Been watching for a while, and I feel like I finally need to express that I love this well made, educational, entertaining channel. Keep doing what you're doing dude.
I was actually just thinking of miking my monitors to try to maintain a “pure” analogue recording like I was recording a live instrument in a studio so I’m glad to see it actually works. I’ve also used a few guitar pedals with a Roland Alpha Juno in the past to get nasty bass lines.
So to be clear, you did not do the reamp box method, but just capture the sound from your monitors with a dynamic mic ( or maybe even condenser) correct? Thanks
Loved the Stone Roses beat you did on the drums! Haven’t heard that song in ages, but it immediately clicked with me as I Am the Ressurection, lol. Amazing taste and amazing channel, I’ve gotten so many great recording ideas from you. You definitely make me want to dig out my old Tascam 😎
Watching this is pure fun, I love playing with "toys" just like you, it's opening the space of creativity, it can be said without limits... trying to make groovy bass line using the software toms and kick drums with a guitar pedals chain :) really crazy and funky!
BRILLIANT video man ... was just thinking about this and stumbled across this vid. I can deffo see me getting interesting results as someone that can't have a real drum kit in my house. Awesome man gonna be hours of fun ...
@@MadeOnTape don’t suppose you’d do a video on running these sounds back through a 4 track for more tape goodness? If that’s even possible … but thanks man deffo one of my new favourite channels on UA-cam. Keep it up dude
@@RiperSnifle this was the only video, but i was running everything through the TASCAM preamps if that wasn’t clear. If you wanna hear these parts on tape, this was the result and thanks so much! ua-cam.com/video/al1qD7n5NJY/v-deo.htmlsi=mBKE9eXnkZwUMqgN
@@MadeOnTapeI’m confused about the signal chain, how would that work with my setup? I have an audient ID4, a re amp box and and a tascam cassette recorder. So unplug my outputs from my speakers and plug in the re amp box and that into the input of an amp? How does the tape machine get involved? And if I wanted to send digital tracks recorded in a DAW, to tape, I’d unplug my speaker outputs again and plug my interface into the inputs of the cassette recorder? How would I get the tape recorded signal back into my DAW? Sorry I’m fairly new to this and I find it confusing haha!
the amp cut a lot of low freqs, i suppose it's cuz its a guitar amp, maybe using a keyboard amp or a bass amp might get you different freq response, or using monitors, miking the speakers from your phone!! there's a lot to play with!
without listening back I'm sure you're correct, and I was likely anticipating more bottom end in other aspects of the mix. As a bassist, I go heavy with the drums and bass, and I do have a tendency to carve out a little too much low end in guitars and keys, tho. Appreciate the comment!
If you mic the amp from farther away you can really get some sweet vibes, or even doing a room sound mid side and also the direct in sound... can also get some really great tones!! Sweet video! Love the carbon copy, not so much the delixe version (repeats are too quiet)... My band created an intense album using similar techniques like in this video as well as mostly front end analog recording.... re-amping is so fun.... i like using bassy synth sounds through bass amps, like ampeg....
Dude, as always, interesting video! I have a silly question (i feel is silly)... If i record my acoustic guitar and maybe a drumkit to my PC using a Scarlett Interface and then, i record the output of my PC with a TASCAM... I'd get a kind of vintage or lofi sound??? My english is not that good, sorry Greetings
If'n you can't make too much noise, and/or don't have a lot of space, and are on a budget, there are a lot of possibilities in getting a BOSS BR-80. Used ones keep popping up, and can be had for around $100-150. I know, it's a digital-ass ampsim, but you also get an 8-track recorder (also digital, but still), and an entry-level audio interface that can run hardware ASIO, plus a modest but useful FX chain to explore with. 🤔 I'm sure there are alternatives to the BR-80. It just happens to the one I have experience with. Hope that is useful to someone.
i was channeling some Radiohead vibes, but it was totally improvised. If I played a tune it was not intentional 😂 thank you for watching and listening!
I use my 8 track, my pedals I use the pre's even my audient has an analogue jfet chip/preamp. What is funny if you paid for a few plugins...you could get a tascam? At one stage there was a 688 emulator for 250 bucks! throw in some transformers 50...preamps and tube plugins, reverbs delays etc...it's a lot compared to...just having the gear. I still use plugins, kush transformers, three different kush compressors mainly, a klanghelm I use occasionally in my aux's and waves BB Tubes are about all I want or need, with a convolution reverb and a delay I'm set up to run sound out of my audient into the Tascam and back out into the audient. I can option the Line Out Aux out or Monitor out or the "group outs" as well "Tape Outs" It's kinda options for me. But the sound first...tweaked with hardware, my pedals and tape is like an artists paint pallet, metaphorically, that I prefer to use before I go back..."in the box" Especially the tactile experience of fine tuning the sound as you did with the Tube Screamer! Great to see you creating more for us!!
love those Kush transformers. keeping the artists analogy it’s all different mediums and palettes. I just hate seeing people feel limited if they haven’t tried the low hanging fruit of their home studio set up. thanks for watching Harris!
@@MadeOnTape Always a pleasure, thank you. Nice KB skills and Finger Drums btw. here's an old joke for you relative to your summary/conclusion. "If I had this plugin five years ago? I'd be a billionaire by now"
Your "analog" example in the beginning actually sounded overly digital. Too much brightness and very digital and static sounding distortion. That's not the way!
@@MadeOnTape Well, one thing that stands out about analog / vintage sound for me: much less high-frequency content. The recording devices and mediums used back in the days naturally attenuated the high end. Vintage guitar cabs also sounded different from the one you use. I guess your modern Fender Amp uses digital DSP algos, not actual tubes and electromechanical circuits? Another thing are natural inconsistencies in pitch, volume etc. and noise, for example: a bit of Wow and Flutter due to the electromechanical nature of tape machines / vinyl recording and playback.

Even if you don’t have an amp you can use computer speakers. And if you don’t have any speakers you can use an amp sim.

which reamp would you recommend for a focusrite scarlett 2i2?
