Hey Larry, looks like an interesting project. I had an old Knight Star Roamer I had from my teen years that I totally disassembled and restored back as if from a kit. So I say, go for it.
Thanks! After taking this one apart, if I can keep the circuit boards intact, it should be fairly easy to rebuild…..most of this will be elbow grease and time and patience…..the dial front is a soft plastic, Im hoping to polish it up a bit without dulling it…….Part 2 is out….now the fun begins! Thanks for watching and commenting…..Take Care-Larry
Thanks Martin, clean up and painting (matching something like this) will be a challenge. Texts Ive read said its a sandy color, looks like battleship gray to me……I think care must be taken with some of the PC boards though…..Thanks for watching….Take Care-Larry
My Dear Friend Larry, By all means DO take everything out, clean it thoroughly, and rebuild it again! You might even consider chrome plating the chassis. This set would be worth it...it is a really good one. I am eager to see this entire series. Having the calibrator and S-Meter are wonderful bonuses. I would like to request lots of before and after photos of this one too.
Thanks for watching and your comments Wayne! I’m leaning to a total tear down….not so sure about the chrome chassis….we will see as we progress! Take Care-Larry ps…wait until you see the Hallicrafters HT-37 that’s up on deck!!! 😉
Well that looks like a very interesting project. Will be greai to see this series. I agree if you want to Restore it to original condition you should rebuild it like its a kit. Thanks Larry
Thanks “Double L”!!, Thats my thoughts, PC boards dont look that high of quality, so I need to be careful with them….Thanks for watching and commenting! Take Care- Larry
Hey Larry, how are you doing my friend? This is going to be a very interesting project for sure. You know i prefer them really bad, because they are so much more rewarding seeing them come back to their former glory! I vote for the total tear down and restoration. You are the man to do it right! You always find all the cool stuff!
Thanks Gregg! Im doing good….I hope you and the family are doing good! We need to chat on the phone soon to catch up!…been tied up last few weeks playing wiffle ball with my grandson and making snacks for the grand daughter….lol…I agree on total rebuild and the reward….Sometimes I get more concerned with video content, that the attention to detail suffers and I dont have as much fun as I can….lol…It’s kind of hard to start disassembly when one is working…lol…..as far as finding cool stuff…it found me….a ham friend brought it to me 15 years ago and its been sitting on a shelf…..wait until you see the Hallicrafters HT-37 transmitter thats on deck! Thanks for watching and Take Care-Larry
Yes I know exactly what you mean. I've been out of the workshop for over a month, with the kids visiting, having Sophie, and then taking her back to NC. Stayed there a couple of weeks. Finally got down there yesterday and got more done on the MFP. Maybe I can get a video up to this weekend. I hope to anyway!
Neat radio Larry! Since this started as a kit, the disassembly/reassembly shouldn't be too bad. Would be nice to see it all cleaned up and nice. Hopefully the "S" meter won't ne an issue.
Thanks Bob! The meter movement works, not sure how good yet….part 2 is out…..now the fun is beginning! Thanks for watching and commenting! Take Care-Larry
Thanks Carl! Spoiler alert……Ive started shooting Part 2 and it involves parts laying everywhere…..lol…Thanks for watching and commenting….Take Care-Larry ps……how is your 101 doing now?
Yep, I know what you would do! I just hope I dont run into a unique part and me tear it up….with your hallicrafters, you have a few extra parts laying around…….this should be fun…the clean up will be work, but I think its in pretty good shape. Thanks for watching! Take Care-Larry
@@Backtothefutureradios I believe the bandswitch is the place to be most careful. As you said. I really dont like the interface between pc board and metal switches. You could consider mapping out the components and circuit in case you had to make a new board and abandon the old in place.
@@i82996 I was also thinking, if I could run the foil side of the boards on a copy machine, that would be good for several reasons…someone needing a board (like me) could reproduce one if necessary! Thanks for the advice….it’s coming apart pretty good now!!! But, I’ve always been good at tearing things apart! Been doing so since childhood!!! 😬 Take Care-Larry
Super interesting project! A real test for your "de-bugging" skills.
Thanks! It should be a fun project!!

Great project, Larry! I agree totally with your strategy. And I really look forward to seeing how it goes.

I would strip it and rebuild it like new. That's what I have done with others and you eliminate most ground problems.

@@Backtothefutureradios I just fixed the HW 101 and sent you an e-mail about it. Carl
it will be good to see you rebuild it from the ground up
Thanks! Being disassembled now…Take Care-Larry
Rekit it for sure!
Being disassembled as I type this! Thanks…Take Care-Larry
Well you know what I would do. I just don't have the heart to do anything but according to Col. 3:17.
