My Canyon Ultimate had two cracked frames from chain dismounts. The chain coming off had pulled at the front derailleur creating a crack at the point it was bolted on. A true master piece and probably the lightest bike out there with full internal cabling. A long due update to the old model with external cabling. It’s going to be a competition to order one of these 👍
Yeah, great that they've made a new Ultimate. How about they sort out the Aeroad with its widely reported seat post problems. Was all set to buy one and luckily cottoned on to the 175605 bad reviews mentioning the seemingly unsolvable seatpost issue. GCN, how about you speak to their R&D guys about that?
Not really. The hidden cables add a lot of complication. The one piece bar makes it difficult to get the right stem length. Hand position is not as comfortable as a round bar. Garmin mounts/lights etc are also more difficult to add easily without expensive bike specific mounts and adaptors. For most people wanting an ultimate climbing bike traditional bars would be preferable.
Can you please link in what bike computer mount was on the new Ultimate? I have a Canyon with a similar aero handlebar and getting a mount with an integrated go pro adapter is challenging.
I've always wanted to own. Canyon and I'm hoping to buy one this year. I was looking at the aero but this looks not bad as well. Great video Ollie, love them and truly appreciate them.
A tarmac sl6 disc weights 6.8 with med depth wheels and tubes and power-meter and that’s last gen tech. Would be nice for GCN to do some proper group tests and recognise that bikes not in their sponsorship exist ..
Better check out your seat tube!! Mine came in XL with an asymmetrical and crooked seat tube. I wait for replacement frame since september. I only received excuses yet!
10 watts or 13 seconds over 10 miles in a wind tunnel... - 28mph/45Kph is a 21:26 for the 10. Saving 13 seconds... is a 1% improvement - That's so small and in ideal conditions, that it will be well within the margin of error of even the wind tunnel test, let alone any practical irl test. i.e It's unsupportable BS. From a Bicycle Industry Marketing department? Never... On the F1 Swiss Side link, I take it no one has noticed the $$$ Hundreds of Millions spent by F1 teams over the years on CFD and wind tunnels, not least this year's Mercedes incarnation, only to discover that they had made the worst possible design decisions for actual on track performance. Those pearlescent stickers though... very nice.
@@Intentsrig This detail seems to have conveninetly missed and should really be issued as a correction as the (TT) scenario given requires a rider. Isn’t the claim 5 watts saved with a rider on it? So the 10 watts time saving is a bit stretched. New Handlebar likely biggest savings combined with what 1watt from brake cables?
Way cool bike. The all internal cabling, is neat. After reading alot of the comments now we all kust need to find 10k laying around some where. Good show.
Well the only time I see 40 kph is on a descent. I can do around 30 kph on the flats so I may see a minimal benefit, but reality is I don’t need a super light climbing bike.
Hi i got a question what would you recommend more to get the aeroad cf slx or the new ultimate cf slx , i am struggling beacause i life not far from the ocean with quite a lot crosswinds
Ollie that Canyon is pretty awesome and who wouldn't want a 6.2 kg bike, its awesome. I however have a 2022 S-Works Atheos with 28mm tyres on Zipp 303 firecrest wheel set, sadly it's 500grams heavier than the Canyon but, thats because I cheaped out and went with Sram Force instead of Red.
At $11,000 dollars, it is fairly unattainable for most people. Not the best looking bike, but amazing they can make a disc brake bike that light. I cannot see why it isn't possible to build light bikes that don't cost $10,000. Being 130lbs, I really need a light bike like this, but there is no way I'm dropping that much money.
"I really need a light bike like this" - no you do not... you may "want" a light bike, but what people need is common sense instead of believing all the marketing BS and buying these overpriced bikes which get more expensive year by year without any development. Edit: also, it is possible to build light bikes for much cheaper. You may want to look at Winspace frames for example... there are also some extremely light and objectively good wheels available for ~1kEUR... And if you want Di2, the good old 8050 Ultegra is perfect, just use some other cranks that do not fall apart (105 for example).
@@Pienimusta It's actually 3k (in US dollars) and weighs 8.22kg or 18lbs. I mean not bad for a 105 component bike, but that extra 4lbs over 40-60 miles adds up.

I'm quite conflicted over this - I love the clean lines but I dislike internal cable routing on principle and I'm not sure you can have one without the other really! Now, if only this came in 7005 alloy with mechanical 105 it might be within my budget :-)
Still the most drab of all the high end bikes. Take a page out of Trek and Specialised’s playbook. Canyon needs to hire colourists and materials designers to give their high priced bikes a proper paint job.
In Ye Olden Days, every model from low end to high end had a beautiful paint job. Manufacturers then figured out that if you lock the nice paint to the higher models, it worked as an incentive to get people to buy them. Now here we are and no one gets nice paint. All black for everyone.
Lighter, stiffer, more aero... of course. But what about those wedge-shaped headset spacers with the bolt? Is this some kind of system that ensures the stem is in-line with the wheel? If so, this is the real innovation in this bike. I can't say how many hours of my life have been spent over the years obsessing over whether or not the stem was aligned straight to the wheel. I cannot be alone in that.
@@felixsilver2758 doesn’t work like that, aerodynamic resistance is exponential not linear. The difference is greatly amplified the faster you go. The reason they pick 45kph, even though that’s not a speed people usually cruise at, is cause they need to in order to get a number that sounds better.
This was exactly what I was thinking. That's a $4000 wheel set and its got a power meter as well. Seems like a pretty good deal, compared to what the other manufacturers are offering at the same price point!

Nice vid btw Ollie. Hope see you and the crew on the next GCN Event!
Both shite
pure enjoyment listening this german engineer speaking about the developement of the bike
I wish I could go with rim breakes with them. And suddenly got 5,2kg bike :D or 6,2 SLX variant
I haven't watched the video yet, but I guess it is x% stiffer, y% lighter, z% more "compliant" and takes wider wheels? And probably more "aero" too...
EDIT: Watched it... ROFL I am dying XD
It's heavier at the same spec
You forgot w% more expensive of course
@@swe223 But at least you get the still inaccurate (comapred to others) Shimano power meter with it... it is somewhat "funny" that almost half of the price is the groupset (DA Di2 w/ power is almost 5kEUR). Cycling industry has gone insane the last couple of years...
@@aszalai86 Odd thing is the cycling industry went insane before the current energy crisis. Mildly curious if we'll see them stick at current prices or hike like everything else - £10k mid range bikes anyone?
A true master piece and probably the lightest bike out there with full internal cabling. A long due update to the old model with external cabling. It’s going to be a competition to order one of these 👍
My 2014 TCR is lighter than that flimsy junk
@@Tarmaccyclocross what a coincident, I also have a 2014 tcr (advanced SL4). It still rides really really well.
Thanks god I got the 2021 version, the last without disk brakes 💃💃
Peak bike would also be Time and Space geared/braked to crack continuums. Excellent vid by both Dr. Bridgewood and the Siborg.
One of the most beutifull modern no nonsens bikes there is on the market.i ride the previous ultimate but my next will be also an ultimate....
The whole bike is nonsense
Definitly you never road one 😂
As a current owner of the CF SLX, I see no improvements other than the hidden cables.
Thats kinda the point tho
Truth!
No, you are just jealous and trying to justify having an old bike
@@lukepugh7728 i find round handlebars less comfortable than aero ones
Interesting and helpful as I'm seriously thinking of getting one.
Perfect bike!
It’s flimsy shite
The alpecin bikes look super nice
Can you please link in what bike computer mount was on the new Ultimate? I have a Canyon with a similar aero handlebar and getting a mount with an integrated go pro adapter is challenging.
I've always wanted to own. Canyon and I'm hoping to buy one this year. I was looking at the aero but this looks not bad as well. Great video Ollie, love them and truly appreciate them.
Don’t bother they’re shite
Though these always will be out of my price league but the pricing is actually pretty good. the 5k one is worth the money!
A tarmac sl6 disc weights 6.8 with med depth wheels and tubes and power-meter and that’s last gen tech. Would be nice for GCN to do some proper group tests and recognise that bikes not in their sponsorship exist ..
Well said
Super nice without a doubt.
Super flimsy shite more like
I visited the Canyon showroom in Carlsbad, CA, USA yesterday
I will save money for 10 years to buy this one, but 10 years later I will save again for 2032 edition, and then and then
You can invest your money so that way it doesn't lose value by inflation, but I'd rather build a Chinese frame like Trifox or Winspace instead of this
i can only dream of a bike like this lol. its a beauty.
It’s flimsy shite
@@Tarmaccyclocross especially with my fatass on it lol
Can we get more reviews with SRAM? Pretty sure buying/building a SRAM bike is way cheaper than a Shimano Di2 105
Those pearlescent stickers though... very nice.
5 watts with a rider. Is a great looking bike though.
@@Intentsrig This detail seems to have conveninetly missed and should really be issued as a correction as the (TT) scenario given requires a rider. Given that Canyon have hidden the cables and reduced the height of the front end in line with the aeroad I am surprised that they couldn't do better very honestly (especially given the inflated speed used for the measure)
@@mikebrewer1346 "I am surprised that they couldn't do better" - They can't even prove they did _this_ well. They have to publish a figure that wont catch a class action lawsuit, but they also need to sell the bike... so we are told there is an increase, but it's well within any testable margin and all but untestable in real world conditions.
Looks like the next bike I build up will have a rim brake frame with Campy Chorus with rim brakes and manual shifting. What other race worthy group can be built with rim brakes and cable shifting? The last Campy equipped bike I had was built with 8 speed Chorus Ergo.
Call me Retro.
Call me when we go back to 2016.
Never thought I would live to see Canyon make some of the better looking bikes in the pro-peleton
10,500 Euros !!!! - what world do GCN and Canyon think people live in?
i agree it’s a lot for the top end one, but when you compare the spec with spesh or pinarello it’s very competitive for the equivalent model
At 14:58 Ollie says that there’s an spec with SL frame with ultegra di2 with power meter for 4,999 euros. Is that only offered in Europe ? Because I don’t see that option in the US website
Yeah I noticed on another review that listed pricing and it had no price listed for a few models for US dollars.
I actually bought the 2022 Ultimate 12sp di2 CF SL 8 and it showed up with a left crank arm 4iiii power meter (Not listed on components). So that was a nice surprise. It’s Working well.
You also tested the Orbea Orca 2024. Which bike is more comfortable to ride for an amateur?
Thank you
Can you cover the Canyon Endurace CF 7?
Isn’t the claim 5 watts saved with a rider on it? So the 10 watts time saving is a bit stretched. New Handlebar likely biggest savings combined with what 1watt from brake cables?
And its only that at 45kph. So basically nothing at say 30-35kph.
I’ve never heard such crap get in the real world
Way cool bike. The all internal cabling, is neat. After reading alot of the comments now we all kust need to find 10k laying around some where. Good show.
It's amazing, but amazing bikes never used to cost this much. We are all being mugged off.
Well the only time I see 40 kph is on a descent. I can do around 30 kph on the flats so I may see a minimal benefit, but reality is I don’t need a super light climbing bike.
It’s not super light either
Awesome bike 👍🤘❤❤❤
It’s flimsy shite
Great looking and riding bike by the sounds of it 🥰 well presented too 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Jay!

Great bike. You should ride it at tring....
Crap flimsy bike
Hi i got a question what would you recommend more to get the aeroad cf slx or the new ultimate cf slx , i am struggling beacause i life not far from the ocean with quite a lot crosswinds
Are for real so called aero bikes are absolute shite In cross winds
Ollie that Canyon is pretty awesome and who wouldn't want a 6.2 kg bike, its awesome. I however have a 2022 S-Works Atheos with 28mm tyres on Zipp 303 firecrest wheel set, sadly it's 500grams heavier than the Canyon but, thats because I cheaped out and went with Sram Force instead of Red.
Ok.
@@Penalist tankx I feel better now.
Yeah who wouldn’t want a bike with a frame so flimsy one little spill and it’s knackered. I have a 2014 TCR that’s lighter than that 🤣🤣🤣🤣
looks clean, dashing and classic
And it snap in half if you have a little spill
Are you kidding? It looks fantastic! Only one thing seemed missing to me and that was a slightly bigger pancake on the cog set.
hey, thanx for the great video! what brand is the wahoo mount with the integrated light-/gopro-mount? at min 8.10
thanx Tobias
At $11,000 dollars, it is fairly unattainable for most people. Not the best looking bike, but amazing they can make a disc brake bike that light. I cannot see why it isn't possible to build light bikes that don't cost $10,000. Being 130lbs, I really need a light bike like this, but there is no way I'm dropping that much money.
The basic carbon model starts at 2k and is barely over 8kg.
@@Joshua-dx7zn It has a 2kg wheelset, changing it to even a decent 1500 gramm alu set u gain a lot.
@@Joshua-dx7zn if you're racing maybe but a fit amateur rider should be able to ride 8 kgs of bike fast all day. Many gravel bikes are 8kgs plus and that doesn't stop guys going on ultra events.
That is one sleek bike!
It’s one shit bike
I think Olli is the only person on youtube that doesn't completely butcher the pronunciation of schwalbe
I'm quite conflicted over this - I love the clean lines but I dislike internal cable routing on principle and I'm not sure you can have one without the other really!
Now, if only this came in 7005 alloy with mechanical 105 it might be within my budget :-)
Love it On my wishlist
That's one fancy wish list! 👀
Are you a bit simple
(13:30) Wait a minute, did you stop the rear wheel with the left brake !?😵💫😵💫😵💫
british braking hits different
it's an English thing. They do it like that, I think has to do with traffic being left sided
The UK just has to be different - drive on the left, pounds and ounces, and bad teeth
@@Goriaas That makes a lot of sense 😳. The cars also must have the clutch on the right and the throtle on the left. 🙃
@@afonsograde5531 No clutch is still on the left in England
Still the most drab of all the high end bikes. Take a page out of Trek and Specialised’s playbook. Canyon needs to hire colourists and materials designers to give their high priced bikes a proper paint job.
In Ye Olden Days, every model from low end to high end had a beautiful paint job. Manufacturers then figured out that if you lock the nice paint to the higher models, it worked as an incentive to get people to buy them. Now here we are and no one gets nice paint. All black for everyone.
I imagine that it's a good deal quicker than my old Masi nuovo strada...
Would you take this bike? or the Factor 02 VaM
Both crap
Winspace get there SLC'S at around 5 kgs when they go for lightweight, and at a 3rd of the price.
Im gonna put aero wheelset on that frame
such a cool bike!
Si: "give me an example of something that I won't notice but yet makes the difference"
R&D guy: *points to one of the most noticeable changes*
Questions on sizing, wondering what your height and inseam are and what size are you riding ?
Lighter, stiffer, more aero... of course. But what about those wedge-shaped headset spacers with the bolt? Is this some kind of system that ensures the stem is in-line with the wheel? If so, this is the real innovation in this bike. I can't say how many hours of my life have been spent over the years obsessing over whether or not the stem was aligned straight to the wheel. I cannot be alone in that.
Love you too Ollie
fancy thia bike
Are you dim
Nice bike. Will it be as available as the old ultimate? (which means never😅)
....what would be the time difference by adding power ???? (ie getting in better shape)
I wish I was man enough to warrant owning something like this. I could never do it justice.
13:22 I have my brakes set up the same way!! Funny
If it is 10W at 45km/h, how many will it be at 35km/h? 1W?
If that haha
should be 6 watts
@@felixsilver2758 doesn’t work like that, aerodynamic resistance is exponential not linear. The difference is greatly amplified the faster you go. The reason they pick 45kph, even though that’s not a speed people usually cruise at, is cause they need to in order to get a number that sounds better.
10W is without a rider. With rider only 5W according to Canyon.
@@Gianniz27 yup, so around 1w difference at 35 km/h.. much less than changing tube to a better or inflating tires a little bit more
It's actually good value when compared to other also out of control bike prices.
This was exactly what I was thinking. That's a $4000 wheel set and its got a power meter as well. Seems like a pretty good deal, compared to what the other manufacturers are offering at the same price point!
@@covefe9210 that wheelset probably costs 300 bucks to manufacture.
Can you guys compare the Tarmac SL7 and the Canyon Ultimate?
