken and fluid) .. okay , lemme watch the interview panel ; that threw me off
Monica’s cool but the industry didn’t push her like they couldn’t bc she wanted to keep that whole hood girl mentality in professional spaces! Keeping it “real” cost her a lot! Fighting and etc was what she did and it cost her!
mmm.. interesting perspective.. a bit of conforming , or making yourself palatable to certain entities , seems to be necessary to reach certain levels in the entertainment business (& other professional industries as well)
I like monica and beyonce. Both from two different cities so i dont know about people hating on or not giving flowers to Atlanta culture. Not everybody feels atlanta taste 💗

She actually has talent and doesn’t have to resort to wild antics like most people who don’t have such talent.
Monica is a whole Icon ouchea

I’m Grady baby!
Monica has won some awards. Why is she saying she hasnt won any?
She said she hasn't won many awards. Almost 30 years since she came out in 1995 . She is saying she doesn't get recognized for most of her best albums over the time span.
I miss the days of artist development.

Trend setters for the south--not up north.
Caaaaap! All over.
Moms are NOT underrated, Black father's are underrated. That's one of the biggest disconnects as black people we have. That narrative sucks

Sorry the only star I see I'd monica
