On 9-11, I was in the Hospital after spine surgery. I remember being pretty medicated, and the nurses coming in my room, and turning on my TV. I couldn’t understand why initially. As my meds stopped keeping me so loopy, and I began to watch the horror unfold on my TV screen…I panicked and wanted to get up and leave to go gather my Family. It was an incredibly shocking, devastating, terrifying and sad day! Everyone was weeping together, and everyone was standing together. It was a time when differences stood still, and everyone stood together as one, United as a Country, as we should have been and should always be.
I still remember 9/11 like it was yesterday. Had the opportunity to visit ground zero in June 2002. There was still a huge hole in the ground where the towers used to be. It was a solemn sight to behold.
I'm not sure how you would take a ballad that is this soft and tender and then put some loud dramatic ending on it. This is not a "soarable" song. I like the understated ending with the beautiful harmonies.
Sarah originally wrote it about a musician, I forget his name, who died of a heroin overdose. But it became famous as a commercial for the ASPCA. Sarah is heavily involved with that organization.
David voice is amazing as usual! only thing I wish the song was longer I agree with you,, I love this new stories & song volume 11 so far my favorite is dead man rising!! I’m excited about David’s next release on Friday! Thanks Josh!
I like David’s version of this song but I agree with you Josh, I wish he would have hit a few higher soaring notes toward the end. I’ve always loved this song and Sarah McLachlan makes it sound sadder and sort of haunting, I think it’s the Celtic lilt to her voice which I love. David’s softer breathier version gives a more hopeful feel to the song but I still wish he would have soared with some high notes. Maybe the next song LOL. If you get a chance listen to Una Furtiva Lagrima from Stories & Songs Vol 2. It’s an Aria and it’s beautiful. Have a great Day Josh!!

Totally agree. We had so much unity. Wish we had that today.
I remember 9/11. I lived just outside of DC. We went from planes flying over constantly to an eerie quiet!
Wow, so crazy!

Glad you enjoyed it.
I think it was perfect. Soft, and in an almost hushed tone. Loved it!
Glad you liked it!
Isn’t this song about drug addiction?David of course does a fantastic job as usual. Maybe I’m wrong but I did think it was someone dealing with drugs.

Oh wow I didn’t know this! Very interesting.
@@joshmurrayreactionsthe musician who died was Jonathan Melvoin of the Smashing Pumpkins.
David is a master of his vocal mechanism! His peaceful calm and soft rendition of this song is pure perfection!!
I agree!
