To reduce the black fungus. After washing feeder rinse with plain white vinegar. Then rinse off the vinegar.

Great video! I have hummingbird feeders in my yard along with many plants hummingbirds love, planted in various colored pots around my yard and patio. I have a lot of tall pines and oak trees as well as a few fruit trees that they fly into to eat fruit flies and gnats. I also have a couple of small fountains that drizzle water that they bathe in every day! I agree! Brightly colored tubular shaped flowers, hummingbird feeders, and shallow fountains along with trees for them to perch in will bring loads of hummingbirds to your yard!🌺🪴🌸🌿⛲️🌳 ❤

I get Ruby throated hummingbirds every year. Last year I had a new one that I didn’t recognize. It was a cream color and had some black on the back and on the head. They were little meanies!!

can bees/wasps/ants and hummingbirds "get along"?? - would love to see you do a video on it - sometimes it scares me when I see a lot of bees/wasps/ants around and sometimes inside my hummingbird feeders

I have an arbor with honeysuckle vines which started blooming like crazy in recent weeks. I have seen a couple hummingbirds feeding from it this week. They are not so commonly seen in my neighborhood in central Ohio, so I was highly amused to see them.

The hummingbirds love my trumpet vines. Over the years they’ve spread. I’m in the middle of building a separate hummingbird/butterfly garden. I’m doing ground prep. I have the plants in pots. Won’t plant in ground until fall.

Number#6 Tie a few foot long strips of Pink florescent surveying tape/ribbon( from your local hardware store)from some trees limbs. Birds have keen sence of sight and that will help catch their eye as they are passing from a distance and prompt them to investigate, attract them to your yard and help find your feeder.

I live in a woods in Eastern TN, I put bird seed out in 7 spots and my cats and I had to make a feeding trough for a 4 legged "bird" I told my fur kids to call him " uncle buck" , most nights he shows up only 40 feet from my camper and I talk to him he just looks at me and keeps eating, some nights the cats smell him and he smells them😊 they all get along. I took a plastic garbage can lid painted white and put it just in the ground as a bird bath .

I've probably mentioned this before but if you can overcome the fear of a bumble bee looking for nectar and hold still enough, they'll lick the wax out of your ears. It's been since the seventies since I allowed that personally but remember that it tickles.

When to put humming bird feeder out in the South (Louisiana)

    • @BadgerlandBirding
      @BadgerlandBirding  8 місяців тому +1

If you want to get spring migrants, February is a good time, but Louisiana also hosts winter hummingbirds so you could actually keep one up year round.

I live in NE Ohio and I’ve noticed that I stop seeing hummingbirds around June to mid-late July. Then I sporadically see them through august & less in September. They must just all be passing through. Each year, I add more for them, hoping to get them to stick around!

I thought that sugar was a poor substitute for flowers, and that the birds are healthier with nectar.
