It’s one thing to look in the Bible for direct teaching on how to pray. It’s even better to look at the Son of God and learn from his pattern of praying. Some of the greatest insights and most meaningful prayer practices that you can apply will come directly from examining how Jesus prayed. He is our best model for prayer, as God our Father invites us to enjoy the same kind of intimacy that his beloved Son experienced during his earthly ministry-we also are the sons and daughters of God.

Jesus prayed, but Jesus prayed differently. Jesus fasted, but Jesus fasted differently. He didn’t do it like the religious people of his time. He didn’t conform to conventional wisdom or predictable patterns. And yet there is so much teaching out there on prayer and fasting filled with conventional wisdom and predictable patterns, seemingly paying no attention to Jesus. He taught extensively on prayer and fasting. He actually prayed nine different prayers and we have them all written down. He lived a secret life of prayer and fasting in public-before our very eyes. In this three week course we will sit together at his feet and learn from Him in ways both theological and practical, mysterious and ordinary, faith-filled and powerful.
