whenever the news gets me so upset with all the craziness going on, I turn on your channel and sit back and relax. I am 64 and have worked with wood all my life, not like you with a mill but construction. I enjoy your laid back way and it relax's me. Thank You
B B
I'm with you on that partner! This channel calms my soul.
Around eight minutes in the video you thanked us viewers for watching your videos, appreciate you acknowledging that, but to tell you the truth you have the best show in town anyway, just so you know, keep making the videos Nathan, UA-cam would be a very boring place without you 🙋🏻♂️
Thanks buddy appreciate you
I missed this vid Nathan and it's real nice to see all the green on this snowy February day! Kind Thanks! Blessings! DaveyJO in Pa.
I rented a house for 11 years before I was able to buy my own. I always followed the golden rule to leave a place as good as, or better than you found it. I guess that’s why my landlord never raised my rent, and was sad to see me go.
Most tenants are like you, but small landlords get one bad tenant then freak out. There are two problems a new landlord often has (1) only having one rental - when that one is damaged it is 100% of his rentals, and (2) assuming that every tenant will look after the home like they would, so then anything less than the world's most perfect tenant becomes a catastrophe.
I have rented the places that I have lived and I take pride in making sure that the house is clean and well maintained. I dislike those renters that make the rest of "Good" renters look bad.
I have a suggestion that will save you a lot of time moving the wind chimes. Use less of them, then drill and tap a hole in each spacer and thread in a thumb screw so you can adjust the wind chimes on the fly without having to take it apart. The chimes will still rotate but the spacers will be held in place by the lock down thumb screw.
I love that thunk when you smack one those scabs and pull it off.
I got the hf sawmill and extending the tracks out to 28ft. I am thrilled to have a sawmill....cant wait to get it set up
Awesome 👍👍👍
I agree with Jackal. I subscribe to several vlogs, but this is my favorite. Relaxing and informative. I like your subtle sense of humor.
Can’t wait to see the walnut. Man that drone footage is beautiful.
-Ben
Like his accent. I had rented an apartment and I left it in better condition than when I first moved in... including removing a giant hair snake that was clogging the shower drain. They gave me back my entire security deposit and were sad to see me go.
Thank you for explaining the use of the "wind chimes" :) I tried doing searches on saw mill wind chimes and nothing would come up. Now I know why!
You're very welcome!
We had a rental for a couple years. I was so glad when we sold it.
Nathan I learned something tonight watching your Saw Mill when you put that Walnut on the mill you said you were going saw it 5 /4 boards... then I saw you setting the screen to 1 1/4" thus 5 quarter.. now I get it! Neat.
awesome!
Basic arithmetic, though too often expressed in esoteric, archaic, and strange ways.
Firewood!
I had two rental properties, one of them I sold to the place next door to get turned into a parking lot. It was such a nuisance I didn't mind losing money on the sale. The other one, I'm lucky and have a good renter who keeps the place nicely and pays on time.
Sawing and momma cat! We’ve been seeing the kitties, but missed momma cat.
Very nice
Guess it isn't the disappointments, but how one overcomes them.😊👌
Another interesting video.
Thanks again!
Get a deposit when you rent. Don’t return it when they leave until everything is gone. If you have to clean up at least you get paid.
@Iron *Fe* kind of depends on the signed contract doesn’t it.
Nathan,
I'm looking forward to hearing about the special walnut log. You sounded so excited about cutting it. I'm sure that is going to be a very special video.
It is awesome. Just got done
Good luck on the sale majority of renters don't care i mean after all it's not their's thx for the hard work
When will you show the burning of the wood pile
The flexible cable tray is called a "catenary" in industry. We had them on the fuelling machines where I worked. Love this channel. It's fascinating. I admire your patience and 'laidbackness' as well. Cheers.
Thanks for the info!
Just noticed the Zoso tat...a like just for that.
😎😎😎
Years ago, my parents rented an apt. in our house and everything went well for a few families. But then we got one family that we thought we very nice. Never had a problem until after they moved out we found out! My parents had put in all new, good quality roll up shades when they built the apt. Never had a problem until these last people moved out and we went up to clean up before we showed the apt. They had TAKEN every shade and replaced them with cheap shades from the 5&10 cent store!! My parents were shocked because they were nice people! It just goes to show that you never really know people! They didn't rent after that. Good luck on your house sale and God Bless you and your family!
appreciate it
Couldn't see our local liquor licencing board going for that. Drinking and throwing 🪓. You never know when mother nature is going to throw you a curve ball.
Love the video, can't wait to see that special walnut.
All the best from 🇬🇧🏴
When you threw out that "waste" cut, all I could think was that would make a good size for bending!
Yeah renters are a pain. They clogged my drainage, cut hole in wall to drain kitchen sink and didn't bather calling me to have a plumber fix it. To many crazy people out there. Sorry about the complain love your channel 👍
I had one tenant take a wall down! Another sued ME for deposit return after they left the place a mess. I had photographic proof in housing court and I lost! Crooked people, crooked court, and in this state at least every protection for tenants and virtually none for landlords.
Really looking forward to that special walnut on the mill.
Going down as I type this 👍👍👍
I was thinking the same thing! Even if the wood itself isn't crazy I love a great story behind a piece of wood or tree! Trees can tell a tale if you know how to listen!
I've been in the rental biz my whole life, inherited into it. With good renters it's a breeze, bad renters can make your life miserable.
The bad renters is what makes life interesting! LOL
Oh wow ... That's horrible about the log but at least the customer is awesome.... Brother that machine is so satisfying to watch, great video and have a great day
Thanks 👍
So enjoyable to walk with you in a day even though a bad log is revealed. Thank you Nathan! Yah, I had a rental property once and was the worst financial decision of my life! Pajama peopl lived there. Need I say more? :) :)
lol pajama people,
Wow, that must of been a huge surprise opening that log!. Hope the house sell goes through quickly for you. Just do not understand people leaving their junk behind. That burn pile is getting a whole lot bigger now buddy. Love the wind chimes!!, not forgetting momma cat! Good to see her. Looking forward to the videos later in the week. Take care Nathan. Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧🌲
I had rent houses. I started selling them . Financing them myself, that way they fix what is broken, pay the taxes, They don’t pay I get it back and sell again. And I get the interest money . Not some bank.
A great channel, you do very well describing what's going on
Thanks. Appreciate it
I don't blame you, my rental caught fire because the renter left a candle burning and destroyed my electronic store. Michigan insurance sucks only got 20% of my policy. Too bad about that poplar log, as always a good video.
Looking forward to the walnut video. But that's crazy how that poplar had the junk inside it.
Dang, I could use the ends from the 'void' piece, not sure for what but I'd come up with something... -hehe
Have a great week, and looking forward to the special walnut.
Adjustment looked good on the 5/4 walnut!
The Kingsport Axe House is pretty nifty. Went there last time I was up visiting. Was a lot of fun. :) Maybe I threw axes at wood you provided?
You had a lot going on today. Great video as usual. Always enjoy watching you saw up logs.
Thanks 👍👍
Very cool to see the ZOSO ink on your upper arm.... Paige is stellar!
yes he is!
Your video productions are excellent with the camera angles with your insightful explanations. Tennessee is a great state for a sawyer and garden grower. Thanks.
When spraying for weeds or insects you can add a little liquid soap (like Dawn) as a "sticker" (surfactant) to keep the weed killer on the plant, increases effectiveness. Use liquid soaps sparingly, especially the high suds type.
Nice to see you were or maybe still are a Led Zep fan. Keep on rockin'
Always!
Luv thst Mama Cat! Thanks!
The best!
There was a giant pine tree on my grandparents property in northeast Wisconsin, loggers wanted to harvest it but my grandfather said no so fast. Well it was the tallest thing around and one day it came down in a storm to reveal it was hollow almost halfway up the tree. It was over 100 feet tall easily and took 3 to 4 people to reach around its base. But the tree was useless when it was revealed to be hollow.
Saw it all....Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Axes and ale sounds almost as safe as Russian roulette
If your area is anything like my area your house will sell in 3 days. No joke house are selling so fast up here (vermont). My sister is looking. A house went on Friday night. She went to see it Saturday afternoon. By Monday there were 6 bids. They didn't get it. This is not an isolated event. Hoping you sell quickly.
Wish I lived closer - I''d take that poplar off your hands for some projects that I have in the works. Sorry that it didn't work out like you thought it would, I'm sure that it put a kink in the works. Stay safe.
thanks Robert,
Terrific videos!
Well I can tell you this Nathan...being a ex-landlord...I do understand what you're talking about with tenants...but when I was a tenant...I always cleaned up after myself because i always wanted my security deposit back..and I was a model tenant because I understood that it was NOT my home. SO I respected the fact that it was someone else's home...and i was just visiting...
You need a wood chipper!
ill take a diesel one, appreciate it lol,
thanks for watching,
I'm finished rent homes. In some of my renters. Those boards that were in the back of your truck came out of walls ofthe rentals. That is why I quit.
Beauty or the Beast. You never what's inside. Looking forward to the valuable log video. Also, give us an update if you get the order for the Ax boards.
I gotta tell ya - you've got decent music on your vids! Thx.
thanks Fred,
Like one run to the dump is gonna kill em...it's not like they haven't rented a giant panel truck to move anyway...easy side trip.
agreed
I needed a 24 ft long 8x16, I squared it up, nice and clear, then took 2x to get it to my final size. It looked funny then the same thing, rotten except for 8 ft.
Hell out here in Cali renters leave 5 times more trash then that and they take your washer/ drier/ frig/ stove, even the hot water heater .
i hauled a load of tires today, bad here also, they also took the stove,
My friends rental, they stole the electric meter off the side of the house, all the copper piping in the basement and the aluminum siding as far up as thery could reach. Never again.
Guess they can't all be works of art inside, but hey, they are going to throw axes at it.
Agreed
We just mill Eastern Red Cedar and when milling ERC you get a lot of logs that are rotten in the middle. It appears that climate change is also causing a lot more stress on trees so a lot more of them are having rot in them.
Go to bars, If thats what you like to do wear it out! LOL!
Dadburn bugs ruin everything, first couple of planks sure looked good though!
Yes they do
Dumping the extra house is a good plan. Real estate prices in most places is like 40% over value, the shit's bound to hit the fan like in 2008.
Sorry to see that tree that bad in the middle
What a bummer ☹️
Good morning from St John Parish, Louisiana 25 Aug 20.
Yay mama cat!
Sucks about that poplar log.
Yep, being a landlord is just too much of a pain in the butt. I always tried to leave a house better than I found it when I was a renter. Worst I ever got burnt as a landlord was my ex wife calling the cops on me for posting a pay or quit notice... Too many headaches.
You must have sawdust in your veins, great videos, what are the wind chimes on you mill for ?
Yep when our last renters were evicted. I told the girlfriend to put up for sale. Because I was tired of spending my nights and day off. Fixing stuff they’re kids and dogs broke.
Understand that about renters
Unrelated to the mill, are your cats ratters? I agree regarding renters......keep up the good work.
Yes they are!
Not all renters are the same. I never had anyone quibble about returning my deposit.
Yeah, I agree rentals aren't worth the time and headaches.
You need the right mindset to be a successful landlord. It certainly isn't for everyone.
@@pulaski1 I don't know about being a landlord myself but I've been renovating houses for more than 30 years. I've had quite a few clients that were landlords and every time a renter moved out I had to patch drywall, replace doors, haul trash and repaint. At minimum. Sure repainting is part of decoration and/or maintenance but in my opinion owning rentals is a waste. I'd rather flip houses or build new.
@@gwick358 I agree - I wouldn't be in the rental business if I was paying someone to patch drywall, painting, haul trash, _etc._ But when I can patch a hole in the wall in 30 minutes, and mud it in another 10 minutes, why would I pay someone to do it?
I can make more in two years renting a house than I could flipping it once. And for every damaged unit four or more just require basic cleaning and painting, so I don't focus on the more damaged ones.
it is to bad that I live in CA because the wood that put on burn pile I could turn into pens and other small projects
I'll buy that rental house, I'm trying to relocate to east Tennessee from Florida
Well played
Does anybody go through your scrap pile for sneaker projects?
Oh I got stories about tenants. That’s why I only rent to respectable elders. Advertise through a local church.
Question Sir. Do you have videos going over the details of running a sawmill business? I’m looking to get the LX55. It’s a cheap beginners saw. But I only have 6 acres. I’m looking to put together a few enterprises for a homestead. Thank you for your time.
So when exactly are we going to have a giant bonfire/ cookout?
I miss my Tractor
Question answered, than you .
yes sir,
The only thing I can say is that there wasn't a spike or nail in that log. Wasted wood but no damage to the mill.
Renters for the most part are terrible.i took 3 truck loads out of the last one I did.5 yard dump truck.
yes sir, why we sold!!
Couldn't flip on side and get a few good boards out the sides.
I'm sure there's someone watching that could use that bug damaged popular for a project.
Kind of funny that as soon as you move the wind chimes, the next couple of boards slide off to the right instead of the left. Another adjustment coming soon?
yes worked on that today,
There's an "axes & ales" place in my little town. What could go wrong?😀
lol
Love the drone footage, but... when do you have time?????
Does it matter if you cut from the but? Or from the top? Don’t want any waves in my wood
I was rehabbing rentals last summer. Too much work for the money.
I wish I lived closer to you! I'd buy that poplar off you and make chesspieces out of it!
With the different wood that you cut. Has your mill had any problems cutting any certain logs up?
no sir,
Nathan, fairly new subscriber so forgive me if you answered this. What is the meaning behind the tattoo on your right bicep?
That's all they left you? More than one of my buddies have had to get roll off dumpsters....
Do you even need all four of the drag-back fingers on the idler side of the head? Would you ever drag back a board that wide?
Or guide fingers
yes,
