- It's take me a while to film Latigo, but it is one of the best know descents in the Santa Monica Mountains. Gorgeous switchbacks and great strip of pavement winding down a green canyon with an ocean view to top it off.

The sun is out and Safa's on a descent. I click "Like," then watch the video. Ten seconds in, and it's already worth it.
The best part is watching how you choose your lines.., details.
One of my favorite canyons to descend and climb.
Used to ride that road on my Yamaha RD350 back in the '70s, then sit on the beach and watch the sun set into the ocean. Latigo and Decker were two of my favorite roads.
You must have hit the snake too then! Nothing beats chilling on the edge of the ocean after some good riding.

I’m hooked on your videos bro. You understand me lol! I ride road bikes for the love of that downhill speed. I was a mtber for years before ever trying a road bike then once I started hitting that 40+ mph I was hooked too. Living vicariously through yours is pretty awesome! Live up North in Napa. We got some good descents around here, not as long as your huge canyon descents though. Going to try and get some good footage of some descents and maybe I’ll tempt you to come ride out here 😉 keep up the good stuff but be safe out there man. Some of those give me a good scare.

I have a friend who did the Giro d'Italia a number of years ago. He said it wasn't the climbs that got to him, it was the long, screaming descents. Being on the edge that fast, for that long, they were exhausting.
They have some wild ones for sure. If you're not confident on them I can see it being stressful and exhausting.

@@SAFABrian Back in the '80's and early '90's, Latigo was my favorite climb. We usually rode up it and came down Kanaan Dume!
I remember when my breaks went out that one day. A truck flashed before my eyes. Then I struck it, the bike broke intwo. I flew and fell on the road, but no bones we're broke.
once it rained so hard on a descent that I slipped into the opposite lane.. Luckily there was no traffic

@@SAFABrian I probably need more practice. I still like having more narrow tires on my bikes, like 23s as long as you aren't in the rain. The more narrow the tire, the more nimble you are in the curves.
@@shawltraveler9365 Studies show that narrower tires does not mean faster rolling speed or more agility. It's actually the opposite.

Yeah I don't really know the descent well so just taking as fast a line as is safely possible for the situation. My opinion of course.

Yeah I know how you feel, I live in muddy Kentucky. There are barely any good roads to ride a road bike on. There are too many idiots that drive too fast.
I did this descent on Phils Cookie Fondo and i swear I NEARLY ate shit at 7:38. Absolutely terrifying learned very quickly just a month in to NOT abuse the rear brake
I like downhill bike and longboard, the speed is very good, without dangerous would have so fun

Safa B, in terms of becoming a stronger rider, how important are long easy rides over 2 hours, compared to intense intervals lasting less than 30 minutes. As a guy who has very little time due to taking care of old parents.
Short and intense are going to give you better results if you're time crunched but don't forget to get out for a few hours and enjoy the road if you can.

Lion Cohen you can park at the base of Latigo. There are usually a few cars parked there of other cyclists. You can also park on the PCH with the beach goers who don’t want to pay to park.
Those wraps look very comfortable. Soft , leathery?
They're lizardskins, been using this tape on my road bike for years. Very soft and grippy, not so much leathery. You can find it and the other gear I sue through the link in the description.
Do you break sometimes when cornering during descents?
