@@Doug-mu2ev I'd certainly like to expand to more audio products. I'm trying to keep up with headphones and earbuds right now, amongst other content, so I'm trying different workflows and formats to see how I can streamline videos and make more of them so I can expand.
Believe it or not, this video is a different format than in the past, and if it seems to do well, I think I'll be able to increase output a little bit more. We'll see :)

For sure, focus on the products that most people are interested in, that comparison of transparency modes was mind-blowing, would love that for spatialization/virtual surround modes as well!

I try to make videos for the masses, so I'm not one to measure frequency ranges. I'm also a mixing audio engineer, not an audiophile. My interest in frequency graphs are low compared to simply using my ears. There will be plenty of other great creators that will focus on that.

Yeah, there are definitely some trade offs between the two, so it's not clear cut outside of the sound.

I got the Quiet Comfort Ultra earbuds last month, best earbuds I've worn ever.
I'm a Bose user, I can say Bose sound tuning is leaning towards relaxing neutral sound, detailed. meanwhile Sony's tuning is more bassy, like EDM song feels better on Sony. both are well-built imo, my Bose QC35ii is 5 years old and still kicking, my friend's XM3 is also the same and still alright.

I got the quiet comfort the best sound cancellation and fit you can actually work out with it but it just too small for my ears. Surprisingly my favorite so far is the Beats Studio pro

Both have some really great ANC, so if you're trying to find something with good ANC but at a cheaper price than the XM5 and that's what you care about the most, I'd say these are a good choice!
This makes me feel good about getting the XB910n literally yesterday like new for ~$100. The phone call mics are still bad, and the ANC/Transparency improvements + wearsensor are probably not worth the $200 pricetag. If you're worried about the bassy sound signature, you can fix the sound pretty damn well with an EQ.
I might have to get these headphones! Ult1 I feel like I can listen to for a while, but when I want that car speaker bass level feel ill use Ult 2 👍

I'm a long time enjoyer of the now quite old Sony h.ear MDR-100ABN which I have loved wearing a LOT working from home for about 6-7 years (I love the cocoon feeling), but they're wearing out now, sadly. I REALLY liked these for the money. So I'm in the market for replacements - going to stick with Sony specifically for their ANC and the comfort vs sound vs money value.
This is the first I have seen of the new ULT range. Apart from the ULT2 setting (your Honda bass bin analogy is so on point, lol), I think since there's a €150ish difference between the XM5 and the ULT, I'd be happy enough with the latter for sure. From your review, I think the ANC sounds a tad better on the ULT, as does the call quality and also the bass/sound quality with no ULT, and ULT1.
ULT2 is ridiculous.
I hope they still have an app to setup the equaliser which looked great on the various other headphones for the past few years!

I haven't used the XB9 so I don't know.
I own the xm5’s.. I find them muddy and bland. Noise canceling is top notch.
It’s really disappointing since I’ve owned xm3 earbuds for years and they’ve been perfect save some connectivity problems with my iPhone.

Thanks. No plans for a dedicated video, but once I get to a roundup 4 headphone comparison, I plan to include it. Bose QC Ultra, XM5, Momentum 4, and hopefully there's a new AirPods Max for the fourth spot. Just being patient and waiting.
Unfortunately, focusing only on the Sennheiser doesn't have enough demand. The new earbuds video is showing that it's not as popular as I was hoping and I have to work through a lot of other videos first that people want and are more likely to succeed.

Ult because the default mode is at least okay and doesn’t hurt my eardrums in terms of the high end being too much.
I wonder if the issue with the microphone still there or not. Got this issue since xm3 and xm4. If you connect to the laptop, with mic on - for online meeting or gaming mode, the sound becomes really bad quality.
Wondering how they are sound vise, compared to v-moda crossfade 3 wireless. 😊
Have these and find the sound to be great and very customizable. My GF already wants a pair after trying mine out. I had tried the Sony XM4 a few years ago but found they had too many issues to keep them - mainly a crackling in the right ear issue and too fragile with water. I ended going with the Soundcore QC35 which balance quality with value well but ultimately break and aren't the best at ANC or sound (I went through 2 pairs). These may be just as fragile as the XM4 but are more affordable and currently on sale for $178. The ANC is great. The bass boost is fun. No crackling in the ear other than the leather earcups shifting a bit. I think the earcups look a little ridiculously big and the clamping force is a bit more than im used too. I also think that seal allows the better ANC and possibly more sweating. Overall I think Im going to keep them because they make me excited to listen to my favorite songs and new ones.

This was a fantastic, unique platinum review style for these headphones! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I'm impressed.
At first glance, the ULT Wear seemed to me more of an alternative upgrade to the WH-1000 XM4's - with the exception of a somewhat downgraded shell, is exactly what I originally wanted the XM5's to be in the first place! Why not continue the foldable design since it was so well done with the previous gen flagship? I may need to get these for work so I can leave my precious M4's at home! 😂

The ULT Wear reminds me of my MDR-XB950N1's with the Bass-Effect button, I loved those headphones but I soon after went ahead n got the WH-1000XM4's and haven't looked back since, was introduced to LDAC and haven't been the same since. Now recently picked up the WH-1000XM5's and I can confidently say they're a step up from the XM4's and really enjoy using them.
Btw ULT1 is alright, still like that kinda rumble bass but ULT2 is ridiculous 😂 Sony shouldn't have added that!
Thanks for the great test! I feel like the ULT Wear is a decoupling of Sony’s XM line. Tbh the ANC and standard profile seem great. Even ULT1 is good for bass heads. I expect the XM6 to be a new, higher tier product designed towards the 500-700 price point - going after the AirPods Max, BW PX8 and Focal Bathys.
Can’t forget the Bang and Olufsen’s 🔥
That transparency mode on the ULT is sounding really good for a pair of $200 headphones (Not Apple or Bose level, but still good). It actually sounded a bit better than the one on the XM5 to me.
That being said, I think you should check out the Crusher ANC 2 to see how they compare to it.

Simple if you like to be in a car with a subwofer if yes get them if you like more balance then don't get them

The better question is whether Sony is addressing the XM5's issues with comfort and sound. The sound felt unbalanced for me. It didn't satisfy me. Also, it hurts me to wear them very quickly on my head. This is why I switched to the Momentum 4 but the Momentum 4 is relatively heavy and I need to use an adapter to get aptX Adaptive on all devices. LDAC has a wider spread.
And wait a second, Sony released the XM5 last year. The XM4 launched 2020, the XM3 was released in 2018. Why do you assume a release of the XM6 this year?
@ThisIsTechToday I'm still acknowledging the XM4's, bought them and felt like a week later the XM5's where announced and two weeks later people are asking for the XM6!! 😂
How would you compare them to xb910 extra bass? Which one would you suggest one should buy between the two?
With ULT off, these sound decent. What I am waiting on are your EQ settings for these. Or is it too much bass even at ULT 1?
They're decent with them off. I'm not sure if I'll spend time on the EQ for these. If there's enough demand, I might, but it takes me about a week or so to tweak and tune, and I'd rather make more reviews of all the other products coming out right now/that I have.

The XM4 has a copper logo that looks neat and aesthetically pleasing.
If sony won’t release their xm6 this year imma go with the XM5. Not really a base head. But boy the calls and nc/transparancy is solid on the ULT. 😍 Maybe I might wait a little longer till the xm6 drops. 🤔

The ANC test sounded like ULT is performing better in this area. Is that your subjective experience of using them? I really only care about noise cancelling performance and was about to buy the xm4s, but now I’m wondering if these are actually superior for noise cancelling. How would you rank xm5, xm4 and ULT purely in terms of noise cancelling?

@@smdjuhurr9474 Yeah, I ended up buying XM4, I ended up having to swap them for the ULTs because one of my ears sticks out too much and I was getting pain, but I definitely felt like the XM4s noise cancelling was superior. I was really bummed out to have to return them. ULTs aren’t bad though.

I'm glad I saw this video. I thought this would be good for metal, but I guess it isn't. What would you recommend for someone who likes bass boosted metal? I have the old model WH 1000XM2B - they are good, but I'd like it even better.
Try Sennheisers, I have a Momentum 4, and it has a detailed sound with nice mids for heavy guitars, and slamming bass that doesn't overshadow the other frequencies. Treble is also better than on any Sony and Bose I have ever tested. I think the Accentum (Plus) might also work well, but I haven't listened to them yet.
I also like B&W PX7 S2, but they have a more laid-back sound. The Momentum 4 are more forward-sounding and better suited for rock/metal imho. But they still handle every other genre really well.

If you’re gonna get the XM5, it’s definitely money well spent without a doubt. I’ve been using mine for almost a year now, still as good as new, fit and finishing is gold standard. But the new ULT seems pretty good for half the price, getting a Sony headphone is the smartest choice even on IOS.
How well do they compare to Bose QC45s? I got Bose QC45 for 238 USD in sale
Sound is clearer on the Bose. They trade blows on other features. I’d keep what you have. No need to spend more money than you have to, tbh.

ANC can't do much about chattering, passive isolation is the main factor here.

I have been using the XM5 for over a year now. I previously owned a JBL E55BT which is much cheaper and i still use it too which is about 7 years old now.
XM5 to me is a little bit dull sounding because the highs are not crisp comparing to my JBLs. Bass is good but when i watch a movie or something i always go with the JBL because of the clear sharp sounds. I have tried other headphones as well. some anker soundcore stuff and more JBL stuff. I like the sound quality of the XM5 for music but not for podcasts or movies. I would like a little bit more crisper sound from the XM5.
another thing is i ABSOLUTELY HATE the hinge slider thing. It always slides when its on my neck and every time i put it on i have to re adjust the headband. Just a bad design in my opinion.
I never experienced a noise cancelling headphones before the XM5, you can still hear stuff but much quieter. If you are playing music then you pretty much dont hear anything else. but i was kinda spoiled with so many reviews saying its the best of the best making me think that it'd make everything dead silent.

One of the most important things that most ULT reviews (including this one) fails to mention is that the bass levels on the two ULT button options are ADJUSTABLE in the app. I’ve seen so many reviewers talk about how “ULT2 is too much” and the like. Well, you have ULT2 set to +10, then. In the app, you can set it to +1 if you want. It’s all USER DEFINED. The button essentially makes it so you have 2 bass level presets (the way you want them set in the app), available to toggle through via the button. That’s the selling point of this.
I have the XM4’s and also just picked these up. Honestly, I like these better, for a fraction of the price.

Ults if you care about bass if you want good bass and clarity then the xm4s. I recently got some in November last year and I alr have over 600 hours on the headphones 10/10
even on ULT off the bass is PLENTY, im still comparing this to some jbl or other headphones just for battery life

Its amazing what you get for under 200 dollars. This headphones are lovely for hip hop, heavy metal and electronic music in my opinion. Although ult2 mode is unneccesary. Thanks.
Please, do not get the impression that this is good for metal. It is not. I listen to metal and it is not tight or punchy. It becomes a mess on anything other than off. I’m unsure how you came away thinking that based on this video.

Im the people not like you :) I just learned about these headphones an hour ago, been looking at reviews and im so excieted that there are some new headphones out that are ment to bring some proper bass ! When im in the mood for some trap or techno or even hiphop, I want my eyes to vibrate from the bass :D
