Buena Mulata is one of my favorites, I grow them every year and yes, the plants aren’t that big, but I always get high yields here in Northern IL. Tasty pepper with a nice kick of heat.

These are great as an alternative pepper in @peppergeek jalapeño sauce recipe! I added a carrot and used red onion, really good 😋 I am in panhandle NE and I too did not get a large plant but a large production.

I grew Buena Mulata also. My main complaint with them is that they take a lot longer to get ripe than other Cayenne-family peppers. This is a common issue with other purple peppers too, as purple (along with green, black, and white) is usually an unripe color.

I have been growing a purple pepper for years. It's called a 7-JPN Light. It ripens to a orange brown and has a nice heat. Grows tall and always yields well here in the front range of Colorado. I also grow the Buena Mulata for ornamental and give aways (it's an ok pepper I like them for flakes).

Black Hungarian is a stunning plant that I grew the last two years. Purple flowers, dark purple/black before ripening and then dark red when ripe. The plants don't seem to be too fussy either. I haven't grown any other purple varieties, though I would love to. Most of the ones that I research are either too hot for me or say that they don't have much flavor, and I don't like to grow bells because I have limited space and their production is too low.

I've grown Hungarian Black the last 2 years, which worked out pretty well. I previously grew Czech Black, which ripen to a lustrous garnet color and are quite sweet, medium heat; the only problem with them is they are thin-walled and don't keep well so they have to be eaten or processed fairly quickly. I think the Hungarian Black did better in this regard.

Every Year since I found them at Baker Creek I've grown the Murasaki Purple pepper. its a mild pepper with pretty good vigor, and it looks really similar to the Da Neyde, so its probably a more recent cross from it. Easy to grow, productive and pest free in my experience.
We also tried out the Jigsaw from Baker, it had a really attractive variegated foliage, however once it came time for ripe peppers they were too small and too hot for our preference. Its probably more suited as an ornamental.

We love feeding the birds here which can attract lots of grackles and starlings and even a few deer. I put my seedlings out in the sun over the last week and had a few curious pecks on them. should I be concerned at all about them bothering the peppers or tomatoes? I'm keeping them on the deck, so the deer shouldn't be a problem.
