I know this wasn't the focus of the video, but it's also worth mentioning that corporate acquisitions come with "restructuring", which usually means downscaling, a.k.a. lay-offs, cancellations, staff being relocated to other projects and key talent quitting because they dislike the new management. Jason Schrier, in his book "Blood, Sweat and Pixels", documented how Lucasarts Games had been working on Star Wars 1313 for many years, only for Disney to cancel the project and shut the studio down shortly after buying it. They wanted to focus on making new Star Wars films, and 1313 had been in somewhat of a development hell, so they didn't think it was worth it. Years of work - gone. I suggest giving the book a read; it's pretty good, and that chapter was really sad and personal, like a eulogy for this cancelled game...
It's a good point and I would like to be able to cover more stuff like that in the future I intend to make videos closer to 20-25 minutes though I'm still learning and improving on my script writing and things as I've never done anything similar before this channel (editing and thumbnails I had pretty good experience with) so I'm still trying to learn how to do things faster and more efficient with my really busy schedule. Also Star Wars 1313 really did sound like it had a lot of potential and I do agree restructurings like that should have been brought up especially as I did briefly touch on the changing of management but not in any significant way. I really enjoy and enjoyed researching this one I was a little sad I didn't have enough time to do more.
As a avid game collector I feel scared about a digital only era. I think it is important to own games and be able to not lose old titles or indie games. Keep up the good work! I am really enjoying your videos and love your take on things!
the issue is not physical vs digital, the issue is DRM vs no DRM. consoles are DRM machines that use digital distribution as anotherway to enforce DRM, since its easier for then to control the distribution digitaly, but, by using physical you are still engaging with then in the intended way that is purchasing legit games, they still have an limited number of copies, in some cases the media didnt even containg the full game data and you still have to take care of the games to make sure they wont get rotten wich is a battle that you will lose soon or later. we need to fight for DRM Free distribution instead, gog is a good example.
the issue is DRM, if you purchase an drm free game (eg: gog ) or pirate it, then there is no issue in the media being digital, quite the opposite you would have trouble mantaining your physical media to not rot and probably wouldnt know how to dump it yourself. consoles are an "DRM Box" that use digital media as an enforcement of DRM , but these are the issues not the format. please dont be like the guy who told me i dont really own my copy of the source code of an free (libre) and open source software because i dont have it on a "physical media".
@@igorgiuseppe1862 Well said. To save space in my apartment I sold a lot of my physical copies I will no longer play, and even if I feel like playing them I can softmod certain consoles as well as use Everdrives for others. Im guessing as this gen of consoles pass there will be modders going to exploit said consoles for softmod and homebrew.
This is one of those times where a random channel that got recommended to me for no reason at all is actually good and interesting and I thank youtube for finally doing one good thing in the last... Ever.
Just got recommended your channel and I like it! good luck on getting followers you're doing a good job so far. Also yeah, the megacorporations are getting scary, Tencent by far, league of legends for example has been slowly introducing gacha and stuff like that typical of tencent games, everything is slowly getting worse
Thanks! I try to keep my videos interesting. And yeah the megacorporation's continuing to become part of so many games and being almost unavoidable is what I'm really scared of.

script was good in this one, but why UA-cam hasn't given you the mega algorithm boost is beyond me.
Thanks! UA-cam kind of has but the videos are rarely clicked on

Thanks! I hope that more people can become aware of this before it becomes an even more serious problem.

Underrated
This video feels a lot like a Scott the Woz video. which isn't a bad thing. Keep it up!
Thanks! He's a very big inspiration for my style
Yeah, this is why I don't like digital only. Its never good. It terrifies me actually. Keep up the outstanding work. -M
Thanks! I also don't like the direction of the industry

you can boycot by piracy instead of not playing games...
I mean personally I'm not against it but I'm also not going to publicly advocate for it either...
@@Mikey_2626 as an youtuber you kinda off dont have a choice if you want to keep your account?

Thanks! UA-cam does have some... fun recommendation sometimes lol
we schould start a "development alliance". Want to become a free time developer. We come together supporting each other to withstand Microsoft. 👍
It honestly might be one of the few ways to prevent Microsoft strangle hold on the game industry.

it never ever stops loading, its an endless cycle.
Yeah, isn't Microsoft great!
> "Micro"soft
> Is rich enough to have multiple failures and run a monopoly
Yeah that's a good point
