The lyrics of this song should mirror the life of every true christian. Once we look into the mirror ouf souls - God's holiness - we see ourselves for what we are, wretched sinners. Once we accpet that, repent, turn to God and seek help, humbling ourselves, He can make us whole again by the power of His Word - The Sacred Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ! When God looks at us through that mirror he sees Jesus, who stands before us, and took our place. We are made alive in Him! Praise God!
"We walked together through the door And I looked in the glass once more But the only one reflected back was him Somehow the only one in the mirror saw was him" Not ashamed to say I bawled my eyes out from the beauty of this line. I've never heard the gospel put so perfectly into a masterpiece of music. Theocracy is criminally underrated.

Victor Manzano Totally agree. I'm ashamed to say I only have one of their albums so far, As The World Bleeds. But I must have listened to it two dozen times already, and I'm not the least bit tired of it. Like you said, they raise the standard so it makes it hard to appreciate lesser-quality music haha
+Darker Instincts I haven't managed to buy an album yet so don't feel that bad. I did, however, snag up one of those 'I AM' t-shirts they recently put out. I really hope that with our small yet generous contributions, we helped them out in some way, shape or form. High caliber musicianship like theirs deserve to be recognized on a much larger scale. 👍👍
Matt Smith is just blessed with raw God-given talent. What an amazing and heart wrenching way to translate the Gospel into a beautiful allegory of a dream that we can all relate to. This song perfectly describes our lives and the judgement that we will all face, but I pray that if you don't know Christ as your savior, that you will accept Him into your life, so that the end of this song will be your story, as well. God bless.
im going to agree. i have been a great study to music and the theory of it for over 20 years. i only heard this song a month ago, and i am absolutely blown away by the odyssey that it portrays. i keep pinching myself, to wake myself up from never having heard this song before. its real, and i have been asleep until now.
Evangelism involves not only seeking converts, but also talking, writing, and expressing our faith. Music, art, poetry, film, and other artistic mediums are but other ways of evangelizing to people. If an atheist, or pagan hears a beautiful song like this, and it moves his heart toward belief in the One True God, Amen. Even atheists hear the voice of God in their heart. Let us pray for them, and our conversion. All of us need conversion on this path called Life.
In times of struggle in my Christian walk i always listen to this song and it makes me remember that Jesus already paid the price for everything i’ve ever done or been through. He wipes it all away. Nothing we can do can save us. It’s only Him. This song may not be scripture but i certainly believes it is inspired by the Living God
Lyrics Below: Listen to the tale I tell a haunting dream I know so well When walking home alone one night my path revealed by candlelight Ahead I see an open door with no idea what's in store I glance inside the door to see a hall of mirrors beckons me I take a breath and step inside a tale of love and shattered pride The door slams shut, I start to run And it seems my journey has begun... I run and turn from side to side with fear and panic in my eyes The vastness overwhelming me mirrors far as the eye can see I see myself in every one I see the things that I have done A thousand forms of flattery the fear soon turns to haughtiness in me Different mirrors, different shapes my different strengths accentuate Each mirror has a name and face and all reflect me in some way I look at them to see myself to judge my life by someone else The metaphors within replete: the mirrors are the people that I met Look at the man you see - in the mirrors The things you can be - in the mirrors The glory of me revealed in the mirror's eye The mirror never lies The fire in my eyes - in the mirrors The vanity rise - in the mirrors The power of pride comes alive in the mirrors Gazing in the mirrors I behold All the greatest chapters of my story ever told In the mirrors The world is turned to gold Orchestral Section At the end of the Hall of Mirrors I behold a golden door I imagine all the beauty the other side must hold in store So I quickly reach out my hand To enter the next room in this promised land I pull the giant door open To continue my journey, I step inside But it slams shut behind me, and I'm back outside The pouring rain welcomes me into the arms of the coldest, blackest night II. The Stranger in the Storm The light of the mirrors has faded away into distant memory As the rain keeps coming down My candle extinguished I struggle to walk a path I cannot see And the rain keeps coming down The darkness grows with every step I could cut it with a knife As the rain keeps coming down I can't see a thing and I've never felt so alone in all my life But the rain keeps coming down... Caught in the fury of the storm (The darkness suffocates) Body and soul weary and worn (Another twist of fate) Never been so afraid before (The ending of this tale?) Never should have opened the door (From euphoria to hell) I question my fate, my end to die in this storm Maybe this was the plan back from the day I was born But in th hall of mirrors I had felt so high I cannot walk another mile in this flood So resigned to my fate, I just collapse in the mud If I cannot go on, I'll just lay down and die Suddenly a light I see, shining in the distance I make my way toward it with my fading hope reborn As I draw near, the light is clear Though the rain beats its resistance But I press on and pray this is a shelter from the storm Advancing now toward the light I'm quickly moving forward This hope has given me new strength I thought I'd never know But I take a step, and fall right back For the ground's gone beneath me And I behold, illuminated in the light's warm glow A dark chasm, a great abyss A vast expanse of nothingness A pit that has no bottom as far as the eye can see It spans the whole horizon, and there is no way across My lonely heart is shattered and all hope I had is lost I'm startled to feel a hand on my shoulder I turn to see a shadowed figure standing in the rain But somehow I'm not afraid of him Even when he speaks my name And somehow I can tell that he means me no harm Just by the peace that I see in his eyes And even though I've never even seen him before It's like he's known me all my life "Why are you crying?" the stranger asks As I wipe away the tears I point toward the great abyss The source of all my fears "I must get across and get to that light For it represents my only hope tonight But when I saw the chasm, all that hope was lost I've spent so long in the dark and the rain That the sight of the light made my heart sing again But the gulf's so wide, and there's no way across" The stranger smiled, and took my hand He said, "But you are wrong, my friend You cannot cross the gulf yourself, that's true" He led me down toward the edge And pointed just over the ledge And said, "Behold, I built a bridge for y ou" Solo I cross the bridge toward the light The stranger saved my life tonight I turn to try to thank him, but he's gone A long way to the other side I'll make my way without my guide No time to waste, for I must carry on The bright light shines forth from behind A door beyond description Blood and scratches mark the door from ages of abuse I'm confused no more, for above the door Is a weathered, old inscription "All who would see reality, enter the Hall of Truth" And so I do III. The Truth Revealed As I step inside I can see another mirror A mirror so bright That my eyes must turn away A mirror so high I start to question all the others And as I stand there in the Hall of Truth my heart can only say: "Show me the truth, I don't know what to believe For the mirrors all showed something different to me And my pride has given way to misery I've spent so long in the dark and the rain That the sight of the light made my heart sing again And the stranger built a bridge across for me" "BEHOLD THYSELF" a voice rings out in paralyzing thunder It echoes all throughout the hall and sends me to my knees When the voice calls my name I'm overcome with fear and wonder As I slowly start to rise and face the great mirror in front of me When I open my eyes, I have to close them again But still the image is burned into my mind... A face with eyes as black as night A terrifying sight The flesh rotting away in sickness and decay It's mangled by disease I'm unable to breathe Tell me what manner of creature this could be 'Cause it's not me I run away as fast as my feet will carry me Back to the door leading into the night Even the storm that almost claimed my life was better than this And so I throw open the door and see a man (The figure of a man) The stranger from the storm returns again (To save me once again?) I see understanding in his eyes (He's seen this all before) Maybe he can tell me what I saw behind that door "Tell me what I saw in the mirror Before I ran away Tell me what I saw in the mirror That face of sickness and decay Tell me what I saw in the mirror That left me terrorized With the lifeless, blackened eyes? Was it a demon From the fiery waves? Was it the undead From beyond the grave? Oh the face that I beheld in the mirror left me paralyzed Won't you tell me what I saw in the mirror on this night?" "The light from the mirror you saw from afar The Mirror of Souls shows all men as they are You entered the hall and you asked for the truth The man that you saw in the mirror was you" "No! Don't show me the truth 'cause I don't want to believe What the Mirror of Souls has revealed unto me And the face I saw reflected cannot be me Dying and lost in the arms of decay I do not recognize the face I've seen today And if you say that's my face I must disagree" The meaning of these things I saw: The mirror is the holy eyes of God The truth unveiled before me with these words of the stranger: "The mirrors you saw in the hall long ago Were mirrors of lies, not reflecting the soul When you look unto others to see what they see You see an illusion, deception, false reality" I have seen my soul in the mirror And it has broken me I have seen myself so much clearer Than I had ever seen "Can't you take away all this sickness from my soul and set me free? You can save me...I believe" And then he said, "Arise, my child our faith has made you reconciled Now gaze into the Mirror once again" We walked together through the door And I looked in the glass once more But the only one reflected back was him Somehow the only one in the mirror saw was him Gazing in the Mirror of my Soul Staring at the man who took my place and made me whole In the Mirror The Mirror of my Soul
Wow, this is an awesome message. It tells us not to look upon what others think of us, because they see only the outside. This is the hall of mirrors in the beginning. But once you leave them behind, your alone in the dark. Struggling in the darkness, you may see a light, but a deep, vast chasm separates you from it. Then a man comes up from behind, walking with him in the darkness, and he made a bridge to cross the chasm.
This music is a refreshing change from the metal the dark metal I grew up with. Gives me hope taking metal in a more positive direction with the knowledge of the past.
I can't take credit for this, but I found this excellent breakdown on song meanings and thought it would be good to post here: This is an incredibly complex song (I'm a Christian Theology major, and I could honestly write a dissertation on this alone), so I'll break it down by pieces. Part 1: From: Listen to the tale I tell Until: The world is turned to gold It's fairly obvious, as the metaphor is explained fully. The mirrors in the hall represent people who know the narrator. They see him as a generally good, righteous man, and this pleases him. He sees himself as the world sees him - as a virtuous man, and he's proud of it. Part 2 From: At the end of the Hall of Mirrors Until: If I cannot go on, I'll just lay down and die While this may just seem like a transition to get the narrator to the chasm, it's much more than that. The storm represents the suffering caused by sin. The golden door is a metaphor for temptation - it often looks appealing, sometimes it's even disguised as something righteous (the devil masquerading as an angel of the light, for example). He opens the door to temptation, and he begins to see his soul for how it is - battered by a storm caused by sin. Part 3 From: Suddenly, a light I see.... Until: My lonely heart is shattered and all hope I had is lost Caught in the storm of sin, the narrator notices a hope, an escape. A light (God) shining in the distance. He runs toward it, at full steam, until he is standing in front of a chasm, separating him from the light. Much like sin acts to separate us from God, the narrator's sense of hopelessness is an important aspect on his road to salvation. Part 4 From: I'm startled to feel a hand on my shoulder Until: [He] said, "Behold, I built a bridge for you." His hopelessness allows the Spirit to work through his Humility. Christ's death has built a bridge from man to God, across the Chasm of sin. In this section, Christ also acts as a comforter in the midst of the narrator's distress, highlighting His promises to never forsake us. Part 5 From: I cross the bridge toward the light Until: You see an illusion, deception, false reality The climax of the story, if you will. The narrator's acceptance of Christ's gift is only the first part of his salvation - there is something much more terrifying he must do next. He is forced to come to realize that not only is he not the virtuous man he thought himself to be, he is in fact the exact opposite - evil. Without God, a man can do no good, and this point is punctuated with an exclamation point when the narrator looks into the mirror. He sees himself, but his flesh is rotting. There is disease and decay. Maggots and worms make their home in his body, and his eyes black as coal. He realizes what others see is a lie, for they cannot see the soul. But God can, and He judges you by His standards, not yours. Part 6 From: I have seen my soul in the mirror. Until: You can save me, I believe" The final part of the narrator's salvation - confession and repentance. He admits that he is a sinner, and nothing in his power can change that. So he asks Christ to fix it for him. Part 7 From: And then He said "arise, my child... Until The Mirror of My Soul [end] This part can be summed up in one word - forgiveness. Christ takes our sins upon himself, but because He is God, he remains Holy. The scene where the narrator and Christ look into the mirror represents the double imputation of the cross - the mirror, the eye of God - only sees Christ, and has completely forgotten our sin. See, when God forgives, His forgiveness is absolute - nothing remains to hold against us. It is complete absolution. original post at songmeanings.com/m/comments/view/73016141217/#replies
Really cool imagery, except that righteousness is not imputed. To say that it's imputed is to say that God sees us as righteous when we are, in fact, not. It would be no different from the people at the beginning seeing us as righteous when, _in fact,_ we wouldn't be. Christ's Sacrifice on the cross truly does _make_ us righteous by _infusing_ grace into our souls. We aren't just fooling God; we are actually made righteous. Righteousness is infused, not imputed. And I know that's not your post, so don't feel like I'm attacking you :)

Amen, Sunday's the day of obligation for Catholic Christians. Keep going to mass. "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Acts 2:42
hello i'm Scott Harvey from Australia i'm a Christian man and I still love listening to heavy metal music like Theocracy great Christian band I like to share my metal music with my neigbours too lol i'm a sharing person so I play my metal with my br window wide open and the volume up loud..never had complaints yet...lol
I'm a Christian... was just arguing with another Christian whose argument was that they cannot imagine angels singing metal, so it must be of the world. I was like... I can definitely imagine angels singing metal! Can't imagine them singing opera or church music or rapping, does this mean that these music styles are "of the world" now lmao?
An absolutely amazing song. I've known about the band for years, though I've never gotten to listening to them, and a few months ago my brother pointed out this song when I complained about a lack of truly long power metal songs. Recently I decided to check it out again, and liked it, but not really more than that. Just enough to listen it another time a few days later. And again. And again. Again, again. And now I basically can't stop listening it.
I'm really new to this band, and somehow this song took my attention, ... yo see my mother language is not English, I knew this song was something else from the first time I hear it, so I search for the lyrics and. I must say, there's no perfection in the world but this song comes really close , what a masterpiece !
Mirror Of Souls was recommended in the comments of the song Empire Of The Clouds by Iron Maiden. By this, I'd like to recommend you the Empire Of The Cloud: another masterpiece that lasts over 18 minutes! Keep the music alive guys! :)
I have listened to alot of the material this band has done I was praying for a christian band influenced by the greatest progresive metal band on earth Dream Theatre and theocracy now has a 22:30 min song very well done they are the best thing in Christian music bar none.
É uma música emocionante do começo ao fim, tudo perfeito, para glória de Deus! Isso é uma obra prima oriunda de divindade! Desejo todo sucesso para esta banda incrível. It's an exciting song from beginning to end, all perfect, to the glory of God! This is a masterpiece of divinity! I wish every success for this incredible band.
This way, we can reach the light. But the light comes from the mirror of Truth, and in that mirror, we see our sins. My sins. And it's a dying person, someone not familiar from the other mirrors. It is you, from the eyes of God. All your sins are visible for Him, altough the other mirrors didn't see it. After seeing this, I ran away, i didn't want to see it. But Jesus stopped me at the door. He took away the sins, and shows me the mirror again. And all I see is Jesus, he took my place! Halleluja
This band deserves more. A LOT MORE. This song is incredible, a work of art. Essa banda merece mais. MUITO MAIS. Essa música é incrível, uma obra de arte. 🇧🇷
The lyrics are very very long and a bit intricated, but the message is wonderful! Each time I get to the end it makes me tear because of the wonderful things God has made for us through Jesus Christ! Glory to him only forever and ever, no one else is worhty of it.
I have been what would would be called a " deviant" in the eyes of God but there was always that pulling at the edge of my mind no matter what that has called me to the father , looking back it always felt like there was a fog upon my thoughts but now that I've been through the crucible ( only word I have for what I have been through) I have met my wife and ever since I have literally done a complete 360 from what I was I used to self harm and went through extremely trying times ( I have been on 5 different medications but now I've been off my latest medication for 3 months) and i still feel called to the father and I have been told that I have a testimony ( coming from absolute rebel who took drugs and used to drink all the time) I am now changed the main lesson I have learned is that the father is ever patient ( it's taken me nearly 10 years to realise) a lot of atheists may scoff and laugh at what I'm saying but this process can take years and I have now found peace , hope and meaning in the father , this song is not mearly a song but it is indeed a true story of personal change even if it takes years my message is no matter how downtrodden you are the father always answers your prayers it might have taken nearly 10 years in my case but he listens and he never forgets and this song is true in it 's meaning this is literally the order that my salvation took
Yes...only Jesus Christ can save us! The message for a lost, dark, sinful world will always remain the same...even if the instrumental creativity changes throughout the ages! Remember, Jesus stretches forth His hand to where we are...to lift us up & out of the mire that wants to take us under. It's a God thing...it's a good thing!
have lost all faith in god and christ. full on straight up atheist ........BUT.. this band still strikes a cord.. this album is AMAZING in every way! so very talented
This song has amazing istrumental parts and lyrics are so amazing of how those lyrics tells what is our spiritual life when we are trying to find God Him self :)
"I'm an atheist" You won't be for long if you keep listening to Theocracy. They don't preach. They simply tell you how life is. At some point, you will be convicted. You will convince yourself. It seems that way. That is how the Spirit works. It is that mysterious. No one can really explain it. It simply is, and it is undeniable.
fooser77 I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that's not gonna happen. I was Christian before and along the years I evolved into something extremely more logic and human, so there's no chance I become one again. I meant that, despite Theocracy being a Christian band, they're good. Not the lyrics, though. Melodically. Some lyrics are fine, some are as narrow minded as all other Christians can think about. And spare me your "spirit" talk. You're all the same, thinking you know everything while every tiny object you use is a result of scientific endeavor. You guys wouldn't have light, TV, computers, internet, Google and Facebook if science and atheists hadn't allowed it by researching and making all that possible for you to use. Respect and bow to science, the only one that REALLY have been improving everyone's lives.
Leandro Nardi science? where would science be without laws? laws that CHRISTIAN men hypothesized and proved? Sir Isaac Newton's 2 laws are in and of themselves a proof of an ultimate, omnipotent creator. Oh, and these laws also disprove the theory of evolution, which is just that -- a THEORY -- unsubstantiated by any real facts and always changing. Christianity itself hasn't changed since its conception (except at the hands of those who would pervert it and try to destroy it from within), while all other faiths and beliefs constantly vary and waiver in every fitful breeze and change of tides. GOD gave us knowledge; science is a furthering of that knowledge in a pitiful attempt by man to learn the secrets of God, of which we will never be privy (until eternity). True knowledge is never achieved until one gazes with open mind and heart upon the perfect wisdom and love that comes from God Almighty Himself.
This song takes out the scales from my eyes to see clearly and lucidly that Jesus is my reflection.that his spirit is in my heart and that because of him we are unity with God.because i looked upon the mirror that was when somehow i only saw you Jesus.
You might be right but i personally think it's about the journey you gonna make when you died and go to heaven. Or atleast on your way to God when he will judge you, and if you believe Jesus will be your savior. Thats my idea on what this song is about. A true masterpiece
+Marcelino1098 yeah that's how I interpret it as well, it's interesting how Matt "paints" a picture just with word like its a physical place he has been
Weather you're a christian, metal fan or niether, the one thing that I think most of us agree on is that this song is full of pure freaking awesomeness.
it might be the greatest song ever made but if not it stands easily next to 2012, hemispheres, close to the edge, rhyme of the ancient mariner, suppers ready and anesthetize as the best epic songs ever made. I really hope their move to atomic fire records will get them noticed more then they are especially outside of Christian circles, there's no way any progressive rock fan or heavy/power metal fan couldn't like this unless they cant handle christian lyrics which is dumb
I totally agree with what you say. My point is, all of this has been carried out by people who called themselves christians, but didn't even know what christianity was about. Or do you think those actions are according to the command "But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven"? There are no exeptions to that, no matter what the pope or any other man says. It is what defines a true christian.
Did`t know that it was a christian band until now. Been listning most to project aegis and some randome Theocracy traks,, but started to shuffle play and when lyricks came in some videos I realized it. He make grate metal music and have a fantastic voice. Love from Norway ❤
Strangely enough.. christian music is catching up really well. Skillet, Theocracy and quite a few more manage to bring it up to great qualities. As for the song.. the first time I listened (while reading the lyrics) I could sing along pretty easily, which is rare. It just feels as if.. it was in me. Sounds stupid, I know :) Probably one of the few songs that could give me chills, along with Sonata Arctica's White Pearl, Black Oceans.
I think theres no band that sounds like Theocracy cuz their sound is unique but i can give u other christian metal bands that have positive christian theme lyrics. Here it goes: Stryper, Narnia, Harmony, Impellitteri, Rob Rock, HB, Mehida, Affector, Menahem, Divinefire, Seventh Avenue, Bloodgood, Mayestic Vanguard, Letter 7. Theres more to this but i cant remember right now. I dont know will u like any of this but I think its worth checking. If u want more names late me know :)

I LOVE THIS SONG! It's one of my faves from the album of the same name. At first, when I listened to it, I was like, "How long is this thing," but as I kept listening, the meaning behind it was so wonderful. This particular one gave me pause to look at myself and realize just how fallible I am. Great song, great lyrics.
This song reminds me of when I was young and still believed. This is the God that comforted me when I was scared or alone. It almost makes me want to go back, but I'm older and "wiser". I don't believe and I'm not willing to suspend disbelief for comfort. Just another part of childhood that I gave up to be miserable and an adult.
"To suspend disbelief for comfort" - I pray you will come to see that there are much better reasons to return than comfort. It's really not always comfortable (and probably even going to be VERY uncomfortable one of these days) to believe and be counted among the body of Christ. I pray He will reveal himself to you again and your heart will be open for him. This is about love, not comfort. About life, not comfort. About joy and peace, not comfort. About purpose, meaning and truth. There is more to life than being a miserable, "wise" adult. Been there too... It's part of the mosaic sometimes. Please don't stay there, in your misery.
This is a Christian song, longer than most TV shows, and every minute manages to be better than most Christian music and most TV shows.
When you're not even Christian, but the metal is so pure that you just gotta listen to a 20+ minute song.
I'm kind of a neckbeard atheist. I'm also a metalhead, though. Credit where credit is due, man. Metal has no race or religion, only rock.
Not a Christian. This is my favorite song
It's a pretty bad ass song. :)

It's 2023, and I'm still listening to this epic journey put into song. The praise of mankind is fleeting. The eyes of God decide the truth.
August 2024 amen!
Praise God!

No words can describe this song. The only thing that compares is John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’ Progress”, one of the greatest books ever.
How all metal should be
That's some C.S.Lewis-tier metal
Hell no
Great reference. :)
I mean, metal is a bit before Lewis' time, so he probably would have just heard it as noise.
But I get your meaning and I dig it.
This isn’t just a song, this is a way of life

Same here, especially after I had sex with my gf and kinda feel guilty. I lisen to this song and he wipes it all away.
Lyrics Below:
Listen to the tale I tell
a haunting dream I know so well
When walking home alone one night
my path revealed by candlelight
Ahead I see an open door
with no idea what's in store
I glance inside the door to see
a hall of mirrors beckons me
I take a breath and step inside
a tale of love and shattered pride
The door slams shut, I start to run
And it seems my journey has begun...
I run and turn from side to side
with fear and panic in my eyes
The vastness overwhelming me
mirrors far as the eye can see
I see myself in every one
I see the things that I have done
A thousand forms of flattery
the fear soon turns to haughtiness in me
Different mirrors, different shapes
my different strengths accentuate
Each mirror has a name and face
and all reflect me in some way
I look at them to see myself
to judge my life by someone else
The metaphors within replete:
the mirrors are the people that I met
Look at the man you see - in the mirrors
The things you can be - in the mirrors
The glory of me revealed in the mirror's eye
The mirror never lies
The fire in my eyes - in the mirrors
The vanity rise - in the mirrors
The power of pride comes alive in the mirrors
Gazing in the mirrors I behold
All the greatest chapters of my story ever told
In the mirrors
The world is turned to gold
Orchestral Section
At the end of the Hall of Mirrors
I behold a golden door
I imagine all the beauty
the other side must hold in store
So I quickly reach out my hand
To enter the next room in this promised land
I pull the giant door open
To continue my journey, I step inside
But it slams shut behind me, and I'm back outside
The pouring rain welcomes me
into the arms of the coldest, blackest night
II. The Stranger in the Storm
The light of the mirrors has faded away
into distant memory
As the rain keeps coming down
My candle extinguished
I struggle to walk a path I cannot see
And the rain keeps coming down
The darkness grows with every step
I could cut it with a knife
As the rain keeps coming down
I can't see a thing and I've never felt
so alone in all my life
But the rain keeps coming down...
Caught in the fury of the storm
(The darkness suffocates)
Body and soul weary and worn
(Another twist of fate)
Never been so afraid before
(The ending of this tale?)
Never should have opened the door
(From euphoria to hell)
I question my fate, my end
to die in this storm
Maybe this was the plan
back from the day I was born
But in th hall of mirrors I had felt so high
I cannot walk another mile in this flood
So resigned to my fate, I just collapse in the mud
If I cannot go on, I'll just lay down and die
Suddenly a light I see, shining in the distance
I make my way toward it with my fading hope reborn
As I draw near, the light is clear
Though the rain beats its resistance
But I press on and pray this is a shelter from the storm
Advancing now toward the light
I'm quickly moving forward
This hope has given me new strength
I thought I'd never know
But I take a step, and fall right back
For the ground's gone beneath me
And I behold, illuminated in the light's warm glow
A dark chasm, a great abyss
A vast expanse of nothingness
A pit that has no bottom as far as the eye can see
It spans the whole horizon, and there is no way across
My lonely heart is shattered and all hope I had is lost
I'm startled to feel a hand on my shoulder
I turn to see a shadowed figure standing in the rain
But somehow I'm not afraid of him
Even when he speaks my name
And somehow I can tell that he means me no harm
Just by the peace that I see in his eyes
And even though I've never even seen him before
It's like he's known me all my life
"Why are you crying?" the stranger asks
As I wipe away the tears
I point toward the great abyss
The source of all my fears
"I must get across and get to that light
For it represents my only hope tonight
But when I saw the chasm, all that hope was lost
I've spent so long in the dark and the rain
That the sight of the light made my heart sing again
But the gulf's so wide, and there's no way across"
The stranger smiled, and took my hand
He said, "But you are wrong, my friend
You cannot cross the gulf yourself, that's true"
He led me down toward the edge
And pointed just over the ledge
And said, "Behold, I built a bridge for y ou"
Solo
I cross the bridge toward the light
The stranger saved my life tonight
I turn to try to thank him, but he's gone
A long way to the other side
I'll make my way without my guide
No time to waste, for I must carry on
The bright light shines forth from behind
A door beyond description
Blood and scratches mark the door from ages of abuse
I'm confused no more, for above the door
Is a weathered, old inscription
"All who would see reality, enter the Hall of Truth"
And so I do
III. The Truth Revealed
As I step inside
I can see another mirror
A mirror so bright
That my eyes must turn away
A mirror so high
I start to question all the others
And as I stand there in the Hall of Truth
my heart can only say:
"Show me the truth, I don't know what to believe
For the mirrors all showed something different to me
And my pride has given way to misery
I've spent so long in the dark and the rain
That the sight of the light made my heart sing again
And the stranger built a bridge across for me"
"BEHOLD THYSELF" a voice rings out
in paralyzing thunder
It echoes all throughout the hall
and sends me to my knees
When the voice calls my name
I'm overcome with fear and wonder
As I slowly start to rise
and face the great mirror in front of me
When I open my eyes, I have to close them again
But still the image is burned into my mind...
A face with eyes as black as night
A terrifying sight
The flesh rotting away in sickness and decay
It's mangled by disease
I'm unable to breathe
Tell me what manner of creature this could be
'Cause it's not me
I run away as fast as my feet will carry me
Back to the door leading into the night
Even the storm that almost claimed my life
was better than this
And so I throw open the door and see a man
(The figure of a man)
The stranger from the storm returns again
(To save me once again?)
I see understanding in his eyes
(He's seen this all before)
Maybe he can tell me what I saw behind that door
"Tell me what I saw in the mirror
Before I ran away
Tell me what I saw in the mirror
That face of sickness and decay
Tell me what I saw in the mirror
That left me terrorized
With the lifeless, blackened eyes?
Was it a demon
From the fiery waves?
Was it the undead
From beyond the grave?
Oh the face that I beheld in the mirror
left me paralyzed
Won't you tell me what I saw
in the mirror on this night?"
"The light from the mirror you saw from afar
The Mirror of Souls shows all men as they are
You entered the hall and you asked for the truth
The man that you saw in the mirror was you"
"No! Don't show me the truth
'cause I don't want to believe
What the Mirror of Souls
has revealed unto me
And the face I saw reflected cannot be me
Dying and lost in the arms of decay
I do not recognize the face I've seen today
And if you say that's my face I must disagree"
The meaning of these things I saw:
The mirror is the holy eyes of God
The truth unveiled before me
with these words of the stranger:
"The mirrors you saw in the hall long ago
Were mirrors of lies, not reflecting the soul
When you look unto others to see what they see
You see an illusion, deception, false reality"
I have seen my soul in the mirror
And it has broken me
I have seen myself so much clearer
Than I had ever seen
"Can't you take away all this sickness
from my soul and set me free?
You can save me...I believe"
And then he said, "Arise, my child
our faith has made you reconciled
Now gaze into the Mirror once again"
We walked together through the door
And I looked in the glass once more
But the only one reflected back was him
Somehow the only one in the mirror saw was him
Gazing in the Mirror of my Soul
Staring at the man who took my place
and made me whole
In the Mirror
The Mirror of my Soul
You're a blessing already.
Thank you
There's enough lyrics here to fill multiple albums, wow.
Man this song is just so good
@@irwinrommel2099 A masterpiece
why have I never heard of this band? I'm a metal head and Christian and they started when I started listening. And I like Rush.. what the heck man.
A musical video or even a movie made to this song could be the greatest one ever.. :)
That my friend would be awesome
Movie: _The Greatest Story Ever Told._
Impressive band. They have a really awesome sound. So sad how bands like this one are buried from the masses simply because of silly categorizations.
+racers115 Turisas? Tyr? One Man Wolfpack?
I’m addicted to this song, literally listening to it at least 5 times a day😅
This music is a refreshing change from the metal the dark metal I grew up with. Gives me hope taking metal in a more positive direction with the knowledge of the past.
Although it isn't my favorite song, I think this is possibly the greatest song ever written.
It's up there for sure!
I can't take credit for this, but I found this excellent breakdown on song meanings and thought it would be good to post here:
This is an incredibly complex song (I'm a Christian Theology major, and I could honestly write a dissertation on this alone), so I'll break it down by pieces.
Part 1:
From:
Listen to the tale I tell
Until:
The world is turned to gold
It's fairly obvious, as the metaphor is explained fully. The mirrors in the hall represent people who know the narrator. They see him as a generally good, righteous man, and this pleases him. He sees himself as the world sees him - as a virtuous man, and he's proud of it.
Part 2
From:
At the end of the Hall of Mirrors
Until:
If I cannot go on, I'll just lay down and die
While this may just seem like a transition to get the narrator to the chasm, it's much more than that.
Part 3
From:
Suddenly, a light I see....
Until:
My lonely heart is shattered and all hope I had is lost
Caught in the storm of sin, the narrator notices a hope, an escape. A light (God) shining in the distance. He runs toward it, at full steam, until he is standing in front of a chasm, separating him from the light. Much like sin acts to separate us from God, the narrator's sense of hopelessness is an important aspect on his road to salvation.
Part 4
From:
I'm startled to feel a hand on my shoulder
Until:
[He] said, "Behold, I built a bridge for you."
His hopelessness allows the Spirit to work through his Humility. Christ's death has built a bridge from man to God, across the Chasm of sin. In this section, Christ also acts as a comforter in the midst of the narrator's distress, highlighting His promises to never forsake us.
Part 5
From:
I cross the bridge toward the light
Until:
You see an illusion, deception, false reality
The climax of the story, if you will.
Part 6
From:
I have seen my soul in the mirror.
Until:
You can save me, I believe"
The final part of the narrator's salvation - confession and repentance. He admits that he is a sinner, and nothing in his power can change that. So he asks Christ to fix it for him.
Part 7
From:
And then He said "arise, my child...
Until
The Mirror of My Soul [end]
This part can be summed up in one word - forgiveness.

And I know that's not your post, so don't feel like I'm attacking you :)
congratulations for your interpretation of the song! God bless you!
Came here as a Dream Theater fan, and now therr are many Theocracy songs in my playlist :P
"not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near." - Hebrews 10:25
Amen, Sunday's the day of obligation for Catholic Christians. Keep going to mass. "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Acts 2:42
My neighbours love this song so much that they threw a brick into my window, so they can hear it better.
want me to kill that fly for you
Lol
I love your comment. Also tried to waive that fly away on your profile picture. Honestly thought it was a fly on my screen.
hello i'm Scott Harvey from Australia i'm a Christian man and I still love listening to heavy metal music like Theocracy great Christian band I like to share my metal music with my neigbours too lol i'm a sharing person so I play my metal with my br window wide open and the volume up loud..never had complaints yet...lol
LOL
I feel in heaven when I listen to this song. Never heard angels singing but it must be something like these guys do.
Yes with guitars and drums also? Lol
@@-Dragon-Master- Yes
I'm a Christian... was just arguing with another Christian whose argument was that they cannot imagine angels singing metal, so it must be of the world. I was like... I can definitely imagine angels singing metal! Can't imagine them singing opera or church music or rapping, does this mean that these music styles are "of the world" now lmao?
I just read the lyrics to this song. It's freaking brilliant. This song should be made into a movie.
This is one of the most amazing songs I've heard, what a masterpiece!
Absolutley beautiful... Brings a tear to my eye how amazing this band is.
hi ok
+alontzedaka Same here man. SO amazing.
Yeah me to 😢 beautyfull thank you
I just discovered this song by pure accident. Wow. It's beautiful.
+Leyrann And now I finally got to reading the lyrics... What a testimony to God.
This song is so epic and beautiful that it made me cry
One of the best songs ever written.
This is not only a song but a story that reaches for u and begs you to listen
"Somehow the only one the mirror saw was him."
Halleluiah! When God looks at me all He sees is Christ! What a glorious Savior!
Sounds pretty conceited to me.
@@crusheverything4449 the heck?
Just an awesome song. Clearly tells how God has been with us through the storms and he will save us ! :)
I'm really new to this band, and somehow this song took my attention, ... yo see my mother language is not English, I knew this song was something else from the first time I hear it, so I search for the lyrics and. I must say, there's no perfection in the world but this song comes really close , what a masterpiece !
WHAT! I listened to this for over 20 minutes? I barely noticed time going.
Mirror Of Souls was recommended in the comments of the song Empire Of The Clouds by Iron Maiden. By this, I'd like to recommend you the Empire Of The Cloud: another masterpiece that lasts over 18 minutes! Keep the music alive guys! :)
Hey man, glad you like it. I think it was me that recommended it, it's cool that someone actually came from Iron Maiden
Never would I have connected these two incredible songs but yeah with the heavy use a piano i can see it.
introspection and reflection, the song, what we should all strive to do to search for the truth
Theocracy's master piece
I have listened to alot of the material this band has done I was praying for a christian band influenced by the greatest progresive metal band on earth Dream Theatre and theocracy now has a 22:30 min song very well done they are the best thing in Christian music bar none.
Same here I love them! Both DT and Theocracy
Temos que divulgar parceiro, essa banda não pode ser esquecida, e te digo mesmo, desejo muito vê-los aqui no Brasil. Em Breve🙏🏾
I love this song, and its pretty important in regards to my own journey to faith, it helped me to see the beauty of the forgiveness Jesus offers us.
Nothing could be more sincere than this.
thank u God for this amazing music than you gift us to see our glory
777whitemetal777 Why are you thanking god, the band made it.
Blisterdude123 All glory goes to God. Even the band knows this.
So what is the point in the band?
Gods not real you silly goose
TheirishGamer_ 98 do you have any evidence for this?
These guys are the real deal. God is also the real deal. Live and Love. 👍💯🤟🙏❤
Halleluja
*THIS SONG IS EPIC!!*
*CHRISTIAN METAL TO OUR LORD JESUS!!*
This band deserves more. A LOT MORE. This song is incredible, a work of art. Essa banda merece mais. MUITO MAIS. Essa música é incrível, uma obra de arte. 🇧🇷
Damn, that upturn at 9:31 always fills me with hope. It's just powerful. Of course a couple seconds afterwards it gets bleak again...but just wow...
this is the power metal of my taste!
The lyrics are very very long and a bit intricated, but the message is wonderful! Each time I get to the end it makes me tear because of the wonderful things God has made for us through Jesus Christ! Glory to him only forever and ever, no one else is worhty of it.
I get that from reading the word, listening to a message, and listening to hly music like this. Do all three, God works through it.
God Bless You, my brother! Stay strong. :)
I've never seen you as a Deviant. Life is to live. As long as you're not harming others, i dont care what you do
singing wolf stay strong my friend !!!
Praise Our god
Yes...only Jesus Christ can save us! The message for a lost, dark, sinful world will always remain the same...even if the instrumental creativity changes throughout the ages!
Remember, Jesus stretches forth His hand to where we are...to lift us up & out of the mire that wants to take us under.
It's a God thing...it's a good thing!
have lost all faith in god and christ. full on straight up atheist ........BUT.. this band still strikes a cord.. this album is AMAZING in every way! so very talented
What an amazing amazing song about the gospel and how we need Jesus. Hits my heart every time.
This song has amazing istrumental parts and lyrics are so amazing of how those lyrics tells what is our spiritual life when we are trying to find God Him self :)
I continuously here parts of this song every day.
The longest song I've ever heard... but it worth the time absolutely
All praise be unto him on high , he truly sees us as we are
Great well balanced music, nothing over powering the other . Good strong vocals, good range. Great message.
Agreed.
This song really helped me with being overly concerned with others views of me. Their all just twisted mirror after all, only One knows who I am.
I'm an atheist too and I fucking love Theocracy. What an awesome great sound! God bless them (oops!)
"I'm an atheist"
You won't be for long if you keep listening to Theocracy. They don't preach. They simply tell you how life is. At some point, you will be convicted. You will convince yourself. It seems that way. That is how the Spirit works. It is that mysterious. No one can really explain it. It simply is, and it is undeniable.
fooser77
You are the kind of Christian that I really don't like.
fooser77 I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that's not gonna happen.
+YuraCura2006 Ok. I respect your opinion. Totally disagree with it, though. I and you won't change each other's opinion. Not gonna discuss it further.
This song takes out the scales from my eyes to see clearly and lucidly that Jesus is my reflection.that his spirit is in my heart and that because of him we are unity with God.because i looked upon the mirror that was when somehow i only saw you Jesus.
This is a true masterpiece, lyrics and music are extraordinary. This is progressive rock at it's best!!!
I wonder if this atually was a Dream of Matt Smith, (the lead singer)....This would have to be my favourite Theocracy song...its epic
You might be right but i personally think it's about the journey you gonna make when you died and go to heaven. Or atleast on your way to God when he will judge you, and if you believe Jesus will be your savior. Thats my idea on what this song is about. A true masterpiece
+Marcelino1098 yeah that's how I interpret it as well, it's interesting how Matt "paints" a picture just with word like its a physical place he has been
My favorite Theocracy song and one of the best ever
This just told my whole story and we have never met! Wow!
They have there own sound but remind of alot of different bands lyrics are very good God bless you
Love this song. The ending makes the entire song worthwhile
Excelente música!!! Brasileiros também sabem apreciar uma ótima música :D
É isso ai irmão, somzasso desses é bom de se apreciar hehe. Fica com Deus!
Weather you're a christian, metal fan or niether, the one thing that I think most of us agree on is that this song is full of pure freaking awesomeness.
I'm still here ❤
I'm very thankful for you guys .
I hope our Good Father will continue His Holy works through your songs .
My all time favourite.. it just capture the whole picture so beautifully... I wish I could hear from you guys.. similar songs like.this...
Story telling at its finest through song.
Letra muito linda ,bela melodia.. enfim perfeito....
letra genial. Fica com Deus, irmão!
Whatever floats your boat. Jesus floats mine.
It doesn't get any better than this...
it might be the greatest song ever made but if not it stands easily next to 2012, hemispheres, close to the edge, rhyme of the ancient mariner, suppers ready and anesthetize as the best epic songs ever made. I really hope their move to atomic fire records will get them noticed more then they are especially outside of Christian circles, there's no way any progressive rock fan or heavy/power metal fan couldn't like this unless they cant handle christian lyrics which is dumb
This is my favorite song!! through every minute, every note, and every line, is perfect... I have to say I´m not a christian, but still great lyrics!
14:37 for one of the best solos in metal history
JESUS CHRIST FOREVER !
I love theocracy they are awesome
Demon Hunter, Becoming the Archetype, Living Sacrifice, Saving Grace, 7 Eyes 7 Horns
What about Sacred Warrior? Rey Parra is my favorite SW vocalist for that band; nothing against Eli...
could you plz add "comas" to the sentence?
I dont know where one band starts and the other begins.
thanks :)
Imperiom Stryper, Narnia, Harmony, Impellitteri, Rob Rock, HB, Mehida, Affector, Menahem, Divinefire, Seventh Avenue, Bloodgood, Mayestic, Vanguard, and Letter 7
Thanks! I will search them now.
Im always open to new bands.
Very long, but VERY BEAUTIFUL SONG, once I got the lyrics the last part always makes me crying... it worth the time listening to it
This again is proof that Christians metal bands are just superior !!!!
Michael Woudberg amento that
Amen to*
Init black metal is the shit
man, God sure did give u a lot of revelation and comprehension!
Theocracy is awesome
I LOVE THIS SONG! It's one of my faves from the album of the same name. At first, when I listened to it, I was like, "How long is this thing," but as I kept listening, the meaning behind it was so wonderful. This particular one gave me pause to look at myself and realize just how fallible I am. Great song, great lyrics.
i know right how awesome is christ
Amen as I am being hit with the Holy Spirit now
This is a really really good song. Almost all of this bands songs are amazing though.
Whoa I thought I AM is their longest piece. Not complaining though.
This song is a masterpiece ❤️🇧🇷
