It's because he's thin and gangly, which makes him look like a teenager if you ignore the thickness of his beard. Also, his shoulders being so low from him leaning over makes him look smaller than his dad.

Can I just say Jonathan. I've been a fan of yours for a while now. Your covers are just amazing. This video actually made me watch a bit of it at first then go and watch the actual movie for the first time as this song is very catchy and my sort of music. Then I came back to your cover and loved it more than I knew I would already. I listen to this more than once daily. It's become my favourite cover of your's by far. How alike you sound like Max is quite outstanding and may I just state that your dad's Goofy impression is spot on. It's kinda inspired me to work on my own impression, as I myself am trying to become an impressionist/voice actor when I'm older.
