    I bought a NIB Ruger Bearcat 6" barrel, the transfer bar broke in half when dry firing, the gun was sent back to Ruger w/o the cylinder. The transfer bar and a new cylinder was replaced at no expense to me. That is great customer service. I now have a Ruger Bearcat 6" barrel 22LR/22Mag.

      I bought a used Bearcat and sent it to Ruger to have the transfer bar added. The previous owner did not take care of the gun as advertised and Ruger would not send it to me knowing it had issues. They just replaced the gun all together. Pretty impressed with their customer service.

      Silver Vessel I really appreciate it man 👊! I'm not sure what I will do yet. Was just thinking out loud and thinking that I could shorten the videos by doing them separately. I know what ya mean about pulling the trigger on a gun sometimes. It's a rule that whenever an officer hands you a gun to look at, even if you watched him clear and check it, you always check again. Prime and real life example: I along with a few other officers were at the magistrates office. One officer had a suspect in custody and was filling out paperwork. One of my officers wanted to show me his tricked out AR'S and removed the magazine, opened the bolt to check the chamber, let the bolt go and handed it to me. After it was handed to me, I opened the bolt and a live round went flying through the air, landing in the floor close to the arrested subject....The room became quiet and very awkward and embarrassing! My officer said "You saw me check it!" I said "No, I saw you open the bolt, not actually check it." What had happened was, he had a round chambered but the bolt was not fully seated or closed. When he opened the bolt and let it ride home, the bolt fully seated which engaged the extractor on the case rim and when I opened the bolt, the round was extracted properly. He learned a valuable lesson that night!

    Sounds like your problem was something called "transfer bar pinch". With the gun empty, pull the trigger all the way back and hold it there. Now look at the top of the hammer and see if there is a gap between the top of the hammer and cylinder frame. If you DO see a gap then the problem is still there. Watch the gap while allowing the trigger to move forward. If the gap closes, this means the transfer bar is being pinched and it will break again.
    If you DON'T see a gap while holding the trigger all the way back then you're probably good to go.

    • @Bluelightbandit
      @Bluelightbandit  7 років тому

      P.B. Theriver I have read about the pinching in different articles as well but didn't really know how to check it. Appears mine is still being pinched, which sucks! Thanks very much for the information! I will probably call Ruger after the holidays to get their take on it. If I had to guess, I bet they won't fix it unless it's actually broken.

    • @jeffreyelliott622
      @jeffreyelliott622 4 роки тому

      Well I have the Colt Cowboy Colt.45 revolver and when I do this method of pulling hammer back and squeeze the trigger while slowly riding the hammer down I do still see a very small gap where the firing pin would strike the primer and I believe there's gonna be somewhat of a little gap anyway because I've fired this .45 revolver about 20 rounds and no issues of breakage but I'll keep an eye out for that if it becomes a problem and now on my SAA .45 when I do this the firing pin remains protruding out towards the primer area of a bullet but there is still a very small minute gap there as well but not as big of a gap as is with my Colt Cowboy model that has the transfer bar safety system !!!! I believe the firing pins on the revolvers that has the transfrer bar safety systems have a shorter firing pin which may become a problem to parts breakage who knows but so far mine has been functioning proper !!!

      The only handgun I have is a Glock.40. I really like they way the Springfield 9mm looked. It had a satin finish with pretty handle. But they want $900 plus taxes. There isnt much to choose from these days unless I venture far outside the Bay.

    • @Bluelightbandit
      @Bluelightbandit  7 років тому

      David A Thats an average price for the next tier of handguns, moving up so to speak. Not saying that the Springfield is a better gun than a 550 dollar Glock, just that it has more aesthetic appeal, bells and whistles and stuff. People like Purdy Guns!

    • @davidaaa6427
      @davidaaa6427 7 років тому

      Bluelightbandit
      Its a nice 9mm. Isnt the 9mm more accurate than a .40? I know the person doing the firing has alot to do with it but just in general?

    • @Bluelightbandit
      @Bluelightbandit  7 років тому

      David A Not really a factor. The .40 will drop more over distance traveled but it's irrelevant really. I own several different calibers in handguns like .22lr, .380, 9mm, .38 special, .357 magnum, .40, .44 magnum and .45 auto. You can argue which is the best caliber to carry for EDC all day long and has been beat to death for many years. Most law enforcement carry .40's. which is a great round. I choose to carry a 9mm for EDC (Glock 26). The actual frames of the Glock 26 (9mm) and the Glock 27 (.40) are EXACTLY the same size (sub compact, baby Glocks) so why do I choose the 9 over the .40? First of all and probably the most important reason for me is that the 9mm has less recoil than the .40 which means faster double taps and follow up shots. It's also a more manageable cartridge to fire effectively while under stress. You may be more apt to Jerk the trigger with the .40 if you're recoil sensitive. You can get magazine extensions so you can obtain a full grip but youre giving up concealment advantages. Without an extension, I can only fit 2 fingers on the grip but I'm fine with that and can shoot it all day long because I'm used to it. 9mm can carry more rounds. 9mm with good ammunition is a proven round to stop a threat. Shot placement is key, not bullet size! The .40 is a high pressure cartridge where the 9 is not. That just means that there is a bigger explosion basically going on in your gun which means that parts will wear out faster and increases the chance of a malfunction. There are more pros and cons for each caliber but the ones I listed are the most in important IMHO. Like I said, I have several .40's including sub compact Glock, compact Glock, full size Glock, full size Beretta 96 and a full size Smith and Wesson 4006t but from training, research and experience, I prefer to wear my 9mm. Also, the g27 .40 that is the same size as my 9, I can only fit 2 fingers on it as well BUT I have no problems firing it and am quite proficient with it. The main thing to remember David, is whatever you choose to get to carry, you need to train, train, train and train some more with it. Not necessarily shooting it all the time (which would be great) but practice drawing the gun out of your holster and getting on target. Dry firing the hell out of it is also good practice that doesn't cost anything, it gets you used to the trigger break. That's why I asked you earlier what you were wanting the Springfield for. My answer depended on what you were going to do with it ie. Just shooting at the range, EDC, leave in the car or keep it on your nightstand. My nightstand gun is different from my EDC. I have a full size Glock 21 .45 caliber with a Surefire light on it that I sleep beside of. I also have that shotgun I made a video for you close by my bed. I hope some of this has made sense and has been somewhat helpful. I wouldn't spend this much time giving away this free knowledge for just anyone lol. My fingers are about to lock up from typing on my phone. Let me know if this helps or if you have anymore questions.

    I got to draw and shoot 2 Vacquero’s at the same time. It was quite an experience. Although there was one problem doing it, my left hand shots hit the right side of the target and the right hand shots hit the left side of the target. I was cocking and shooting as fast as I could and I could see what was happening and did manage to bring the shots back to Center.
    I likened it to wing mounted machine guns where the rounds would coalesce 300 yards or more out. But my target was 7’ away and the rounds probably crossed each other at 6feet. I only got to do it twice, 24 rounds total. I could do that day after day if the 38 specials we were using were a little bit cheaper

Most of these people would probably prefer to have Ruger ship them a new bar. Many also install the lower and wider Super Blackhawk hammers. The first thing I did with my pair was to install lighter springs, the Blackhawk hammers, and fit the transfer bars to eliminate the "pinch" that might break the bars.

When something like that breaks, there's a problem and I was hoping they would have fixed the problem instead of just replacing the bar. Im not sure what I will do if it breaks again. Probably depends on how many projects I've got going on at the time. Maybe down the road I will mod it like you did yours.

Then with your thumb push forward on the hammer until it contacts the frame (the firing pin spring will hold it back, otherwise). Now release the trigger while holding forward pressure on the hammer. If the fit is right, the trigger will go forward and you will hear the click of the transfer bar re-setting. If the trigger stays back, the bar is being pinched between the hammer and the frame. The cure is to remove some material until the bar will freely move with the hammer all the way forward.

      Yeah, I checked that after a viewer had mention the same thing and unfortunately it still pinches. I wish that they would have addressed this at the factory since it's obviously a problem.

      Farmer Dude357 Unfortunately, I didn't have much of a choice. I have a pretty full plate and can't seem to get anything done as it is, much less adding something else to the "to do" list. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Samantha Rhymes I have several of both brands. I have a Walther PPK that was made by Smith and Wesson that has been sent back to the factory more times than I care to mention. I love Smith and Wesson but they have their fair share of problems as well. Ruger makes some great weapons.

      Elmo B I wouldn't mind doing instructional videos of shooting, defensive tactics and stuff but I would be opening a door that I don't think I'm quite ready to open yet lol.
