Just discovered your channel today, looking at your kitchen it’s almost the same as mine, except I have the tower oven suggested by the guy from Bunnings when I replaced my 1961 commission home kitchen, I just put wooden chopping board on bench to put anything from oven onto, as have newly retired and am only 5ft tall, we even have same bench top am now binge watching all your posts, loving them, cheers from Gippsland 🇦🇺

Hi, it's great to see a Kiwi on youtube. I've watched American and English versions of what you are doing but it's really nice to be able to follow you on your journey because I can relate more to the cost and type of food available. 😊

Hi Kate, nice to meet you virtually (fellow kiwi here, looking for inspiration, on a mission to save money this year). I was thinking all that food would be at least $350, wow, you did well. Subscribed to enjoy more of your videos ❤ and to support a kiwi too.

Hi Mel, thanks for supporting my channel! This haul probs would be $350 now, looking at how prices have risen 🙄 But am hoping to do some more food/meal budgeting content this year. We are all in the same boat hey!

@faithhopeandlaundry Hi Kate, sorry for the delay replying, this head cold has got me.
Our food prices are super crazy expensive and no petrol going up again, grrr.

Have you seen *FARMER'S Wife Homestead* ? She was a single Mom and a caterer for a while. She has fantastic tips for food budgeting, recipes and meal planning, she's a Kiwi too. You're amazing by the way!
Do you grow any food? One of my staples is perennial spinach, so easy to grow, means you always have a handful of green, if you need it. Another I love is finding vegetarian recipes that are scrumptious, vegetarian nachos are so incredible, we use chickpeas instead of mince. There are also so many incredible ideas to save money on UA-cam, (aquafaba mayonnaise?!!!). Hope you have a WONDERFUL Christmas. Cheers

Hi Storm, thankyou for your lovely comment! Yes Stacey and I know each other through our youtube channels and journeys. She is helping so many people with her content hey, which is so cool. I have tried this year to grow bits and bobs, but really would like to set up a proper area in my very small garden for veges. Will see what next year brings. We love vegetarian enchiladas in my household and it is such a cost effective way to bring down the food bill hey. Maybe ill do a video on some family and cost friendly vegetarian dishes :-) Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!

I love grocery shopping trips from other countries, it really makes you understand the culture right? I'm from Germany but I live in Japan now and love exploring the supermarkets here! 😍

I remember how hard it was to stick to a grocery budget when my kids were teens. Of course, teens aren't as motivated to eat less processed or cheaper items. They want those popular, tasty items over meat/starch/fruit or veg 3x a day. My kids are all adults now. Only 2 currently live at home. Once they started working part-time, I started a rule. If they didn't like what I bought, they could purchase their own foods/snacks for themselves. It helped a lot! I haven't had to really increase my budget since 2020, even though prices have skyrocketed. We currently spend $1100/month on groceries, including hygiene & cleaning products.♥️🇨🇦

I have found that sometimes it is cheaper to buy the smaller bags of sugar (and make up to the weight you are after)if they are on special.

Absolutely, this is a great way to save a little if you look at cost per 100g rather than the price on the label in general hey

Wow, you are doing amazing! I have struggled to keep it under $500 a week. Our biggest meat saving here in NZ we have found is buying Chicken Breast on special to mince ourselves can save up to $6 per kg doing it this way.

    • @faithhopeandlaundry
      @faithhopeandlaundry  4 місяці тому

Hi Anissa, its tricky hey because the way to keep things more cost effective means that we have to sacrifice convenience. It is time consuming to buy chicken meat and then to have to mince it. So it takes forward planning and a time sacrifice to be able to keep costs down, and these days it is time that we are all short of! So you are doing amazing! Thankyou for that tip.

Hi from Canada 👋🏻 I stock up on ground beef (what we call beef mince) when it is $3.99/lb. So your package would cost me $6.58 CAD, $8 NZD. It is interesting to see how prices compare in different places! Ground beef is a staple meat for my family, we can’t afford to buy more expensive cuts! We are a family of 8 on a single income. I think the total cost of your haul would be pretty similar for me here.

Hi Kim, thankyou for taking the time to watch my videos. Beef of all kinds is a staple here as well and its very versatile, so thats helpful in this current economical climate for many families.

In Australia at Woolies ours is 3 packs of meat for $15 and chicken mince is currently just $5.50 a half kilo.
Half a kilo of beef mince is $6.50 and a kilo is $11 for the same as yours 13% fat
Pork mince is $6 for 500 grams or $8 for 800 grams
The nut bar pack is $6 but half price often same with shapes, normally $4 but last week they were $2 a pack
Necafe box of Cappuccino is $11
2 kg of flour plain is $2.70 we dont have bigger bags than that
2 kilos of white sugar is $2.85 and 3 kilos is $4.25 we dont have 1.5 kilos here but for 1 kilo its $2.00
cat food prices have jumped here a 12 pack of sachets cost $14.50
Purina one urinary care cat food 12 pack is on special this week for $13.50 saving $3.50
egg prices are up so its $5.00 for the basic cage free dozen and then more expensive if buying free range which can go up to $9.00
Cheese prices are insane. For a kilo block of tasty cheese is $9.50 and $9.50 for 700 grams for grated and these are just the Woolies brand.
I shop for 3 adults for breakfast lunch and dinner for 7 days and have also 2 Chihuahuas and 2 cats where I buy a chicken mince 2kgs foir $11 that they all eat.
But my shopping after buying meat, meals for the week, toilet rolls , cat biscuits and dog biscuits etc including snacks usually cost me anywhere between $200 and $250.
Our meals are simple including things like, spaghetti Bolognese, stir fry chicken Hokkien noodles, butter chicken and rice, Shepard's pie, Stew Chilli con Carne over jacket potatoes
Lasagna to name a few. Bearing in mind this total was only $120 two years ago .
    Hope this helps, Rachel xx

Wow....i kept hearing about how expensive your groceries are and how high the cost of living. But I am an American living in the Pacific Northwest area of the USA. Those groceries would cost, probably at least $300. A 10 lb bag of flour similar to that would cost about $8 for a middle of the road brand. Meat is very expensive right now. A pound of ground beef or mince I think you call it, is around $8 a pound. 5 years ago you could have got it for $5 a pound. Another point is that yes, perhaps if you shop at a very cheap place around here like a Walmart you could get cheaper brands of all of those things and save maybe a hundred bucks but the quality is just garbage. Like you talked about a 2 lb block of cheese being so expensive at $6... That would be the super cheap brand here. A nice block of cheese would cost $8 or $9/kg easy and a fancy block of cheese could cost $12 a pound. So honestly, I feel your groceries are quite affordable and I have a feeling that the quality is so much better. It just seems the entire world has gone through this massive inflation since covid and everybody is paying so much for groceries and everything. I hear people complaining all over about how expensive cost of living is. This really helps put things into perspective, thank you for sharing. It's also very interesting and wild to me that your meat and dairy is so expensive when it is local because I've heard that all of your groceries are so expensive because of shipping. Very baffling that your local goods are the spendy ones!

Hi Kristina, thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reply! Yes I think it baffles most New Zealanders as well, as to how you could go to the UK or another country and get NZ lamb or NZ dairy products for cheaper than what we get it in NZ!
