Honestly wish we got Winter and Kinkajou in book 14. While I enjoy Winter’s growth as a character, I don’t really believe he got to such a high point by himself. Plus I do enjoy a good dynamic between the two.

I love the analysis on Winter, but here is my analysis JUDGEMENT
I actually think Winter would have grown plenty well if he stayed with Moon. His largest character development was during book 7 and yes he did that without Moon but after learning all that I think he would've turned out essentially the same with or without Moon. He would still have the final character development of not being in jade mountain for a while.(And he would definitely still make a scavenger cage with Moon around)

Thank you SO MUCH JMA for making a Winter meme episode. I’m one of the (very few) winter fans who appreciate that Winter is acknowledged as a great character.

Winter is the best, I LOVE HIM. He is significantly more developed than a lot of WoF characters.
2:48 in Winter’s defense, Peril didn’t directly deny any of his accusations that she was at Possibility to cause harm, and given Peril’s reputation AND that Winter just interfered with Scarlet very recently… it’s understandable that he’d choose the “strike first questions later” approach on her.

Thing with Winter is that, just like Tsunami, we see his character development arc in his book, then he becomes a jerk right next book again 😂 Not that I don't like him, though. I love both Tsunami and Winter and that was just another thing I found funny about them.
Tsunami and Winter would’ve probably been some of my favorite characters in the entire franchise if they continued with the character arcs they had going for them by the end of their books
I don't think he went back to before his character development after his book - we just lose access to his interior monologue, and can only judge him by his actions again. He is far, far more mellow by the time book 14 rolls around compared to how he used to be when he was first introduced, so I think the arc is still intact. It's just harder to see from the outside (which is a great lesson these books carry).
Agreed, Tui has a bit of a problem juggling characters when it's not their POV; just look at Flames of Hope if you need an example.
@@SilverScroll It's not entirely untrue in my opinion, but thing is even when you try to read Winter's book objectively, after you've read it and you read the next one you KNOW he has changed but not to the point you would expect him to, especially since the racism problem is most-likely clarified for him...

I absolutely agree with your points about why Winter and Moon are better off apart. Winter was only just learning about how to be a good friend in arc 2, I can’t imagine things would go well with the additional expectations, pressures, and stresses that could come from a romantic relationship. And after having nearly finished book 14 I can definitely say his little gap year in studying scavengers has been excellent for him. Forget the shipping wars, let Winter be the eccentric academic he deserves to be.

I know this is kind of an old topic but I still think Winter and Lynx would make a good couple. Lynx just has zero fear when telling her peers the hard truth and I feel like that’s exactly what Winter needs in a mate.

This is exactly what I thought. Winter needs to be with Lynx. Though its so dumb, cus after Arc 2, Winter just basically vanished. The most we get of him in Arc 3 is a reference to him, but other than that he's gone. WE NEED LYNXTER STUFF.

Lessons with Kalimba:
Winter is... troubling, to say the least. Whenever he has a lesson together, he always requests to play some song at the end. It was... I don't remember, something to do with stars and snow. And he would always break down crying in the middle of the song, and I always have to calm him afterwards. I don't know what to do, he seems like he needs therapy. Maybe I'll send him to Clam, she can probably help him.

I think Lynx or Kinkajou would be a good ship for him, because unlike some... other ships those two are not be afraid to stand up for themselves when dealing with other people's BS. (Plus I am just so tired of every other fan arguing over Moonbli vs. Winterwatcher, it was a poorly handled love triangle.)

@@foxe323 I get that. I think both Turtle and Kinkajou are good friends, and I totally understand why people ship them. But for me, well, the whole love spell subplot never sat right with me. It added this weird consent/agency implications that I couldn't quite get over, even after the spell was ended. I still think it's a decent pairing, it's just not in my top 10 for those reasons.
