Heard of Toller Cranston but never saw his skating before. Wow, it is so interesting to watch. Compared to today where they skate, jump, spin, jump.... Toller is amazing!

He was a revolutionary and was such a wonderful influence on figure skating. After more than 35 years, all of his performances stand the test of time - never appearing dated! He was so innovative and really left his mark. His skating is a thing of beauty to watch - for the athleticism, the stunning artistry, and the feelings it evokes. Thank you, Toller!

He was so exciting to watch - ahead of his time. No one beat him for artistic expression but the judges were tough on him in the other requirements as Toller just couldn't be put in a box!

He was not good at figures. Under todays scoring system he was a gold.

@@robinritchie323 - That’s correct! As I said … “Toller couldn’t be put in a box; he was so artistic”.

I wish I could have seen him skate live. In these film clips, he never looked like he was prepping for his jumps; everything just flows. You can see where skaters like Paul Wylie were influenced by Toller Cranston's artistry.
His camel spins were so beautiful - as special as any triple jump.

I do really agree with Loutyr and k9henrydog and with you, skateindreams. I too think he deserved the gold overall. Wish these "flaming" compulsories had not been there. Then he SHOULD HAVE WON THE GOLD as he won the SP and LP.
Toller always was very strong in both his technical and astistic programme and very consistent.

Such a hodgepodge of music would be unthinkable now, but you can certainly see what a huge influence he's had on skating in general, and certainly on Canadian skaters. You can follow it through Brian Orser to Kurt Browning right on up to Jeffery Buttle and Emanuel Sandhu. I vividly remember watching him when I was a kid.

Figures were still a major part of the mark.
The judges did not understand the difficulty of his combination jumps . Many of his position’s defied gravity.

@morgenshmorgan oh, right, I looked it up... I guess Abbot and Mroz were the other Olympic team members from the US... but it shows how poor a job the media is doing of covering, that I didn't know that.... Throughout the 90s i knew who EVERYONE was. And I didn't have any internet access... nor was the internet then what it is today... but today, TV media barely covers skating, I barely know the skaters by name.
