Nice video, love the intro. I have a 35 Whelen in a pump Remington. It was a 270 and I had it reamed out and rifled. Shoots fantastic. When asked I tell them it kills from both ends. Please don’t give the haters much time. Hope to see more interesting projects. Love the content and your spirit, Merry Christmas
I have the same gun and caliber with a muzzle brake. Couldn’t shoot it without but dang it’s LOUD! Enjoy your videos and you sir are a master at your profession. I would enjoy “shop class” with you as my teacher. Keep the videos coming!!!!
I have the same Encore Pro Hunter 35 whelen barrel. Now before I got my barrel threaded for my suppressor that 35 whelen would break almost every optic I'd put on it. But man I love the 35 whelen. I'm having a custom bolt action done up in the 35 whelen.
There's so many ways to do the same thing. People in general just like to complain sometimes. Please don't be discouraged. I'm self-taught and I learn something everyday. I can understand people wanting to share their experiences, but they don't have to be mean about it about it keep doing what you're doing
Good video! You’re a perfectionist in every way. Where did you learn the machinist trade? Military? Tell us a little about your background in a future video. 👍🏻
The only better thing would have been to touch one off without the brake and then one with. It looked like it helped a lot, but that comparison video would REALLY have shown it. My brother's 35 Whelen is unthreaded and it speaks loudly on both ends. Nice job of machining.
Didn't want to shoot it without the break LOL. Did think about it but had used my milling machine vise and machinest level to get it back on and tight and didnt want to take it back off. Thank you for your support.
You go Mr. Red, you are going to have to get some much thicker skin. There will always be negativity, try to remember they forget what their comment was ten minutes after they make it. Don’t even take those comments seriously. Concentrate on the positive comments. Thank you for the video. Watching from Panama City Florida,USA. 🇺🇸🦅 ! No Snow Just Breeze !
Red I have a Lyman Cutts compensator on my 12 gage browning which I guess accomplishes the same thing elinating the muzzle blast and keeps a tighter shot pattern. I've never seen one on a rifle to eliminate kick. Are they made commercially ?
A lot of great tips there, I pick something up in all your videos so far. Speaking of picking something up, , , , (hogs) , , when is yawt going to learn to clean his own guns? 😃👍 he's got some nice ones.
" If I can find someone to pull the trigger" Aw come now it can't be that bad. I shoot a Sharps 74 in 50-90 with a 600 grain lead bullet and I am 66 years old. Not saying it don't hurt sometimes but I can handle it. At the shot you can visibly see the gasses exit out the sides of the brake and the muzzle rise was much less. I think you have suceeded in your mission to build a brake.
I had a buddy that ordered an exact replica. Took him over a year to get it but it was beautiful. That was 15 years ago. Thank you, I thought it turned out pretty good if my oil bluing works,
Amen. I totally agree with your intro. And a very informative vid. I have a question about compensators vs muzzle brakes. For my next build, which will be either a 35 Whelen AI or a 30-06 AI. More so for the Whelen, I’d like to have a muzzle device where the ports are only at the 12 o’clock position. I can’t, however, find such a device, do they exist for rifles? Also, the reasons are two fold. One, I rather not have the concussive force echo into my ears or into anyone besides me. Two, I’d like to mitigate muzzle flip for a better follow up shot (If need be). Thanks for the video and any suggestions to find such a
I started to add some small ports at the top to eliminate jump. The reason I didn't is I thought the flash coming through the ports would temporarily blind me, especially in low light situations. If so it might be difficult to make a follow-up shot. I set my ports at 30 degrees. I drew this out and seemed this was pretty close to having a "jet" effect with the ports and not blowing too close to me. I hope this helps and let me know how you come out. This one kicks about like a 20ga. with light loads.
@ Thank you, sir for the quick and informative reply-a very smart design. While I’ve never even seen a 35 Whelen, their reputation seems very awesome. Thanks for comparison to the 20 gauge. For this build of mine, I’ll likely go with Boyd’s Spike Camp stock with its thumb hole and near vertical grip. I think that will help me better manage the recoil.
I got to say, the reverse picture keeps throwing me off a bit. Good to watch the milling operations true though. I've made a few muzzle brakes very much the same way with similar results, several for FAL's which need a bit of recoil taming.
Me and that blame camera keeps having issues. I think I have it set correctly but will cut it off or change something and don't check it every time and there you go. I'm trying to get better. Thank you for watching.
@@RedRheaWeldingmachining It was a real pleasure, I've mostly got to teaching these days, semi-retired. I still build guns on occasion though. You did a bang-up job on that muzzle brake, very nicely done!

Yes! Thank you!
Never thought about making my own breaks. Going to have to give this a go, thanks for the idea!
Always like to watch a real good machinist like you. There is a lot of years experience under yo belt.
Carry on Red. I love watching. I got away from TikTok so I’m glad to see you again. I’ll be in Church on Sunday!

Looking to build one myself.
Add some smaller vents to the top of the break, and it will help with muzzle rise!
I think the squared off look came out great tho
Thank you.
Amen Red! If it ain't broke, don't fix it
amen , nice work

Good filming, nice lighting. You should go just a little wider and always use manual focus if you don't already. God Bless

Red it's a lot better smell doing this that hog dragging 🤮🤮🤮🥶 God Bless Y'all and have a blessed merry merry Christmas
Well due to a sinus infection, I lost my sense of smell. I think thats why Yawt calls me.

Is that a srerrit edge finder?
I actually don't remember which one I used, I have a Starrett and some others.
A lot of math Red LOL But l am not to savvy when it comes to guns so what is the purpose of the muzzle break? 🤔
The purpose is to reduce the recoil. It directs gases to the rear. It has the same effect as a jet engine. Thank you for watching.
There will haters - sad. Jesus died for them too.
God Bless you Red and another great job sir
