    Wow such an amazing close up of Pily 🤗 And he so nicely caught the ant he dropped at the end! 🤩

      Thanks! This is actually a female. I was lucky she allowed me to get so close, though I wish I was using a lens with stabilization because it's quite shaky.

      @@PittsburghBirdPhotographer Oops my bad 🤓 Usually female birds are so less colorful, I assumed it was a male 🤪 Lesson learned! And I just looked it up and she's only missing the little red line behind the beak...so pleased to see a female bird almost as colorful as the male 🤩
      Yes I'm very envious of you..We only see and hear the Pileated from afar, binoculars help though. We just love their call too, so vibrant!
