I'm not even a runner (I have, in fact, tried many times to enjoy running, with no success), but I love these videos. Alan's just got a great chill vibe that I really enjoy!

Love the emphasis on comparing to (and often keeping) your current gear!

I used to be a runner many years ago before a major car accident. Didnt think I could again but many surgeries and years of rehabilitation later I wish to start up again and I'm finding all these videos helpful. Thank you so much 😊

For the Arcteryx Norvan SL, That pouch hangs on the washing instructions on the left hand side and therefore you don’t have to worry about dropping it.

I’m with you on not wanting to have to grip anything while I’m running. If I have to hold onto something, it’s almost a guarantee I’ll decide not to bring it on my run. And I am totally guilty of running without a jacket (when I should probably have one) just because I know I will have to take it off and carry it at some point. I’ve never actually purchased a running-specific jacket before, so it’s probably time I get one…

Hey Alan, take a look at the Salomon Bonatti. A few ounces heavier than the Houdini, taped front zipper, packable, nice hood and waterproof. (so they say) Also for a running rain jacket to look at is the Patagonia Storm Racer. Made to go over the running vest, which is how I usually wear my wind or rain jackets bc it's easy on/off and I can still keep racing while doing either. The Storm Racer has a kind of "bib" to aid the user to access the front vest water bottles / food etc... My running partner loved it for UTMB and Hellgate (poured for hours) this year. Great videos by the way.
    I'm over at #168.

Also, I don't carry my jacket. you half unzip it, roll it down into a flipbelt position, tie the arms and wear it like a skirt.

My favorite layering jacket of all time is this no-brand $26 thing I got at Macy's years ago. It kills me I cut the tags out. It breathes, squishes down the size of a phone, weighs nothing.

What made you pick it over the regular houdini? Trying to decide between the two.

    • @cannibalmanimal2336

@@JAH1139 it’s more versatile, the regular Houdini is great, but I’ll only wear it running on very cold days due to the lack of breathability. I have the OG Airshed, & the Pro, & I’ll grab either one for running, & quite often hiking as well, since the Pro has a more durable body material than the OG. It’s fine for any low output activity for me at 60°f or cooler. For more static activities in chilly, windy temps the Houdini is golden, but the Air blocks sufficient wind, and breathes better, hence the extra 70-80 bucks. I don’t have one since I already own well enough for cold running. On real cold sub freeze days the Houdini will work depending on the layering, but I’ll still grab my Storm Racer since I can open up the whole chest panel to let cool air in if needed. With the SC I usually need very minimal insulation even on a cold day, no more than a cap air or long sleeve tee.

The Airshed (Pro or OG) may be the ticket. Both are way more breathable, while letting in a bit of cool air to keep it airy

Does REI now stand for Running Equipment Inc? It seems like it with so many videos focusing on running and so little content on any other outdoor activity for the past year.. You sell drysuits and other cold water paddling gear, how about a good cold water safety video for early season kayaking? I don't recall seeing any winter camping or mountaineering videos, nothing about snowshoeing or skiing this winter... It's just running, yoga, van campers, and turning camp into the local yuppie cafe.

Go to REI's YT page and click on playlists. At a glance, it shows 68 videos on their "Ski, Snowboard & Snowshoe" playlist which looks like their largest playlist by far.

@@westieclo With the most recent video being from a year ago... The last several months have been all running and yoga, with a few cooking and van camping videos.
