Everything about this song seems so right for these times, from the thoughtful lyrics to the forced march of the beat refusing to let you give up. This is one of my new favorites.
It's exactly because of how bad things can get, that you must move forward That flash of light you see in the darkness won't be there forever, so you must act before it's gone The song feels like someone telling you that it's okay to. You're expected to. It's saying "If you won't make yourself move, I will."
I had a friend in middle school who used to walk with me to the library almost daily after school. We would play songs on the short walk and jam out and be silly. One day he played this. We were young so we didn't stop to consider the lyrics, we just marched exaggerated through the chorus and did funny dances on the sidewalk. After a while we stopped meeting up after school, I got other friends, and we stopped talking. Last year I got a job at Dunkin' and lo and behold, this guy was working there, too. In a fit of nostalgia, I asked him if he remembered that day he played this song, hoping he would, but he didn't. He didn't even remember the song itself. Now this song reminds me of one perfect, sunny day, two kids goofing off and not caring who saw them. It reminds me of freedom and friendship, and the fleeting sensation of all temporary things.
Over a decade ago and it still gives me chills Everytime i listen to this memories of old minecraft lets play flash before my eyes "It seems like its been ages"

I remember listening to this song when I felt that I was completely hopeless and useless. I just messed up something, an opportunity that would’ve been amazing for me and yet when it came down to it, I messed everything up. I remember feeling so lonely and hopeless, that I wanted to give up again recede back into the ocean of not caring, but in time I listened to this song, more and more and I did in fact take a walk. So...so many walks. When I hear this song, it dredges up memories that sometimes yes, scratch deep on my heart. But I look back at how I manage to overcome such adversity and the want to give up and not care about anything anymore and I feel nostalgic oddly enough. It’s a combination of feeling proud of myself and also I suppose...regret. To me, this song doesn’t really represent persevering so much as it is just that moment to escape everything to me, this song doesn’t really represent persevering so much as it is just that moment to escape everything. To still stick around and let your feelings wash away. To take that metaphorical cigarette out and look at the smoke. To look at the rain pouring on the window. To see the all the people passing by. To accept the unrest and the want for it to shut the hell up. To just...get lost in that walk you'd take in your mind. That's what this song is to me. It's...messy. It's complicated. Sorrowful to me. Nostalgia is the most beautiful form of torture after all...
Brings back my teenage memories. Dear 13 year old me, We made it to 23. What you hoped for, we are still hoping on. I wish I can tell you now that you don't need to wait til' life gets better to choose to be happy. Looking back, you were insanely intelligent. I find myself relearning the math you loved. I don't even know how you were able to calculate algebra, geometry, and trig without a calculator. Idk how you solved math problems within seconds...sorry to disappoint that I lost that ability now but I'm relearning. We're going to be a finance and data analyst with econ, can you believe that? I can hear you telling me that's lame but haha...wait til' the part when we tried architecture school. We were decent at it but you'll learn that you're better at managing and supporting the creatives. You will learn to fail big which is something that you looked down on. But let me tell you, I'm grateful that we failed big. It humbled us and you'll learn that failing can move you forward. We sure got that fighting spirit still. Oh, we're living through a pandemic. Kinda wish you never daydreamed about what you would do if the world went on lock down cuz here we are now, living it. And you're literal motto now is "take a walk" to encourage yourself to get back into being active and healthy! But this time again, I wonder where we'll be in 10 years. I wonder if this will be here when we're 33. Til' then, cya soon 33 year old me. I hope when that time comes, our hopes have been answered and we're living that freedom miracle. "It seems like its been ages"
[Verse 1]
All these kind of places
Make it seem like it's been ages
And tomorrow some new building will scrape the sky
I love this country dearly
I can feel the ladder clearly
But I never thought I'd be alone to try
Once I was outside Penn Station
Selling red and white carnations
We were still alone
My wife and I
Before we marry, save my money
Brought my dear wife over
Now I work to bring my family stateside
But off the boat they stayed a while
Then scattered across the coast
Once a year I'll see them for a week or so
At most I took a walk
[Chorus]
Take a walk, take a walk, take a walk
Take a walk, oh-oh-oh
I took a walk
Take a walk, take a walk, take a walk
Take a walk, oh-oh-oh
[Verse 2]
Practice isn't perfect
But the market cuts a loss
I remind myself that times could be much worse
My wife won't ask me questions
And there's not so much to ask
And she'll never flaunt around an empty purse
Once my mother-in-law came
Just to stay a couple nights
Then decided she would stay the rest of her life
I watch my little children
Play some board game in the kitchen
And I sit and pray they never feel my strife
But then my partner called to say the pension funds were gone
He made some bad investments
Now the accounts are overdrawn
I took a walk
[Chorus]
Take a walk, take a walk, take a walk
Take a walk, oh-oh-oh
I took a walk
Take a walk, take a walk, take a walk
Take a walk, oh-oh-oh
[Bridge]
Honey, it's your son
I think I borrowed just too much
We had taxes, we had bills
We had a lifestyle to front
And tonight I swear I'll come home
And we'll make love like we're young
Tomorrow you'll cook dinner
For the neighbors and their kids
We can rip apart those socialists
And all their damn taxes
You'll see I am no criminal
I'm down on both bad knees
I'm just too much a coward
To admit when I'm in need
I took a walk
[Chorus]
Take a walk, take a walk, take a walk
Take a walk, oh-oh-oh
I took a walk
Take a walk, take a walk, take a walk
Take a walk, oh-oh-oh
I took a walk
Take a walk, take a walk, take a walk
Take a walk, oh-oh-oh
I took a walk
Take a walk, take a walk, take a walk
Take a walk, oh-oh-oh
