I love how Dark Troopers were used to contrast ordinary people to jedi, with a skilled warrior (The Mandalorian) struggling to take out a single droid, while a trained jedi strides through them with ease. So amazing to see Luke in his prime
I think that’s a bad thing lol. More Jedi on the show will ruin Mando season 3. The show was good because of the combo of Mando and Grogu. Luke taking Grogu was a terrible writing decision imo
Just goes to show how impressive the Dark Troopers are. Mandalorians were able to fight Jedi in the old days, and while Mando may not be the best Mandalorian ever I think he's at least up there, so the fact that he had trouble with one, just shows how powerful they were, and in turn shows how powerful Luke is by beating them all like that.

Perhaps. Though I feel like there is a difference between the two. Battle droids are built for skirmishes, expendable and made more en masse, like the B1 and B2 battle droids. The name "war droids," on the other hand, gives the impression of droids that are built to last. Hence "battle" being a single engagement while "war" is multiple. Yes, I feel "war droids" holds more weight and sounds cooler, but I feel there is a difference between the two.
The best part about the dark troopers with me is the song they have when they entered the song was making it much more scary and had me at the edge of my seat At the end.
The main reason stronger droids weren't produced during the Clone Wars is because Darth Sidious would NEVER allow it. According his plan, each Droid had to be weak enough that an average Clone Trooper could take them out with ease. The Droid Army (by design) was only meant to keep the Grand Army of the Republic busy. Not outright dominate. Plus, in the comics, they built prototype Jedi Killer droids made out of Cortosis (lightsaber resistant) armor, but Sidious felt they were too strong, and had the Jedi destroy the factory.
@Adam and Eve - Not all droids were like Dark Troopers. Most Clone Wars Droids during the Clone Wars were much weaker (like the B1 Droid), or too dumb and couldn't adapt easily. The stupid ones you can just change tactics and take them out.
@Adam and Eve - If all Droids were like IG88 and Dark Troopers, then they would be superior to almost everyone. Definitely better than regular Clone Troopers at least. Mandos I think are just barely better than Dark Troopers, but it depends what kind of armor and weapon the Mando has. A Mando can't fight a Dark Trooper head-on without Beskar armor, and heavy firepower. The Mandalorian was lucky in the TV show that he had a Beskar spear.
How the mandalorian should have ended: A ship comes out of hyperspace... Cara: "Great, one LAAT, we're saved". The darktroopers turn around ready to face the threat as the LAAT lands. One very old man jumps out, as the darktroopers watch in horror, the scream of their opponent starts to fill their dark robotic minds... Rex: "IT SMELLS LIKE CLANKER IN HERE!"
It was defiantly awesome to see the Dark Troopers and they were just another reason The Mandalorian season 2 was awesome, especially that Luke Skywalker scene with them, truly magnificent.
If the CIS had deployed these types of droids in mass numbers instead, the clone troopers would have merely adapted over time with whatever suitable weaponry and tactics were needed. That said, it should also be noted that it probably would have been mostly the same, since the clones’ tactical training and their DC-series blasters, which were plasma-based (blue colored instead of the particle-beam red), were specifically designed for them to take down droid enemies more effectively.
"Previous units were likely cyborgs or exosuits" In Dark Forces, the origional Phase 3 was an exosuit. Rom Mohc himself is described as being obsessed with personal combat, and opposed the DeathStar's construction because he opposed "any technology that removed the soilder from the battlefield". I can't see him, with that description, spearheading a battledroid project unless the exosuit was his real goal. Of course, this was before the prequels. After we learned that the CIS was a droid army, it's likely that any Imperial battledroid program would have seemed hypocritical. So it seems likely the DarkTrooper project in Canon started as an exosuit project: turn every Stormtrooper into Tony Stark. A project that would have been curtailed both by technological problems (IronMan2 court scene where he shows the competition's prototypes) as well as a lack of funding as it would have had to compete with the Tie Defender and the DeathStar projects. With the Emperor fallen, the remnant desperate, and the memories of the Clone Wars far behind them... the decision that "Human make problem, Droid Better" was made.
now the dark troopers are so op but when luke came in, that even more op, but i can imagine how deadly these would of been of any phase troopers in the clone wars against the republic.
No surprise Luke was more op, after all he is the Jedi who defeated Darth Vader. George Lucas even stated that Luke Skywalker is _the_ most powerful Jedi of all time. Very few could ever rival him one-on-one in his prime.
@@MrJH101 indeed. It is understandable that Luke, at his prime and as the Jedi grandmaster, would have more than enough skill and power to destroy the Dark Trooper. Simply having a good mastery of foresight to predict their moves and more practice with Lightsaber combat would suffice him to defeat them
That scene where Din is getting his head smashed in absolutely did it for me. Just such a pity they only were there so briefly and don't really do much.
@@Max-ke3ty No he was in danger, just because the helmet was fine doesn't mean Din's head wasn't feeling those punches, beskar is not like vibranium that would absorb the the shock of the blows, if that Dark Trooper had kept going Din's skull would have been turned to paste from the inside out.

@@funguy873 Yep, not to mention when Din took his helmet off you could clearly see he got his bell rung, wouldn't be too surprised if some of his teeth were loose too, whatever the Mando's use for padding inside those helmets is the real MVP that's for sure.

The thing about Dark Troopers is that the original idea from my interpretation was meant to be like the Cyborgs from DBZ. The perfect blend of the strength and heavy firepower of a droid with the unpredictability of a human mind within, a human mind fiercely loyal to the Empire. Gideon more then likely saw this in itself as an error, though if any of those Dark Troopers were part human, they would’ve tried to either continue breaking in to at least kill everyone but Gideon and Grogu and possibly escort them to an escape or escape themselves to another Imperial Outpost to both survive and by the fact of being intact possibly reverse engineer the DT model from them. Plus they would understand the fear in a goddamn laser sword.
Loved that they brought dark troopers back into canon. Wish they were phase 1's so they could 'attempt' to fight Luke sword v sword even though they would still lose. This would give writers reason to make phase 2 & 3 troopers more challenging and place them in future episodes.
Whats fun is there one cut where you can see the troopers arm is either janky or its a forearm being moved by a person . anything but a tough droid arm.. Wad flimsy if you catch it
The most unfortunate 'people' in the Star Wars Universe were actually the Droids and the Clones. Both were created with actual self-awareness and human intelligence, but were forced into slavery from the moment they were created. Forced to serve as cannon-fodder for a war that neither side had the right to question lol. A handful of powerful people, the Separatists and the higher ups of the Republic, decided on the fates of the entire Galaxy. And were all manipulated by a single person in the end lol.

Nah, they've been around for a long, long time. Their first appearance in canon just happens to be Mandalorian. But I understand your confusion, considering the models are exact replicas to the ones in Rebels. I consider it a continuity error - but I'm sure I'd get smoked for daring to disagree with the Filoniverse's overall success.
I loved seeing them. Not only that but seeing how hard it was for Mando to take one down. IT was really needed to show how much above everyone else that Luke actually was a a Jedi Master. IT was the perfect way to really separate a Jedi Master from everyone else.
I wish the Dark Troopers had wrist blasters, built-in missiles launchers, retractable vibroblades, disruptor blasters, cloaking and personal energy shields (the one's in Halo not the orb type). And just move a little FASTER like the Commando droids.
I loved how much love to detail they put into their movement in the mando episode. Like how the Droid drops down when Mando destroys it. They animated it in a way that you can feel how heavy that thing is.
Dark Troopers were also in Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, which was basically just Age of Empires 2 but Star Wars and it was super awesome and wish it got more recognition. They had a bonus vs all infantry which is pretty accurate I'd say
I think thrawn used some dark troopers for physical training in rebels which make him more awesome being able to improve his fighting skills while also have such juggernaut at his disposal.

They were until Luke arrived. Blaster bolts and beskar mini rockets bounce off their armour, punching the beskar helmet (with a force that can dent in blast doors) didn't damage the droid's fist at all, beskar spear couldn't penetrate the armour (weak spot needed to be revealed by fire).
I remember Thrawn's commentary on the Neimodian culture and their design philosophy. Their droids are built en masse and deployed in overwhelming numbers in order to break the opponent, everything is disposable, everything is replaceable. Thus the extremely compact OOM-series and B1s, thus the very reliable but inflexible vulture droid. Besides, what would they use them for? They already had B2s, crab droids, droidekas and magnaguards for combating Jedi or for acting as the heavy infantry. They already had perfectly fine combat droids, and a lot of variety, it was just that the B1s were so ridiculously cheap that we mostly see them.
I mean the Separatists made the Cortosis B2 and the collicoids made all sorts of incredibly deadly, but rare droids. They had all the building blocks for a dark trooper, but didn’t put them all together. Imagine if you crammed a B2 rocket droid, a B2 cortosis droid, and a Magnaguard all together, that’s basically a dark trooper. That said... imagine if they added a bit of droideka and Super tactical droid in there as well...
Fun fact: George Lucas stated (in an episode 2 interview?) that B1 droids had no issues dealing with clones, even given the hinderance of a faulty processor. Which means that droids would have been horrifying to deal with if fixed, but were only a little beneath that nightmare. In modern canon, however, they decided to establish that they should be (for the most part) defective. Shame. Edit: A shame, because it makes the clone’s job seem easy, which it still wasn’t thanks to “alien” hostiles they fought on occasion. That, and better battlefield models. But it still takes away from the credibility of clone effectiveness, even if only to a small degree.

@@geetslys It does. When empires fall they don't just disappear they decompose over time. When the Western Roman Empire fell the people didn't just stop being Roman.
The simple fact is that in all honesty the war ended too fast in canon. When you look at the structure of the empire you had Grand Moffs who were oversector govenors and Moffs which were sector govenors who all reported to Palpatine and all had a considerable amount of forces under their command on top of most of them being ambitious and trying to overcome political opponents. Not to mention the Grand Admirals with large fleets under their command. What should of happened is what happened in legends: The Empire dissolves into a massive civil war with multiple warlord factions made up of Grand Moffs clamoring for the throne, Moffs making alliances to protect themselves, with the New Republic being one small part of it all that needs to expand. Or in other words, a state similar to the Sengoku period of Japanese history. In Disney Canon the war ended within a year of the destruction of the second Death Star. This leaves tens, hundreds, of millions of Stormtroopers still around to become imperial holdouts. While the Rebels did win the war and re-establish the Republic they did not have a standing military that could actually contest the Empire. This is why the new Republic is treated as a joke in the Mandalorian, they won the war through winning a couple battles and taking out the Emperor without the necessary power to actually take over for the Empire. If there wasn't so many imperials after the battle of Jakku it would of been far stranger. As the war already ended unnaturally fast to begin with.
The Separatists displayed immense technical prowess and ruthlessness in the construction of their droids. I remember reading that it had more to do with the business and production model of their assembly lines. They preferred to cheaply mass produce 500 battle droids than pour a ton of money to develop 20 expensive droids that the Jedi would cut down anyway. It makes sense the Empire would choose a more specialized production route, as unlike the Confederacy, they aren’t engaged in a large scale conflict and their enemies are far more elusive and evasive, requiring specialized units to seek and destroy rather than engage directly.
@@CoolMyron and I agree with the OP, season one didn’t over use the imperials as antagonists which is better since overusing them gets boring and predictable and the fact that there’s no sense of danger when the main characters can just charge in and mow down everyone like it was nothing. People only like season 2 more because of the clone wars characters being put in alongside Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker and the EU fan favorites like the Dark troopers. I bet if none of these were a factor in season 2 people wouldn’t have liked it as much as the first season.
@@RazuX5 Yeah thats a part that i would like star wars as a whole to stop doing. Stop making the stormtroopers look like dumbasses. Use the army more then the stormtrooper core. So when we see a stormtrooper it means more then canon fodder. They can also give Mandos a challenge by adding better and stronger units like Dark Troopers, Death Troopers, Imperial Mandos, and more. I hate the Empire, but I'm tired of them being useless. The older characters were almost required in this show. Nothing felt like it was not needed. I think It would have made less sense for them not to be there. Who else would Grogu call? No one is looking to make a temple at this point other then luke.
I think Dark Troopers are just a natural evolution from the Super Battledrod. I see it going from super Battledroid, to Sentry droids from rebels, to Dark Troopers.
CIS droids tend to either be numerous cannon fodder or agile individuals. The Empire likes its battle droids to be fewer and farther in between, more as slow tanks often put in defensive positions.

If the Phase 3 dark troopers made it into production as those exo suits, this would make the imperials on the same level as those in power armor in fallout, perhaps even stronger. Although maybe not quite the same as Warhammer 40k
Me: Still rewatching the Mandalorian S2 finale from time to time, just to see the Dark Troopers in all their awesomeness, and Luke slicing them up like butter too, of course lol.
Remember, there were B1 battle droids that think certain b1 models as not very bright based on the performance of different models apart from them, as revealed in the clone wars episode when R2 was rescued from Grievous’s “custody”. So ultimately it depends on the model. B1 droids aren’t (at least not every unit and not in every area) dumb and useless. Another thing to note is that they are all still useful for cruiser bridge calculation tasks. But this is one of other talents they’re-universally in their respective class-good with.
loved dark forces and dark troopers are one of my favorite enemies in video games. I was more excited to see these guys than luke. now we need to get Kyle katarn.
I was thrilled to see them...though it just made me miss Kyle Katarn even more. Im still hoping he, Jan Ors and Mara Jade are reintroduced to Disney canon in some way down the road (I still consider the EU as true canon).
I honestly wished we get more screen time for dark troopers, especially because of how amazing they are. Though it does seem like very intelligent minded droids can be dangerous in ways, it is still something I would have liked to see in large numbers.
We've seen the CIS use advanced combat droids on multiple occasions: for example, the A-series Assassin Droid, which, though not brilliant at killing Jedi, have been seen to be capable of doing so if granted a modicum of numerical superiority. Dark Troopers, conversely, are a lethal threat to normal infantry, but a trained Jedi cuts through them like a knife through butter. It seems to me that it's not so much that the CIS were scared to deploy Dark Troopers, but rather that they had other, better, tools in their toolbox for the jobs they needed doing.
I will say a quick thing, if you don’t mind, with regards to an old game of... questionable canonicity at this point but some sources consider it canon: Star Wars Commander. In Star Wars commander, Phase II Dark Troopers are a unit you can use in game as the Imperials. In that however, they were actual people wearing an exosuit with a lot of heavy weaponry and whatnot. This is also hinted at in The Mandalorian, where that Doctor (whose name slips my mind) mentions that the phase III Dark Troopers we saw were an improvement over the previous version, by removing the human operators. Just an interesting detail in current canon that didn’t seem to get mentioned here
They actually got close to something similar with the hks they were producing in mustafar they put hk47 memory into the ship he crash landed on and made a droid based off it's design
I think the main reasons Dark Troopers are more effective than CIS battle droids is that technology overall had become somewhat more advanced and that, like assassin droids, they weren't front line soldiers so their objectives were much smaller in scope. Due to their missions or targets being so specific, and the fact that they operated in smaller groups, they have a lot less to deal with mentally so they can devote more processing power to thinking about accomplishing a single goal rather than the multitasking that CIS droids had to do. Working with specific objects is far easier for computers than working with broad concepts, and CIS droids were expected to have a much more broad idea of "enemy combatant" than whomever Dark Troopers were sent after. This would explain why CIS droids would hesitate and react more slowly than one would expect a machine to do.

I think that’s a bad thing lol. More Jedi on the show will ruin Mando season 3. The show was good because of the combo of Mando and Grogu. Luke taking Grogu was a terrible writing decision imo

Just goes to show how impressive the Dark Troopers are. Mandalorians were able to fight Jedi in the old days, and while Mando may not be the best Mandalorian ever I think he's at least up there, so the fact that he had trouble with one, just shows how powerful they were, and in turn shows how powerful Luke is by beating them all like that.
We do have to keep the power of a lightsaber in mind, as mandos problem was mainly that he couldn't destroy them which a lightsaber easily could.

Perhaps. Though I feel like there is a difference between the two. Battle droids are built for skirmishes, expendable and made more en masse, like the B1 and B2 battle droids. The name "war droids," on the other hand, gives the impression of droids that are built to last. Hence "battle" being a single engagement while "war" is multiple. Yes, I feel "war droids" holds more weight and sounds cooler, but I feel there is a difference between the two.

Power of the techno union
The main reason stronger droids weren't produced during the Clone Wars is because Darth Sidious would NEVER allow it. According his plan, each Droid had to be weak enough that an average Clone Trooper could take them out with ease. The Droid Army (by design) was only meant to keep the Grand Army of the Republic busy. Not outright dominate. Plus, in the comics, they built prototype Jedi Killer droids made out of Cortosis (lightsaber resistant) armor, but Sidious felt they were too strong, and had the Jedi destroy the factory.

@Adam and Eve - Not all droids were like Dark Troopers. Most Clone Wars Droids during the Clone Wars were much weaker (like the B1 Droid), or too dumb and couldn't adapt easily. The stupid ones you can just change tactics and take them out.
@Adam and Eve - If all Droids were like IG88 and Dark Troopers, then they would be superior to almost everyone. Definitely better than regular Clone Troopers at least.
Mandos I think are just barely better than Dark Troopers, but it depends what kind of armor and weapon the Mando has. A Mando can't fight a Dark Trooper head-on without Beskar armor, and heavy firepower. The Mandalorian was lucky in the TV show that he had a Beskar spear.

I will always remember the Star Wars battlefront II 2006 dark trooper which was a fun guy, but killed more of his team then enemies.
It was defiantly awesome to see the Dark Troopers and they were just another reason The Mandalorian season 2 was awesome, especially that Luke Skywalker scene with them, truly magnificent.

The dark troopers are just super battledroids with marginally better armor and jetpacks.
If the CIS had deployed these types of droids in mass numbers instead, the clone troopers would have merely adapted over time with whatever suitable weaponry and tactics were needed. That said, it should also be noted that it probably would have been mostly the same, since the clones’ tactical training and their DC-series blasters, which were plasma-based (blue colored instead of the particle-beam red), were specifically designed for them to take down droid enemies more effectively.

In Dark Forces, the origional Phase 3 was an exosuit. Rom Mohc himself is described as being obsessed with personal combat, and opposed the DeathStar's construction because he opposed "any technology that removed the soilder from the battlefield". I can't see him, with that description, spearheading a battledroid project unless the exosuit was his real goal.
Of course, this was before the prequels. After we learned that the CIS was a droid army, it's likely that any Imperial battledroid program would have seemed hypocritical.
So it seems likely the DarkTrooper project in Canon started as an exosuit project: turn every Stormtrooper into Tony Stark. A project that would have been curtailed both by technological problems (IronMan2 court scene where he shows the competition's prototypes) as well as a lack of funding as it would have had to compete with the Tie Defender and the DeathStar projects.
With the Emperor fallen, the remnant desperate, and the memories of the Clone Wars far behind them... the decision that "Human make problem, Droid Better" was made.

No surprise Luke was more op, after all he is the Jedi who defeated Darth Vader. George Lucas even stated that Luke Skywalker is _the_ most powerful Jedi of all time. Very few could ever rival him one-on-one in his prime.

I cant stop thinking about OG Fallout power armour when I see the videogame depictions of the fase 3 dark troopers.
The thing about Dark Troopers is that the original idea from my interpretation was meant to be like the Cyborgs from DBZ. The perfect blend of the strength and heavy firepower of a droid with the unpredictability of a human mind within, a human mind fiercely loyal to the Empire.
Gideon more then likely saw this in itself as an error, though if any of those Dark Troopers were part human, they would’ve tried to either continue breaking in to at least kill everyone but Gideon and Grogu and possibly escort them to an escape or escape themselves to another Imperial Outpost to both survive and by the fact of being intact possibly reverse engineer the DT model from them.
Plus they would understand the fear in a goddamn laser sword.
Loved that they brought dark troopers back into canon. Wish they were phase 1's so they could 'attempt' to fight Luke sword v sword even though they would still lose.
This would give writers reason to make phase 2 & 3 troopers more challenging and place them in future episodes.

The most unfortunate 'people' in the Star Wars Universe were actually the Droids and the Clones. Both were created with actual self-awareness and human intelligence, but were forced into slavery from the moment they were created. Forced to serve as cannon-fodder for a war that neither side had the right to question lol. A handful of powerful people, the Separatists and the higher ups of the Republic, decided on the fates of the entire Galaxy. And were all manipulated by a single person in the end lol.

Nah, they've been around for a long, long time. Their first appearance in canon just happens to be Mandalorian. But I understand your confusion, considering the models are exact replicas to the ones in Rebels. I consider it a continuity error - but I'm sure I'd get smoked for daring to disagree with the Filoniverse's overall success.

I loved seeing them. Not only that but seeing how hard it was for Mando to take one down. IT was really needed to show how much above everyone else that Luke actually was a a Jedi Master. IT was the perfect way to really separate a Jedi Master from everyone else.

I wish the Dark Troopers had wrist blasters, built-in missiles launchers, retractable vibroblades, disruptor blasters, cloaking and personal energy shields (the one's in Halo not the orb type). And just move a little FASTER like the Commando droids.

I loved how much love to detail they put into their movement in the mando episode. Like how the Droid drops down when Mando destroys it. They animated it in a way that you can feel how heavy that thing is.

They were until Luke arrived. Blaster bolts and beskar mini rockets bounce off their armour, punching the beskar helmet (with a force that can dent in blast doors) didn't damage the droid's fist at all, beskar spear couldn't penetrate the armour (weak spot needed to be revealed by fire).
I remember Thrawn's commentary on the Neimodian culture and their design philosophy. Their droids are built en masse and deployed in overwhelming numbers in order to break the opponent, everything is disposable, everything is replaceable. Thus the extremely compact OOM-series and B1s, thus the very reliable but inflexible vulture droid.
Besides, what would they use them for? They already had B2s, crab droids, droidekas and magnaguards for combating Jedi or for acting as the heavy infantry. They already had perfectly fine combat droids, and a lot of variety, it was just that the B1s were so ridiculously cheap that we mostly see them.

I mean the Separatists made the Cortosis B2 and the collicoids made all sorts of incredibly deadly, but rare droids. They had all the building blocks for a dark trooper, but didn’t put them all together. Imagine if you crammed a B2 rocket droid, a B2 cortosis droid, and a Magnaguard all together, that’s basically a dark trooper. That said... imagine if they added a bit of droideka and Super tactical droid in there as well...
Fun fact: George Lucas stated (in an episode 2 interview?) that B1 droids had no issues dealing with clones, even given the hinderance of a faulty processor.
Which means that droids would have been horrifying to deal with if fixed, but were only a little beneath that nightmare. In modern canon, however, they decided to establish that they should be (for the most part) defective. Shame.
Edit: A shame, because it makes the clone’s job seem easy, which it still wasn’t thanks to “alien” hostiles they fought on occasion. That, and better battlefield models. But it still takes away from the credibility of clone effectiveness, even if only to a small degree.

@@geetslys It does. When empires fall they don't just disappear they decompose over time. When the Western Roman Empire fell the people didn't just stop being Roman.
The simple fact is that in all honesty the war ended too fast in canon. When you look at the structure of the empire you had Grand Moffs who were oversector govenors and Moffs which were sector govenors who all reported to Palpatine and all had a considerable amount of forces under their command on top of most of them being ambitious and trying to overcome political opponents. Not to mention the Grand Admirals with large fleets under their command.
What should of happened is what happened in legends: The Empire dissolves into a massive civil war with multiple warlord factions made up of Grand Moffs clamoring for the throne, Moffs making alliances to protect themselves, with the New Republic being one small part of it all that needs to expand.
Or in other words, a state similar to the Sengoku period of Japanese history.
In Disney Canon the war ended within a year of the destruction of the second Death Star. This leaves tens, hundreds, of millions of Stormtroopers still around to become imperial holdouts. While the Rebels did win the war and re-establish the Republic they did not have a standing military that could actually contest the Empire. This is why the new Republic is treated as a joke in the Mandalorian, they won the war through winning a couple battles and taking out the Emperor without the necessary power to actually take over for the Empire.
If there wasn't so many imperials after the battle of Jakku it would of been far stranger. As the war already ended unnaturally fast to begin with.

The Separatists displayed immense technical prowess and ruthlessness in the construction of their droids. I remember reading that it had more to do with the business and production model of their assembly lines. They preferred to cheaply mass produce 500 battle droids than pour a ton of money to develop 20 expensive droids that the Jedi would cut down anyway.
It makes sense the Empire would choose a more specialized production route, as unlike the Confederacy, they aren’t engaged in a large scale conflict and their enemies are far more elusive and evasive, requiring specialized units to seek and destroy rather than engage directly.

@@CoolMyron and I agree with the OP, season one didn’t over use the imperials as antagonists which is better since overusing them gets boring and predictable and the fact that there’s no sense of danger when the main characters can just charge in and mow down everyone like it was nothing. People only like season 2 more because of the clone wars characters being put in alongside Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker and the EU fan favorites like the Dark troopers.
I bet if none of these were a factor in season 2 people wouldn’t have liked it as much as the first season.

The older characters were almost required in this show. Nothing felt like it was not needed. I think It would have made less sense for them not to be there. Who else would Grogu call? No one is looking to make a temple at this point other then luke.

Absolutely thrilled to see them.. even if only briefly, and in the end, getting blended into droid soup.
If the Phase 3 dark troopers made it into production as those exo suits, this would make the imperials on the same level as those in power armor in fallout, perhaps even stronger. Although maybe not quite the same as Warhammer 40k

The face of the Deathtroopers always reminded me of a 40k Space Marine, which made me fear them a LOT more.

Remember, there were B1 battle droids that think certain b1 models as not very bright based on the performance of different models apart from them, as revealed in the clone wars episode when R2 was rescued from Grievous’s “custody”. So ultimately it depends on the model. B1 droids aren’t (at least not every unit and not in every area) dumb and useless.
Another thing to note is that they are all still useful for cruiser bridge calculation tasks. But this is one of other talents they’re-universally in their respective class-good with.

loved dark forces and dark troopers are one of my favorite enemies in video games. I was more excited to see these guys than luke. now we need to get Kyle katarn.

I was thrilled to see them...though it just made me miss Kyle Katarn even more. Im still hoping he, Jan Ors and Mara Jade are reintroduced to Disney canon in some way down the road (I still consider the EU as true canon).

Magna Guards are probably my favorite type of droid. Upgrading one of those would essentially be the equivalent of a dark trooper.
I honestly wished we get more screen time for dark troopers, especially because of how amazing they are. Though it does seem like very intelligent minded droids can be dangerous in ways, it is still something I would have liked to see in large numbers.
The dark troopers were in star wars rebels too, where they are called imperial sentry droids. They look identical to the ones from the mandalorian

We've seen the CIS use advanced combat droids on multiple occasions: for example, the A-series Assassin Droid, which, though not brilliant at killing Jedi, have been seen to be capable of doing so if granted a modicum of numerical superiority. Dark Troopers, conversely, are a lethal threat to normal infantry, but a trained Jedi cuts through them like a knife through butter.
It seems to me that it's not so much that the CIS were scared to deploy Dark Troopers, but rather that they had other, better, tools in their toolbox for the jobs they needed doing.
Didn’t Dark Troopers appear in the last season of Rebels? Being used as training bots for Thrawn if memory serves me right.

I will say a quick thing, if you don’t mind, with regards to an old game of... questionable canonicity at this point but some sources consider it canon: Star Wars Commander.
In Star Wars commander, Phase II Dark Troopers are a unit you can use in game as the Imperials. In that however, they were actual people wearing an exosuit with a lot of heavy weaponry and whatnot. This is also hinted at in The Mandalorian, where that Doctor (whose name slips my mind) mentions that the phase III Dark Troopers we saw were an improvement over the previous version, by removing the human operators. Just an interesting detail in current canon that didn’t seem to get mentioned here
They actually got close to something similar with the hks they were producing in mustafar they put hk47 memory into the ship he crash landed on and made a droid based off it's design

I think the main reasons Dark Troopers are more effective than CIS battle droids is that technology overall had become somewhat more advanced and that, like assassin droids, they weren't front line soldiers so their objectives were much smaller in scope. Due to their missions or targets being so specific, and the fact that they operated in smaller groups, they have a lot less to deal with mentally so they can devote more processing power to thinking about accomplishing a single goal rather than the multitasking that CIS droids had to do. Working with specific objects is far easier for computers than working with broad concepts, and CIS droids were expected to have a much more broad idea of "enemy combatant" than whomever Dark Troopers were sent after. This would explain why CIS droids would hesitate and react more slowly than one would expect a machine to do.
