Very common issue to this board, Thx!
can you upload the boardview file and schematic for the 820-00687
Google (820-00687 badcaps forum boardview ) www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=820-00687+badcaps+forum+boardview
Where do you get the board view from?
i think they should implement a thin fan inside to cool the cpu ,it will be smart and innovative
I agree. This model needs a better solution for heat dissipation. We've had a large number of these come through the shop with the same issue, so it's not an isolated problem.
Really people get frustrated of this problem , as it was unrepairable and feel like “ what is this apple you cheated me “ , it’s really disgusting why apple didn’t test fully before release of this product
It's done on purpose by apple.
hi nice video, what is the issue with this machine that it has a non repairable CPU?1:10 AM IN NORWAY.
The machine overheated and fried the CPU as there is no fan in these units to cool the CPU. You could replace the CPU and we will likely post of video in the near future, but those CPU chips currently are pretty expensive and hard to source.
thanks very much for the reply, now i can understand with you why you call it as no repairable board, thanks for shareing your ideas.
My MBr 12” 2017 just had a failed USB port, the charge, USB 3.0 and display functions still work but not USB 2.0, so, for example, plugging in an iPhone doesn’t work.
After changing the internal flat flex cable Apple have told me it needs a new logic board as they say they don’t do component level repairs.
Problem is, they won’t give you back your old board, they recycle it, by doing the component level repair you wanted, but charge you for the full logic board.
Unless you’ve securely erased it, someone else will have your data.
Most likely your issue is one we could repair. Its probably one of the MUX chips that switches the usage of the USB-C port. It tells the board what is being inserted into the port and decides where and how much power it needs.
@@PowerbookMedic I don't have the schematics for the 820-00687, but I do for the 820-00244 and if it's a similar design, I agree it's the USB-C chip's USB 2.0 top/bottom mux, U3100 CD3215A in my schematic.
I don't do Mac repairs, but I am an EE with a pretty decent rework setup, and can do BGAs, but I wouldn't want to approach this without the right schematics and layout, and know I had the right device: I've read that there are different revisions of the CD3215.
What I was hoping was that they'd give me the broken board back so I could try my had at repairing it as an academic exercise, but it seems they expect to keep the board for their own rework.
In the meantime I bought a 2nd hand Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 for peanuts in need of TLC, and servicing it is a piece of cake, with service manuals, removeable SSD, as $35 replaceable keyboard, both of which I've done, works a treat.
I only have Macs to work on compatibility with the devices I design and to develop any drivers necessary, OS X is not my daily driver, I'm 90% a Windows guy with daliances into Linux and OS X as required.
I suspect the reason the USB 2.0 port broke was during one of my device's hardware tests. The Mac's port shows up as a 0.7V diode clamp to ground on D+ and D-, top and bottom, when presented with a standard 1.5k pullup to 3.3V for device presence detection, it should be around 3.0V at that point.
Thanks for the video by the way!
Hello,, is it possible recover data from this Macbook 12? Macbook doesnt works and cant not turn it on.
If it suffers from this CPU issue, then in order to recover the data you'd need to replace the CPU. Those CPUs are pretty expensive so we don't offer the repair. If the data was incredibly important you could possibly find someone to change the CPU for you however. (Assuming that is the issue with your unit.)
@@PowerbookMedic so this is gonna be a issue with all the new MacBooks I guess
Fuck. The temperature is high at the air station and there is a lot of air flow! You will blow off all the chips. You can't work like that !!!
Just what I was thinking. I don't think its a good idea to be 'practicing' on a customers board that wants data repair. Unless he knows you aren't experienced in SMD removal, reball and replace, especially Apple. I was expecting the CPU to popcorn
Hy , is possible to help me with schematics 820-00687-A and board view file ? or where to buy ? Thanks a lot
Hi! Tell me please, you find boardview? i need it too.
salut, foloseste 820-00244 ca referinta, din pacate nu exista boardview/schematic pentru 687. numai ca voltajele par sa fie altele ex: PP3V3R3V0_AON pare sa fie 5v pentru 687 la 244 e 3.3V
so in other words.... its drawing amps... and cpu is gone...
This is nothing less than a deliberate design flaw by apple. With all the apple know how you think they didn't see this coming? You think they didn't put a fan in by mistake?.... Hmmm.
