You know Eli, I just realized that when you translate "Firewall" to Croatian (my mother tongue) it is "Sigurnosna stijena", when you translate that back to English it would mean"Security rock" :D
Eli thank you so much for the lectures. They have been really helpful in my job search. You make it so easy to understand the world of IT and it vast world of acronyms...
This vid was fun and informative to watch. And Eli's warrior antics, were so much more entertaining, than most AAA video games, and cheesy Hollywood movies. Good tut!👍
Vincenzo Pisano Good Day ! I am also share one security software for computer, Download FREE. here www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php
Vincenzo Pisano Such a creative video, I just loved the intro, you have given us a clear cut information on antivirus and firewall. thanks Eli. Am using Comodo Windows 8 Antivirus for PC protection. I happy with it as far as PC protection is concerned. antivirus.comodo.com/antivirus-for-windows-8/
There is nothing as the best in the market. Once you coined yourself as one through marketing, malware and virus makers will target the product. My experience is to rotate a few of them throughout an application life cycle. Or if you have sufficient client base, spread a few of your choice products to test the best outcomes.
Eli I scowered your videos for detailed firewall stuff, and it seems to be lacking.. I think a 2 part video one going over firewall basics (types of firewalls, where to implement them, kind of stuff) and a second video on specific concepts / how to implement the specific concepts ( port forwarding, SNAT, Web filtering, VPN configuration, as you would have to do on a network based firewall ie: Watchguard / sonicwall custom computer software to run off of an old computer.) I love your videos they really go the extra distance in describing in depth detail on how things function, and how to implement various things. I just believe that that kind of video would probably get a lot of hits :D I'm sure there is a lot you could teach me in this regard I look forward to hearing back from you.
You're the shit!!!!!! haha. My own private tutor. Completely comprehensive and it's a joy to and an honor every time i look to see what video to watch next. Thanks EliTCG
Excellent recommendations! I'd like to also add (because I've seen numerous clients do this) is to not install more than 1 antivirus or 1 firewall. Bad things happen! LOL Don't mistake that for anti-malware or anti-spyware. 2 well known versions are wise to use as Eli recommends.
Thanks Eli some good advice there, I thought I new the basics but I picked up a couple of good tips there. As they say you learn something new every day. Cheers Rob (Down here in New Zealand)
So how come I can write a program -- say with Python -- that opens a socket on my computer to communicate with a remote file server and yet no virus detection program ever picks it up as suspicious? I could do all kinds of stuff like this. Seems like it's too easy to make potentially malicious code undetectable.
Thank you for giving all information. I have seen your lots of videos and requesting you to make a video of "difference between SSL and TLS" !!! I know some basics like TLS is new Name of SSL, but How SMTP over TLS is different than SMTP over SSL and lots of stuff
Eli mentions that all your programs have to be up to date even those little ones you don't think about. But what if these little programs don't make updates often? Are all programs on my computer a security risk?
I wouldn't say that paid malware scanners are worse than the free versions, they may be just as good but not worse. Malware bytes is a good one and the free version works well, how ever the paid version includes on the fly scanning which makes it a lot better.
Is there some kind of mistake when i tried to watch "Introduction to Backup Systems" i have been redirected to this "Computer Security Basics " ..... Could you correct it... Big fan btw!!!!!
Eli I have been browsing your video library and have been unable to find a video that describes certificates and the roles of certificates as it relates to file validation and server validation. If you have covered this topic and can point me to the proper video that would be great. If there hasn't been a video for this, would you consider doing one? Thank you again.
do u have any ideas of hacking by knowing their ip address, because my neighbours use my wifi and i have their ip addresses, not that i dont know to encrypt my wifi, even though i want them to use my wifi
I've seen this case from Norton && McAfee. On certain releases of their antivirus software in the past, once your subscription ended, it would block internet access. This means they had a percent yield of customers that called them back and paid them to re-activate their antivirus, unblocking the internet access. Then the customer would praise them because they "fixed" their problem. Tricksters they are.
If I am ever in charge of a squad of network security troops and we are being attacked by a group of hackers, I will walk into that server room, wearing a viking helmet and give a speech like the one in the beginning.
Hey Eli can you PLEASE do a video on how to get rid of ads and related searches. I'm trying to get my mom's laptop back in shape but it's just leaving me wanting to punch the crap out of the screen. Thanks in advance
+Derrick Shackelford Download and install a free extension named Adblock Plus to get rid from that annoying stuff. There are also many other extensions to avoid adds but Adblock Plus is the one I am using nowadays.
Not all anti-virus are good cuz viruses could always be encrypted and have proxies on it to make it real or an exe that opens a form that makes it not look like a virus
I have a problem that will not allow me to even access the registry, Almost every icon continues to open Windows media Center, even through control panel, I cannot even restore my system. The only programs which will open are youtube and Google. All of my .exe files are automatically defaulted to Windows media center, even my startup panel. I can't even seem to get to .dos, nor disable media center, and am essentially 'crippled'. I'm sending you an SOS message, I have backed-up my files on a mass USB device, and cannot even get a recovery from my D: partition! This is a nightmare for me, because I understand the registry, but cannot get to it to correct my problem, can (or will) you help me?

.. Continued: All you need is really an Antivirus/Antispyware and if possible a firewall from another provider and that's it. And please remember to optimize the Antivirus/antispyware to examine all files with NO exceptions at all because a virus can actually be hidden in a simple.txt file and then activated by another program that then just need to rename and execute the birus file. How many knows that? Also remember to update and scan for viruses, spyware and even rootkits every day.
Some of his advice is outdated. Almost all antiviruses protect against viruses, spyware, trojans etc. It just lacks a firewall and some web blocking features
Google chrome and Firefox also invade your privacy too much. I rarely use google chrome, and one day I try to buy something. And it auto fill all my personal Info. Where the heck they got that? I have to do something special in order to make them not do that. By default they meant to invade your privacy and put all your browsing history in auto fill, and the squares in the main home pages. I hate that.
I hate how IE tells you that some of your plugins are no good but it doesn't say which one are bad. It also says you may need a plugin but again doesn't tell you what you need IE is absolute garbage
Thing is I find it stupid to pay criminals, posing as AV creators, so u could buy their program & "pay for protection".These r entirely criminal manners & they should be jailed. In this corrupt world is totally a given, that AV creators will eagerly work on producing viruses so they can profit from demand after their products. If more people were just MORE aware of all this, iT could be now much better. Not even mentioning OS should already have a default flawles AV preinstaled by manufacturer...
Sounds ridiculous, but it is possible that updating software and anti virus software is causing more problems than viruses and hacking, unbelievable bloat right. First step if you are having problems with your computer, reinstall your OS. Keep your data off the C drive so you can reinstall easily.
Literally the best intro to a computer video ever
+Algol 865 you could not be more right
Back again for a project from my college class... SMH 10 year old video used for it...
Thank you, supreme commander. I now know how to defend my fort of data. We will be victorious once again!
I'd love to see an updated and a little more advanced video.
For Linux it's fine... It should protect your linux server from infection, but it may not detect infections that will harm your windows PCs
This vid was fun and informative to watch.
And Eli's warrior antics, were so much more entertaining,
than most AAA video games, and cheesy Hollywood movies.
Good tut!👍
Thank you so much for your videos bro! They're helping me a lot to learn more about my computer, the internet and how to be safe! Thanks again!
Vincenzo Pisano Good Day !

ok I just recommended Eli to a friend,, why oh why did I have to use the one were he is a dorky Viking
There is nothing as the best in the market. Once you coined yourself as one through marketing, malware and virus makers will target the product. My experience is to rotate a few of them throughout an application life cycle. Or if you have sufficient client base, spread a few of your choice products to test the best outcomes.
One important note to add that was left out - do not open unknown or untrusted executable files
Best intro I have ever seen. Period.
Eli I scowered your videos for detailed firewall stuff, and it seems to be lacking.. I think a 2 part video one going over firewall basics (types of firewalls, where to implement them, kind of stuff) and a second video on specific concepts / how to implement the specific concepts ( port forwarding, SNAT, Web filtering, VPN configuration, as you would have to do on a network based firewall ie: Watchguard / sonicwall custom computer software to run off of an old computer.) he has other videos that explain how to do al of those just not in a part two of this.
This is too entertaining to be a computer class.
Comodo Firewall can be TOO good. It will secure your system, but many times it can cause things that should work not to.
You're the shit!!!!!! haha. My own private tutor. Completely comprehensive and it's a joy to and an honor every time i look to see what video to watch next.
Thanks EliTCG

One of the best explanations seen, despite the hokey Viking bit. Thx.
i updated all my malware and virus protection software. gee thanks guy.
i loved the intro!
Love your rendition. Loaded with talent.
Your computer security video is very helpful for beginners
.
So how come I can write a program -- say with Python -- that opens a socket on my computer to communicate with a remote file server and yet no virus detection program ever picks it up as suspicious? I could do all kinds of stuff like this. Seems like it's too easy to make potentially malicious code undetectable.
thats why the title is computer security basic..
some ppl didnt read the title 1st..
good vid & explanation tho (y) thumbs up sir
Honest dude. I got a lot of tips from you.
Thank you for giving all information. I have seen your lots of videos and requesting you to make a video of "difference between SSL and TLS" !!! I know some basics like TLS is new Name of SSL, but How SMTP over TLS is different than SMTP over SSL and lots of stuff
nice as always. why one should not use internet explorer rather than fire fox and chrome thanks. and nice to watch you before that idol at the end.
Great boilerplate, bringing the heat to the newbs.
Eli mentions that all your programs have to be up to date even those little ones you don't think about. But what if these little programs don't make updates often? Are all programs on my computer a security risk?
I researched some software. The Bitdefender for antivirus and Malwarebytes for anti-malware look like good choices.
Hey Eli, just wanted to know if you think the Bitdefender total security or the Bitdefender Antivirus Plus would be better alongside Malwarebytes.
I wouldn't say that paid malware scanners are worse than the free versions, they may be just as good but not worse. Malware bytes is a good one and the free version works well, how ever the paid version includes on the fly scanning which makes it a lot better.
I see that your spelling has improved in the past 6 months, good job! Grammar is part 2 of the self improvement program.
Is there some kind of mistake when i tried to watch "Introduction to Backup Systems" i have been redirected to this "Computer Security Basics " ..... Could you correct it...

A poetic start!Wow! This alone is better than the technical staff!Hahaha!

Have you ever done a tutorial about installing and running Linux UFW/GUFW for beginners?
Hilarious Intro !!!
What is your opinion of BitDefender?
Very awesome! I love your videos and the way that you explain.
Another problem with Comodo Firewall is that most users find it to be very hard to completely uninstall.
how does this all apply/not apply for Apple users?
If I am ever in charge of a squad of network security troops and we are being attacked by a group of hackers, I will walk into that server room, wearing a viking helmet and give a speech like the one in the beginning.
Nice Video.
AVG is a great free anit-virus program! Update your malwarebytes also!

Is it good to have Geeksquad ?
@elithecomputerguy What is your opinion on Windows Defender?
You're so helpful, THANK YOU
