I think I recognize you and the "naked" Kolb from sun n fun 09 at paradise city and I spoke to you for about 5 minutes at your camp site. I watched you depart from field some time sat morning and I hope you had a enjoyable return. There are not too many aircraft that actually look good without covering but the kolb looks very good uncovered and you can clearly see the robustness of the "crash cage".
I just purchased a Kolb Firestar with a Rotax 447 and a nice trailer for $5,500, it was out of state and cost about $1,000 to go get it., Now I gotta find a place to fly out of as I am in the city.
Thanks. It was nice to talk with many people that recognized my Kolb from UA-cam at Sun n Fun. The return flight was a little over 7 hours with many unforgettable sights...
Great video, Kip. Reminds me of Don G's old video "Around the Patch" in his Flagfly. I only wish the quality was better so that I could watch how you handle the controls more closely....very smooth.
The 912 is the way to go. Plenty of reserve power. My 503 was out of its' league at 850 lb gross. Solo, (me 185 lb) it flew quite nice, I could even throttle back a fair amount. A testament to the clean design.
I was considering the Jab 2200 also but I read so many times that it lacks elasticity and throttle response. Plus the gentleman in this video here is the one who infected me with the Kolb virus in the first place, made the good point that it is the more common engine on lightsport aircraft after all
I haven't flown my 503 mk3 since '01. Just sittin' in the garage. Watching this & others on youTube sure gives me the itch. I can see where the Firestar is probably the best. But then again, is there a bad Kolb?
@mrkongsimr These are in fact great first airplanes. Get some quality training and you will find the Kolb aircraft very safe and great performing aircraft...
I think he did the preflight off camera so not to bore us maybe everybody else does the preflight inspection and some talk for 30 minutes first, I think it's refreshing.
Hi I see you know what you are doing, I'm starting out and have seen the Quicksilver alot , but I like these Kolb's , for the fact they seem more like a flying plane and also they have a bug sheald. Do you think they are good for beginners or do you think another one wou
That's a cool little plane I wish I could afford one.
The guy gets in to de airplane, taxi and takes off like he is doing coffee and toasts in the morning, that's confidence..
Thanks for the video.

Nice windscreen - a perfect balance between the two options I've seen.

God knows what a 912 costs these days (let alone a 914) but it's a quality piece. Hope to see it on youTube. Best regards.

Awesome video !
@TheOwlBerlin Thank you. Please search kolbaircraft for more info.
A sport Pilot Certificate is all that's required
Thanks for the comment. I wish the quality were better too. I'll get the shakes down by tightening up the mount and try again...
I can tell you it's not cheap. I'll have to buy one sometime next year...
Screw the pre-flight.....Contact, restraints, lift-off.

I don't think there is a bad Kolb at all.
I am building an Mk III Xtra and it's going to have the 912.
Brakes are heel operated.
This video has no sound or my earphone is broken?
This was filmed with a very early 1.3 megapixel point and shoot camera. No sound.
Do you have brakes on that one? :-)
do you have breaks and if so where is you break lever at. thank's.
wah seronoknya......
Great!
funny how everyones an expert...with the internet to rely on. including myself.....it did looked like it stalled about 3 inches above the runway
Yea it wasn't perfect since the goal is 0 inches. But not bad!
Plus any landing you walk away from is good.
Hello; there is not Sound on this Video? best wihs Harald
Hello good evening; nice airplane - in Switzerland always not allowed to use with an engine gasoline, great pity, best wishs Harald CH
