      @@dongarciaa no,the fuel pump is damaged and I have to replace it 😭😭 & it might take 15 - 20 days,I really don't know how the experience with Royal Enfield store executives and manager's at your country but here in INDIA they are worst I have experienced no proper response & even they don't know the product of swingarm #Bobbins for #Continental GT 😂😂🤦🏻‍♂️

    Thank you very much. My Interceptor wouldn't start and it was the relay. You saved me a ton of time and expense hauling the bike to the dealer. AWESOME!

    Yeah. I'm having this issue. I was supposed to have a free 6mile tow from the Roadside "Assistance". It's a good thing I wasn't out in the desert somewhere waiting for that because that was a whole day "blown" waiting for two different tow operators who never showed. The next day I paid a reliable operator $150 for a 6mile tow. They got there within the eta and sent someone who was huge and could just walk my Big Mistake up the extended ramp like he was walking a bicycle up there. It got to the dealership fine in a timely fashion.
    That left my 68yr-old butt doing the 6mile trudge in triple-digit heat to go pick it up. They diagnosed and "fiixed" it and it ran great--for about 2wks. Now it's not firing-up the fuel pump again on start-up. I have to sit there cycling the kill switch over and over sitting there in some hot obnoxious parking lot where the road noise from the nearby "feeder street" precludes my being able to even hear the fuel pump. I think yesterday in a 3stop shopping foray I had to cycle the kill switch about 20 times. I also got fuel pump cut-outs twice on the road---fortunately places where I could pull over and play kill-switch roulette safely.
    This is outrageous! Blowing a whole day waiting for unreliable tow operators to provide my free tow to the shop who never showed ( the thing finally never would start at all--fortunately after I at least made it home.
    The three-yr miles-unlimited warranty and inclusion of roadside "assistance" was a big part of what encouraged me to buy something to ride while taking my time doing some much-needed TLC on my ancient Honda CX. Even with serious charging-system issues ( I put an LED utility lamp under the headlamp "basket" and could make my usual weekly trip to do a public outreach volunteer gig I do and get there on one battery charge and charge it there and make it home on another charge. I figured with a brand-new 2022 Enfield and all that eye-wash about being the oldest in-continuous-production motorcycle brand and especially building bikes mostly for a humid hot climate, they ought to be able to make something at-least reliable. Don't you believe it.
    The sad thing is when it's working it's a really nice riding bike. How many people buying these things are going to find out they have a 3yr warranty on something that's going to be out-of-service in the shop correcting extremely poor design decisions for maybe a first 2yrs and 10 months of actual functional use?
    This isn't only a problem with this brand either. I tried a used HD Xg half-liter. It still had 2months on the warranty when I got it. It too was less dependable than the ancient Honda even with some really serious issues making the Honda pretty "iffy" to ride ( the pulser ignition "spark advance" stopped retarding the spark when it should. I still don't fully understand that thing but apparently at low RPM it chops off one end of a broad pulse from a totally-separate magneto pulse and at higher RPM chops off the other end of the broad magneto-pulse. and it's really hard to get-at without removing the engine but at least it was still working transportation! ). So what was the big problem with the Xg? Cheesy push-on connectors in the relay block into-which the relays plugged. They had to be re-formed on a monthly-basis. Because they were the cheapest thin pig-iron construction instead of thick quality metal. A month of carefully-recreated Harley-esque vibration would loosen 'em right up. They had to be squashed tight again to make tight contact on a monthly basis and I suffered a lot of "down time" and bad experiences until I got that figured-out. If I hadn't run it into the back of a pickup truck one cold night I was going to solder all the relays on the wires. But that bike sucked in numerous other ways too. Especially everything you bought for it costing 2X what it ought to cost.
    I wouldn't be surprised if I dug into he plug-in socket for that Enfield relay and found push-on connectors that look exactly like the ones on the HD and quite-possibly are off the same assembly-line sourced from the same country of origin. That might really be the problem, not "too much dialectric grease". If the push-on connector that contacts the lugs on the relay were made of quality material that keeps it's grip it's going to scrape the grease off and get metal2metal contact and keep it. Of course if I hard-wired the relays to the wires that would void my wonderful 3yrs miles-unlimited warranty.
    If you think you're going to strike-out on your brand-new Enfield across Death Valley and have a break-down and Roadside "Assistance" is going to get to you B4 the buzzards are picking your bones clean just make sure that life-insurance premium got paid...
    Watch some of the more-recent Simpsons re-runs. They've got what's going-on pretty-well "square-rooted". You can't buy a finished product anymore. Everything you buy should say Heathkit on it. I've got a pal who repairs his own ancient test-equipment ( because it's better ) and he told me that components he buys all have to be tested for the values marked on their "packages" and the one rarely has any relation to the other.
    Congratulations! You've all done all the things you were advised 2do to extend your lives 'til you lived to be rewarded for it by experiencing the curse of the times getting *seriously-"interesting".* WWJD? Probably swallow a cyanide capsule and then put the muzzle of a Walther under his chin and stroke a trigger.

    From America. Thank you for a full English spoken video. I have experienced Indian made videos with a title in English, then the guy speaks his native tongue. Frustrating. I am experiencing the same issue while riding. The bike stalls. I turn off the key, turn back on and start. sometimes it works and sometimes I have to repeat the process. Regardless, it is embarrassing in traffic when it happens. I am on a NEW bike. Mine is a '21 model Interceptor. I will be inspecting all my connections before the next ride. I have subscribed.

    Instant subscription. I just bought one of these (2022 model) with the same issue right after the delivery man brought it to my place and rode it without issue. Even put a fresh battery in and still was in the boat you're in. Will have the dealer check it out and see if they come up with the same diagnosis as you (I won't tell them what I suspect it is).     Awesome thanks Don, took a used one on a test ride this morning and exactly this happened. The dealer says it's relays and he's having a look. It's almost brand new still got over a year warranty left and only done 5k km. So hopefully should be all good.

    The same issue happened to me, i have the Interceptor, was stuck for 3 hours in a petrol pump, the fuel pump motor sound was not coming, I called Road side assistance and as soon as the tow truck arrived, the bike started perfectly. The next day I got the fuel pump checked and it was working fine, I guess the issue was this fuel pump relay... thanks brother, this was very useful information. Love from India.

    Thanks for the very helpful info Don, I'll bear that in mind for any problems in the future. Just a little tip.....a bit of silicone or red rubber grease on the rubber tabs and grommets which hold the side panels in place will make them much easier to remove next time. Your English is great by the way.

    Nice video! But FYI that grease is NOT meant to “enhance electrical conductivity” …
    It’s dielectric grease meant to block out moisture and prevent corrosion to retain conductivity 😊

I am considering a RE 650 Interceptor as my next bike but have been put off by all the reports of stalling and electrical problems. Your video has reassured me that even if this does occur it's an easy fix.       I've owned my Interceptor 650 four years now, and have never had a stalling problem or any electrical issues other than an ABS warning light that was coming and going for no reason. That was about 3 months ago, and I took it to a local RE dealer who recalibrated the ECU. I'd changed the battery just before that, and apparently the ECU has to be reset after you do this.

      ​@@slimturnpike I've heard the ABS issue is that the wire leading from the front sensor is tight and rubs on the gas tank and gets frayed over time from being pulled tight from the movement of the suspension.

    Hello from Latvia.
    We have winter time, and riding season will starts at march / april.
    To make cold days more interesting, I did some modifications with my 2020 Interceptor Mark Three. At november I changed rear light with number plate holder and rear + front blinkers by BAAK, motorcycle starts up normaly. The last two options was black LSL Sixties handle bar, it wasn't easy to change, and instalation of Hitchcocks USB with bracket. After connecting USB, it doesn't works on bike, there to was this white grease on connection (inside the headlamp). After I tried to start up the bike, and heard only sound of fuel pump, starter didn't any sounds 🤷‍♂️. Take off the baterry for recharge, will put on tomorrow and also will clean grease from relays. Hope that is the problem.
    P.s. Once I had problem with relay, wire in one of pins wasnt connected properly.

    Great job! No problems with my '20 Interceptor, it's been totally reliable.. my '18 Himmi would sometimes cut out but would always restart, or it wouldn't idle or wouldn't start at all within the first 6 mos of ownership. The dealer first replaced the ignition.. would still stall.. they then replaced the fuses.. it still stalled. Very frustrating. I was ready to get rid of it when they finally tracked the problem to a faulty FP relay. Been running beautifully ever since. Love my Himmi! 😍

      Yeah, i heard some Hima do need some relay replacement. That’s great that your dealer figured it out. Sometimes other dealers can’t 🙈

      @@dongarciaa It took 6 weeks and a return visit to finally fix the problem. I bought the Interceptor during the down time thinking I'd be selling the Himmi.. but Himmi's been totally reliable ever since, so I've changed my mind. 😍

    i think its crazy that they havent done a recall for this issue. the amount of people reporting this on forums is a LOT more than there should be. i know its an easy fix but royal enfield needs to get on top of this shit.

      I totally agree. Because if you don’t know what to look out for, you’d be pissed and confused why your brand new bike suddenly stalls.

      It's strange since I don't recall anyone from India having this issue here. I know that the tilt sensor breaks easily since it's made of plastic(shown in video at 3:32 top left) which causes stalling and is a common issue here. The dielectric problem is totally new. Maybe it's because of temperatures and RE is more than being careful with the dielectric grease amount. India being a tropical country and chennai(where the bikes are manufactured) is humid and salty causing corrosion to bare metal within days.

      @vicarious yes ive read a lot about that tilt sensor also. And i agree, they probably did that to prevent rust during shipping too. Since the old 500s used to have issue with rusted relays.

    The grease can be put directly onto the spade terminals as it helps to prevent corroding
    and water ingress. The spade terminal makes contact by the female connector cutting along
    the length of the male spade terminal to make the contact. Back in the day the spade terminal
    was the biggest cause of electrical problems on car electrics. Lights would go dim and fail to
    work at all due to high resistance in the spade terminals caused by corrosion. .

      @@dongarciaa After cleaning all relays the bike still did not start. I was listening to tell if the fuel pump was engaging and it was not. I switched out the bottom left relay for bottom right Bingo. started right up. So bad fuel pump relay. I am replacing all relays with Bosch relays.

    Hi Don, Ive had this issue on my bike since new, its reduced as its run in but still happens occasionally. Usually when blipping the throttle on downshifts it can stall of its own accord. The revs seem to fluctuate and go quite low which appears top be the issue and cause of the stalling. I had heard of the issues with the relay but had not seen how to clean them so thank you the informative post. I will check mine, clean and hopefully the stalling will stop.

      @@dongarciaa Royal Enfield, Hitchcock’s and others. It’s the military green RE Bullet. I bought it from a guy about 50 miles away after a hurricane. He needed the extra space for inventory. I had it delivered to a local mechanic because it wasn’t running and it needed 3 new tires. Finding the correct all terrain knobbies tires was difficult. The first stater we received was defective.That’s a two week turnaround each time. If you anticipate needing a few parts or tires soon, order them now because supplies aren’t getting better anytime soon. I considering flipping the Bullet and getting either the Himalayan or the Interceptor.
      Have you considered Hitchcock’s big bore kit…when she’s out of warranty? Good luck my friend.

      As I’ve used to build and race bikes in the past, I would go with a NO on the big bore kits as it would be easier to just buy a faster bike than to build from the ground up, which would then require a stronger brake, better suspension etc etc. 🥲 i just bought this bike to cruise around. 😁

    lol I was just saying, *Thanks* for the English. : } Toyota Celica's Fuel Pump doesn't "Prime", not suppose to, only turns on in Start. Still trying to get car running, Finally got 'Circuit open' relay out, now to Test it.

    I had a similar problem with the small starter relay (that actually drives a high current relay to supply current to the starter motor). Lots of grease on socket and pins. The problem was the starter motor would sometimes refuse to crank, I just unplugged that relay and then put it back again and then no more problems. Should the fault reoccur I'll clean the grease off.

    That grease is called "dielectric grease" or "tune-up grease" or "silicone grease". It's to prevent corrosion,
    but since it's non-conductive, it shouldn't be put directly on electrical contacts. You can Google any of
    those names, and you can find commentaries on how it should be used. I think RE just put too much of
    the stuff on the inside of connectors and not just on the outside to seal them.

      @@dongarciaa - I've gotten the grease on contacts, but it seems to be wiped away by sufficiently tight contacts so that it doesn't affect the conductivity between them. But if any of the contacts are loose, the grease could affect their electrical connection. Sometimes a pinch of an enclosing contact with needle nose pliers so that it grips its mating contact tighter will help because the grease gets wiped away when the contacts are pushed together. In any event, a very thin layer of dielectric grease is all that's needed to avert corrosion.

    I had this on my interceptor. The dealer tried several fixes but in the end they replaced the ECU under warranty and it never had the problem again.

    Good day Don, big fan and subscriber here , I'm currently having stalling issues with my continental gt650. The dealership already changed my sparkplugs(same with the stock) and airfilter from MW (also changed my mufflers to slipons from Ixg) but still having the same issue, as i have read most forums about it, my relays are still stock relays and most RE owners that had the same issue and went to clean the relays. I already cleaned them prior to the changes above but I think some of the relays are faulty, not sure tho, I'm planning on upgrading the relays and I want to ask you if you have any recommendations on where could i get them
    I really hope I could get this stalling issue fixed

    I have had my bike not cutting out but starving of fuel & loosing power for 4-5seconds then kick back in. The bike is still idling but no power.I too researched all possible problems before I even bought the bike & new about this & there being to much grease.The grease was that thick I removed 90% of it.One time it happened when I passing a car but it always would kick back in & found dropping it down a gear would work faster getting it the power on.I also ordered new upgraded relays from Hitchcocks in UK that are better quality.Sometimes the problem is grease & sometimes it can be a faulty relay.8pounds per upgraded relays is a small price to pay.I have only done 90km since cleaning grease & it still did it once but kicked back in within a second instead of 4-5 so grease seems to be problem so I will remove 8-9% of final 10% left.Before cleaning grease it did it 3 times in a 258km ride stopping 3 times & only did it occasionally before that.New upgraded relays should arrive late this week or next week.I think removing as much grease as possible will help.

      The new Hitchcocks Relays are twice the amps & bike started stronger idled better & fueling improved & no fueling issues or loss of power again.

      Hello. To answer your questions:
      1. Engine shutting off during deceleration. Sometimes decelerating to idle also kills it.
      2. Not sure about the model. I got it February 2020.
      3. It’s been almost 9 months now and I’ve never experienced the issue again after cleaning the Relays.

    Grerat informative video, thanks for doing this! I'm wondering if this grease dries out. I've encountered this on cars and just adding some vaseline to the connectors has re=energised the grease and they've started working again. I don't like the idea of no grease as I think corrosion will soon set in. I collected my new Interceptor 2 weeks ago and only just heard about this problem, so I'm hoping RE have resolved this issue by now.

    I've heard an owner say he found a female spade connector in the relay block was not seated properly and the male spade had pushed it back in the connection block. Worth checking for when cleaning excess grease off..

    Thanks for this. I will clean out mine even when it is brand new. Don't want to experience that stalling on the road, that's for sure. Would it help to wrap a plastic bag around the relays to try to minimise water from getting into their contacts?

    Look DG. I think your video was great BTW, considering what the current "common folly" on what this problem is. Your Englais is more comprehensible that that of a lot of the "born-here foreigners" I deal with all the time in Estados Unidos. I don't have a public you tube channel, you do. Could we all do a little experiment to see what this problem really is? Maybe improve the knowledge-base related to this obviously way-to-common problem and help a lot of buyers of these bikes have a better experience?
    If this is the same as the problem on my driveway-junkpile HD Xg "street" I could quickly solve my once-a-month ( like clockwork ) failure-to-fire problem quickly by pulling the particular relay and using a small flat-blade screwdriver to cold-set the female slip-on connectors for the lugs on the relays to return the requisite tightness-of-fit---for awhile--using the body of the fuse-block as "fulcrum" to squash those shoddy slip-on connectors tighter. There was no sealant-grease on those of either conductive or insulative nature. In fact if you're going to slather a lot of grease all over the socket with 5 different wires you definitely better use a non-conductive grease else you might get shorts between the various conductors through a conductive grease that would really give things "fits". maybe even damage driver finals from the ECU responsible for operating the relay. Or maybe keeping the pump pumping all the time instead of when there's "demand" ( I'm assuming there's not constant power on the pump all the time the bike's running but there could be and that would seem likely to promote premature pump failure if that's the way things are ). I got decent circuit diagrams in my owner's manual but some sort o f a "flow chart" might have been appreciated to go with it.
    But if everyone reading your channel on this topic would reform the slip-ons in the sockets and just leave all the grease right where they found it and the problem were resolved that would point to the real problem not being the grease as is currently surmised but the quality/nature of the slip-ons used in the socket. I wouldn't even be two surprised if there's some "standard" for these connectors in sockets that's modern-day industry-wide in engineering data in order to make consumer-replaceable relays more easily plugged in and pulled-out at some particular figure-of-merit for insertion/extraction force that's just not realistic. It would be better for the limp-wristed crowd to have to employ the judicious use of a small slip-joint pliers to insert a new relay or to have to pry it off the socket using a small flat-bladed screwdriver to extract the relay than to have marginal metal2metal contact force to provide reliable contact.
    The MIL light on my ancient Saturn SL started coming on years ago. Being the ultimate miser I decided to just try to pluck some of those low-hanging fruit B4 running to the shop to get my feather$ plucked by crafty chargeable-hrs jockeys first-thing with the stupid words of some jamoke reciting "you can't fix cars these-days with a screwdriver and a hammer anymore, you've got to have a master's degree in following if-then procedures in some expensive manual to fix cars these days so buy my employer's extended warranty coverage!" echoing in the recesses of my idiot-box programmed "mind".
    The easiest low-hanging fruit on that Saturn SL was the oxygen sensor connector on the exhaust header. I pulled the connector off, replaced it, pulled it off, replaced it several times and then observed the behavior of the MIL idiot light. It never came on again. Why? it wasn't detecting a flaw in the sensor. It was detecting corrosion or dirt buildup on the metal of the lugs on the O2 sensor. Operating the plug several times caused the push-ons to scrape through the build-up and get a bare-metal2bare-metal connection again. There. I probably just potentially saved a whole heap of people tons of crafty swindling who aren't afraid to at least try something on-their-own first before they go running to the local franchise swindle-shop of their choice. Too bad the owner's manuals never suggest that as your first course-of-action rather than "if MIL comes on and remains on immediately take out a second mortgage on your house and head to the shop with an authorized line of credit".
    I'm sorry. There are decent/honest service managers. If you ever find one stick by him. The one I found did me several dollar-saving "solids" he didn't have to do and it's my understanding he did it for a lot of folks.
    Judging by the number of people who showed-up for a fund-raising car show event held to raise some money for his surviving common-law wife after some uncivilized morons came to rob him one night and since nobody pays for service-work with cash and since the robber only got a $20 bill out of the register the lousy low-down-triflin' skin-bag of puss on two sticks ruining a perfectly good pair of shoes shot that wonderful little guy and ran out the back door to the waiting getaway-car and the stupid gangbanger-wannabe even dropped the $20 bill as he was making his getaway.
    So if you know of any people like A.R. who are good honest/decent service-managers who operate on the principle that "in order for evil to triumph it is necessary only that good men do nothing" ( first credited to some moldy old Greek ~4,000 yrs-ago: I forget which one ) then get together with some of the other customers and buy him a kevlar vest for Xmas. I wish *I* had...
    But don't you *ever* take it on faith from some celebrity who calls you his "homey" when he doesn't know you and wouldn't really spit you out if he saw you on-fire that "these days you can't fix anything on your vehicle" because in many-cases, you *can.* That big glob of fat behind and above your eyes isn't there just to keep flies from being able to fly in one ear and out the other. Put it to the use for-which Providence provided it and quit delegating your responsibility to yourselves to some imagined "savior". Because 9Xoutta10 they're your betrayer. We here in Estados Unidos are taught that lesson every 4yrs but it never seems to "sink in". Time for a paradigm shift. Don't just stand there picking your nose saying "a-yup yup yup!" *Do something!* And while you're at it don't manifest Einstein's succinct/elegant definition of insanity: repeating the same behavior in expectation of a different result.
    All the "wrong people" are doing something. Time to fight that fire with some counter-fire. Just be sure to measure-twice/cut-once.

    I don't like to fix something unless I know what is wrong with it. How can dielectric grease, even if there is way too much applied, cause any problem with the solenoid function? Was the white grease "conducting grease"? Or was the white grease so stiff that it was pushing the female connectors away from the solenoid blades? Or? Seems like Royal Enfield would grow tired of the high warranty costs for bike tows and mechanic time to clean grease, and just fix the issue at the factory by having the solenoid installer use different and/or less grease. None of this is making sense to me.

    Ive had the cutting out on de acceleration issue on my 2021 interceptor, re ordered my dealership to replace the throttle bodies but the issue persisted, re now want my bike send to them to remap the ecu, so i believe my dealership said they are so learned out to pass euro 5 emissions they are being starved of fuel. Mine was also popping and banging sometimes like it was miss firing and would often cut out on de acceleration when i approached a junction.

      Well most modern bikes (euro 5 especially) are tuned lean from the factory to pass the emission requirements… anyway, have you tried cleaning these relays?

      Relays have been checked but i dont have engine check light errors mine just shuts off while de accelerating or will splutter and sound like its miss firing but will immediately start straight back up so slightly different symptoms to yours.

      Mine doesn’t have check engine light error as well. Maybe you can try the sensors, ive read that those goes faulty as well.

      @@dongarciaa royal enfield know its the ecu that needs remapping as theyve asked for my dealership to return my bike so they can remap it, also out of 4 people i know that bought the 2021 model 3 took them back because of this cutting out issue. So it seems to be a big problem with the 2021 model.

      Yeah ive read too that the older models needed to have the ecu re tuned because it was cutting out at higher altitudes due to lack of air in the mixture. Hope they fix the problem soon

      If your fuel pump is fine, no need to replace it. Usually its just the relay. But if the pump, then yes, since its under warranty anyway
