Great video! I have hummingbird feeders in my yard along with many plants hummingbirds love, planted in various colored pots around my yard and patio. I have a lot of tall pines and oak trees as well as a few fruit trees that they fly into to eat fruit flies and gnats. I also have a couple of small fountains that drizzle water that they bathe in every day! I agree! Brightly colored tubular shaped flowers, hummingbird feeders, and shallow fountains along with trees for them to perch in will bring loads of hummingbirds to your yard!🌺🪴🌸🌿⛲️🌳 ❤
@@Salmiyaguy1 The birding challenge is called Birding Bingo, theirs a whole video about it but its bingo for birders, you get drawn into a raffle if you get a bingo on the card, hope this helps!
I get Ruby throated hummingbirds every year. Last year I had a new one that I didn’t recognize. It was a cream color and had some black on the back and on the head. They were little meanies!!
Number#6 Tie a few foot long strips of Pink florescent surveying tape/ribbon( from your local hardware store)from some trees limbs. I have an arbor with honeysuckle vines which started blooming like crazy in recent weeks. I have seen a couple hummingbirds feeding from it this week. They are not so commonly seen in my neighborhood in central Ohio, so I was highly amused to see them.
can bees/wasps/ants and hummingbirds "get along"?? - would love to see you do a video on it - sometimes it scares me when I see a lot of bees/wasps/ants around and sometimes inside my hummingbird feeders
The hummingbirds love my trumpet vines. Over the years they’ve spread. I’m in the middle of building a separate hummingbird/butterfly garden. I’m doing ground prep. I have the plants in pots. Won’t plant in ground until fall.
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your expert tips for attracting these gems of the wild! Have your hummers started to migrate? We are missing their little voices...
I've probably mentioned this before but if you can overcome the fear of a bumble bee looking for nectar and hold still enough, they'll lick the wax out of your ears. It's been since the seventies since I allowed that personally but remember that it tickles.
If you want to get spring migrants, February is a good time, but Louisiana also hosts winter hummingbirds so you could actually keep one up year round.
I work at a small stone quarry and sometimes when we are down I spray the front end loader down and sometimes a hummingbird will fly through the mist and drink from the spray😊
I live in a woods in Eastern TN, I put bird seed out in 7 spots and my cats and I had to make a feeding trough for a 4 legged "bird" I told my fur kids to call him " uncle buck" , most nights he shows up only 40 feet from my camper and I talk to him he just looks at me and keeps eating, some nights the cats smell him and he smells them😊 they all get along. I took a plastic garbage can lid painted white and put it just in the ground as a bird bath .
I live in NE Ohio and I’ve noticed that I stop seeing hummingbirds around June to mid-late July. Then I sporadically see them through august & less in September. They must just all be passing through. Each year, I add more for them, hoping to get them to stick around!
@@BadgerlandBirding Yes. Then I bred it in captivity and now I have a population of them in my kitchen. We share coffee every morning, then they really start zooming around the house.

beautiful white crowned sparrow as well.
To reduce the black fungus. After washing feeder rinse with plain white vinegar. Then rinse off the vinegar.

planted a trumpter vine last year. Hoping to have flowers and photos to pass along this summer.
Our trumpet vine has yet to bloom. This year it will be 5 years since it's planted. We hope it blooms this year. Geesh its' taking forever.

When to put humming bird feeder out in the South (Louisiana)

You’ll get Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in the summer! Same tips apply!

Hi, how do we attract them to our front yard?
Same tips but in the front

Like you caught it and stole it and took it home?

I thought that sugar was a poor substitute for flowers, and that the birds are healthier with nectar.
