435 miles range, so probably 300-370 in real world. Progress at the budget ish end. Means we are almost at normal range for ICE cars. Maybe in a few years we might see the first long range EVs.
Mate, range has been solved for a long time. My 2019 EV can drive for 4+ hours on highways (which is the least effective). The few times a year I drive longer than this, taking a 15 minute break is a non-issue. And if you have charging at home (which I _don't_ - but it's still fine) you'll "never" have to fill up your car. If I have more specialised needs, I just use some of the money I save on gas to rent a car. 🤷🏻♂
@@markarmstrong9550 Tesla Model 3. Looking for a larger car now, though - maybe an Opel! I'd like not to have shorter range than I have now, but it doesn't have to be longer either. (Then I would have to pay for batteries I'd use very rarely, and always drive a much heavier car.) I don’t remember my specific winter range - but I live in Norway, and it’s still fine. An organisation tests EV range every winter (and summer), and here are some examples from last year’s test. -2℃ to -10℃, and quite windy. @@markarmstrong9550 I could imagine renting a van when moving house. Would you say that I instead should've been dailying a van these last years because I might need it once every couple of years? Why not buy "the best car for 99% of my car usage" instead? I was trying to throw you a bone, by saying that "perhaps _sometimes_ you need something else" - but I've rented a car 0 times since getting this one… Last year, my wife and I drove from Norway to southern France with the EV full of our stuff - and we had no issues at all. My car _can_ tow if I need it, but if I, for some reason, would have to haul a lot of stuff cross-country, I can imagine wanting to rent a car. (As hauling heavy stuff affects the range quite a lot.) But that's the only scenario I can imagine needing an ICE car. And just like with the moving van, renting it wouldn't be a problem at all! It would cost _way_ less than what I save in gas. Talk to _anyone_ who's had a ~500 km WLTP EV for a while if they have range issues, and I can assure you that almost none of them will complain. Here, in cold and long Norway, `90% of new cars are EVs. That wouldn't be the case if it wasn't "solved". Not saying I would hate more range - but paying more for a much heavier car with 700 km vs. just getting 500 km is _very, very_ niche. We have a 6 hour drive, over the mountains, to visit some of our family. And now we need one 15 minute break to make that trip. **Can you see how it would matter **_very_** little if we could make that drive without a break?** Like, I want that break anyway - it's simply a non-issue. 300 km is great for a little city car you charge at home - but it would be a bit annoying cross-country. Would still work, though!
''Its been struggling to find its identity'' you say in the opening. Dunno what you're on about Roadie. A British company is selling car for a German company that's getting it made by a French company. No identity crisis there. 😆
As much as I'd like to like this, and in many respects I do, it has no personality whatsoever and the comfortable / functional cabin is just not enough to make it anything else than a nice appliance at this point. The vizor grill looks nice on the Astra and Mokka but with this they have iterated it too far and too quickly, I can't see it aging well. I have to give it to the rear end designers though, the taillights look cool, the last Saab 9-5 comes to mind.
But if your comparing it to a Karoq the boot space is awkward and taken up by the inner wheel arches. If you go for a Octavia estate the boot doesn't suit anything heavy. Tried the previous generation and it was unsettled. Also the latest model has even more of a hang over so I'd expect it to be much worse. For me I'll stick with my diesel 23 Citroen C5 aircross which it looks alot like but if I wanted to buy new again Mazda CX5...
Car testers have ruined car boot design… flat load on floor means everything falls out when you park on a hill and you can’t get to the underfloor cable storage because there’s 550l of stuff on top.
