You tell em ' cause not only are 95% of ppl are oblivious, but the same group of the oblivious don't realize how much the bible contradicts itself. I hate organized religion. I've been accused of being possessed ,but I have also been violently attacked by a pastor of a holy roller church.Karma killed him shortly after. He crushed my throat.I had to spend time in a hospital in Youngstown! Yuck...but then time after time preachers have done inhumane things in front of me and to my family members. I'll stick with the part of the Bible that says he's everywhere and you're supposed to pray alone... And the God I believe in is the one that tries to love good ppl .
Legit, Simon I hope you never stop having some tangents through the story. I also hope you never stop sharing your thoughts. These are the things that really make your shows shine for me. You add levity, you add interest, you literally scream in frustration what your viewers/listeners are thinking, and it's all just comfortable communication through each story. It really becomes 100% better as a result!
As someone who is a pagan and was very active in pagan circles in the late 90s early 2000s, you always get at least one person claiming to be a 50th generation witch, betrothed to some deity or other. Or who claims to travel to the otherworld and hang out with various gods Edit: this woman sounds like my ex, she had NPD and would insist on these wild claims. And try to one up everyone in the stupidest ways possible, or just belittle them if she couldn't one up them. And if that didn't work she'd play the victim and claim abuse
Yes I know exactly what you’re talking about! It’s beyond annoying to deal with. As an American I also get a lot of people claiming to be direct descendants of the “witches” who were burned at the stake at Salem
Oh dang, I'm not taking much stock in it but my family is directly related to the OG colonists. I may be related to some cool spooky dudes by a pretty close relation
I'm pagan too! I mean, I do say I have a God spouse, but it's more like a thing similar to Catholic nuns except I'm allowed to have a sex life if I wanted to😂. I'm also a panthiest so I believe everything is fine to believe what they wish, but if it hurts yourself or others that is 100 percent NOT ok! When I say hurt I mean physically, emotionally, and mentally. ❤
I had a worker like this... The "One Upper".... So one day I was just not having it. I starting spitting the biggest pile of bullshit and just.kept building off that. The other employees had to suddenly "get tools" as they went to die laughing. And YET.... This guy still tried to one up me on parts of my bullshit. It was Great to see him try.... He was fired a few days later for unrelated reasons.
Really? I see hipster glasses and hipster beard and hear intelligence and curiosity and a sardonic sense of humour, and I think "high probability you have been, or will become, a goth. I should ask this person the test question of if they like The Sisters of Mercy." The stereotypes are a bit different from the outside perspective maybe
The churchy school Simon went to was Church of England/Anglican. An Anglican friend of mine once described it as "Catholic Lite" -- all the guilt, but you can get a divorce.
which is a protestant branch and "priest school" at least in catholic contest is seminar though in Finland the lutheran priests just study theology in normal universities.
Hi Fact Boy, big fan. South Africa actually has four capitals. Pretoria is the administrative capital, Cape Town is the legislative capital, Bloemfontein is the judicial capital and Johannesburg is the unofficial financial capital of South Africa because our stock exchange is here (JSE). And the priest school is called a seminary or theological college.
I feel bad for Marcel and LaRoux, too. They had watched their mother kill Zak's wife, because she wouldn't help kill people. And, considering how many times the older people had killed...and gotten away with it.. I don't blame them, at all, for doing what they were told. If they hadn't, I'm 100% convinced we'd be hearing not about 11 murders, but 13.
As an American, I personally take immense pleasure in the moments when Simon makes fun of Americans! I never heard his televangelist impression before, it’s perfect, I’m dead😂
Also as an American, I could care less when he makes fun of Americans for stuff like the televangelism thing, but when he talks about how the overturning of the roe v wade case is somehow taking away freedom it’s frankly annoying. If he did the same research that is fine for these cases he would know that roe v wade was objectively decided on sketchy legal ground in the first place (no matter what your opinion on the politics of the situation is) and there was damn near 50 years for it to be codified into an amendment/legislation that can’t just be overturned. Finally, and most importantly, the overturning of roe v wade LITERALLY gives the power to decide a states laws on abortion back to the people of that state. It doesn’t outlaw or criminalize abortion across the country, it simply gives the people of the state the ability to choose what they want to do about the abortion issue. That’s more democratic than when roe v wade was in place. This is not me supporting either side, just giving the facts. Nothing I said here was biased before anyone attacks me for being some sort of woman hater. I actually personally think that abortion should be allowed up to a reasonable point. Most European countries have stricter abortion laws than most of the US anyhow. All I know is I’m glad that Simon realizes that talking about politics or other shit like roe v Wade is just not what we all come to the channel for.
@@Tornnnado thanks for the grammar checkup and ok? That’s your opinion I guess. I’m not saying whether it’s right or wrong I’m just explaining why it happened and how it has nothing to do with “freedom”
@@PutinsMommyNeverHuggedHim ok? What does that have to do with what I said? You can’t move the goalposts to something I never brought up or said I supported. I personally think that is stupid law and the people should have some degree of choice, whether that is the mother having a choice to abort or not to abort or it’s the people of the state voting on whether it should be allowed and if so what the cutoff is for when a child can be aborted. You never asked me and just assumed what I believe in because you impulsively commented (probably because you had some kind of emotional reaction to what I said for some reason). You brought up some other thing because nothing I said can be attacked since it’s just a fact.
@@jelehan88 There are other schools that aren't CoE, we also have Roman Catholic schools as well as schools for different religions that aren't Christianity
I always get jolted with South African true crime cases, because my first instinct is to be supportive of literally anything my country does, but then I remember "this is homicide, not rugby, put your damn flag down girl" and the inertia is whiplash worthy. My candyfloss brain gets obliterated by Johannesburg rain every two minutes and it still hasn't recalibrated after 26 years
I feel genuinely sad. They could have had a bright future. I hope they can find some measure of peace, even though they are criminals... Honestly, what options did they have? They'd have been killed.
I think what most of us find fascinating about cults.....it's hard to see how 'normal' people find time for it without hints to those closest to them, until it's too late. I think that those of who do watch these things are just trying to be as knowledgeable as possible about the psychology of these situations and how best to diffuse them at every possible stage
I've always believed the sentiment that anybody could fall for a cult, it just depends on which one - but I never saw the appeal. Then I watched a doc on one and realized that yea, I would've fallen for it if I were there in the 70s. I won't hype them, but they were legitimately helpful for the first decade or so.
Scientology is particularly interesting to me because it's two different systems. The spiritual side is garbage. How did nobody question the sci-fi writer about his sci-fi religion? Well, the other side. The health and determination seminars actually help. If religion were removed, Scientology would be a flood weight-loss program.
As a Wiccan with 35 years of experience who is also a retired Counselor and a Social Science/Anthropology Major, I find some people's tendency to label Minority or New Religious Movements as cults kind of annoying. According to Social Scientists, Law Enforcement and the FBI, a spiritual path or religion becomes a "destructive cult" when it fits very specific criteria, mostly about the unquestioning following of a "semi Divine" leader or guru like figure regarded with near worship ( I am *not* talking about most Christians here) and the surrender of free will and resources. Obviously, engaging in practices that harm the self or others can be part of it. What is described here is definitely Cultish, and there's no way I would recognize any one here as actual Witches. Wicca was described by one Sociologist as a "Counter-cult" because we are so disorganized and independent minded.
Being a cocktail bartender, I watched the end of the ad and was like “dammit he’s right I have to get out of bed and make a tasty cocktail to watch the CC with” and I did, and it was nice.
Shaker and Spoon is probably a great sponsor for this channel. Have a cocktail, hear about some murder. What they need to do is make a Criminalist box and really theme it up for the audience. A bloody Mary is pretty basic, but sipping a bloody Mary while listening to a story about bloody Mary? Seems perfect. There's probably a whole assortment of serial killer and bank heist cocktails, come on!
I would love the heck out of that! I’d definitely order a box or two! My friends and I love true crime and having a crime + cocktail party would be fantastic!
So there we go crime people!! We could collectively have a start up that would be great fun and interactive. And surely local vineyards would love a chance to expand their clientele. : ) ♡
Both of those things can be true at the same time. Many (most?) religions don't use the Bible to excuse their politics and their hate; just the loudest ones.
If you are willing to bend reality far enough anything can excuse anything. Which bothers me because we all can do that while thinking we're being logical.
Almost the entirety of the Torah is debatable. That's what pharecees were. Its why there was a religious panel of authority to argue about absolutely everything. Ya know the old trope....Jews and lawyers and all....❤😂
I feel like its not really fair that Marcel got a sentence similar to zak, cecelia, and mirinda, despite being the most "innocent" out of them all, and literally spilling the beans about everything. The fact that her brother got a far lesser sentence and will actually be able to have a life outside of prison, despite being the one doing most of the killing, is insane.
She wasn't really innocent though. It's been pointed out that she was active in the planning. If you have enough self awareness to plan a murder, multiple times even, then you have enough self awareness to be an "adult". She was perfectly aware of the consequences of what she was doing, and was concentrating effort on getting around that fact by planning murders. Her brother on the other hand was just a goon. It was still possible to argue that he never developed enough to be culpable. Most trials basically revolve around intent. If all it took was circumstantial evidence, there would be no need for a defense, everyone would be in jail and we'd just have a bunch of witch hunts.
Love hearing Simon tackle the South African stories if not for the strangeness of the cases then definitely for him attempting the name pronounciations😂
@@Hommelbytjie04 my mother in law "dated" Stander (was kept prisoner by him), for 2 years, so I know a lot about the case. Despite the horrible story, the pronunciation struggle did provide good comic relief. Not being a native myself I totally understand the struggle 😅
This case was truly a nightmare...I feel so terrible for the children, even if they were able to think for themselves. I think they should have been given some serious leniency, especially the 14-year old. She had the courage to tell everything and took responsibility of her actions, regardless of the circumstances that give her innocence in my mind. I don't usually feel bad for young people that do these things, but this one hit me a bit harder.
We must accept that the police are not special and are simply petty humans (and a lot of time much worse) and were most likely, very angry that she didn't relent earlier under their "questioning" and that she waited until court to finally admit everything. They were pissed off and only know how to retaliate. But really think about it, what options did this kid really have? Not many . What should/could she have done in this monstrously awful situation, when that c++t is your mother and is it a reasonable expectation? Honestly? However, if the stunningly inept police weren't absolutely horrible bumbling idiots and did the job that any marginally intelligent random person could have done here, that we pay so much of our tax dollars for, and with these deadly but remarkably stupid and brazen criminals, that kid might have had a chance at a different life but nope. Not only did her family fail her miserably but she was also massively failed by law enforcement and the legal system. She's was just another victim of these unimaginably awful real life monsters. Grim.
@@simo3873 First off, most of what you are saying is conjecture. You can't state that sort of stuff with any degree of certainty because you don't actually know. Second, she was failed by humans. That is it. When it comes down to it, none of us are any more perfect than another because we are all human. In the fact that we are all human, we also all have choices, including her. Regardless of if she was a child or not, she had the ability to make choices. She was not blindly following anything, even if it may have seemed like it, due to the fact that she ended up speaking up. This indicates that she knew what she was doing was wrong, that what her mother was doing was wrong, and therefore, is taking accountability for her own actions, which is an extremely mature thing to do. I think you should really step back and figure out what grace is before you write such scathing things about people, institutions as a whole, and situations that you weren't even part of. Your entire reply was filled with unnecessary hatred that isn't helping anyone out, it's only spreading more hatred and bias of people that usually don't deserve it. I work with first responders as a necessary role in the medical field, and the actions of few are very much not a representation of the whole. There are many, MANY honorable people out there. This is how prejudice is born, so please knock it off.
@@simo3873 100% agree, the Police failed her. Her lack of a future is just as much on their hands as all the excess murders that happened due to their failure to competently investigate the first murders. She didnt have a choice at the end of the day, it was do or die according to her own mother.
I watched literally dozens and dozens of true crime channels. ( I used literally in the proper sense and not the newly accepted figurative sense.) [That tangent was for you Simon. ☺️] And the reason I watch you tell stories I have heard several times over is because of the sarcastic and elaborate writing styles and your endless takes and tangents during the story with just the right amount of self-deprecation. Episode 1 Simon: The death penalty is a really serious and complicated topic and it's hard to really say who should get to decide who lives or dies. Simon now: "Hey Siri, does South Africa have the death penalty?" True crime is taking it's toll on the fact boi.
As a South African listening to this, your pronunciation of some names was very entertaining. The reason some of the names sound Dutch is because they're Afrikaans, a language that is derived from Dutch. I love your videos and also listen to the podcast at times. You, the writers and the editor are all amazingly talented.
A personal talisman of mine, is: "I don't get murdered." It seems a sufficient rebuking🤷🏾♀️ but I like that as a continuance "and that's why I've never been murdered." It's a power stance lol

As an alternative “goth” person I’m giggling at the fact Simon asked if goths still exist, I often forget that not everyone interacts with alternative people on a daily basis
Tbf, I thought the same. I haven’t seen any goths since the early 2000s. It all went big Jinko jeans after that. Then I just stopped paying attention. Lol. Fashion is fascinating but so weird.
Yeah, I haven't seen a goth since high school (or at a weird concert of angry screaming people using way too much fake blood I ended up at through a series of unfortunate events), and I'm Simon's age, so I get it.
Imagine being a husband or a son of that last victim, Hanlé Lategan. They were so close to saving her, noticing the suspicious activity and notifying the police not long after they last spoke to her. And still, it was too late. That must have been heartbreaking. Imagine the guilt - they knew that someone is targeting insurance agents, so they in their minds they are probably like "we could have prepared just a bit better system for protecting her". This is going to haunt them forever - I know it would haunt me. This is so sad.
As a person who has been to every flavor of church we have in Texas, it's pretty good. (I'm a godless heathen like Simon, so I volunteered to work Sundays when I was working for the newspaper. Slow news day? Some church is having an anniversary celebration.)
I find it so unbelievably annoying, by far my least part of almost every episode almost as annoying as I find the fact he tells literally the exact same stupid anecdotes on almost every flipping episode also...just so boringly irrelevant over and over and over.
Southern accents in America is just a slower version of middle English. The American south was overwhelmingly settled by the British. People from other parts of Europe seem to have landed farther north, for the most part.
As it should. Judges are simply egotistical. The court can function just fine while the alleged "insults" occur. Whats especially bad is if they hear african american vernacular and they consider it disrepectful so they send kids to jail for 30 days over it., Its insane and its racist. Ive seen it dozens and dozens of times while advocating for troubled youth
Can confirm. Got caught with an empty container of weed and flipped off a cop. Judge made me stay in jail by myself at the beginning of covid (he let the other women go home) because I'd flipped off the badge. I did 43 days alone. For some fucking weed. Fucking assholes.

I'd love to see a video on Ernest Lee Johnson, a man whose own appeals lead to him being sentenced to death 3 times for the same murders. It's a pretty interesting case, and without spoiling too much, there was a lot of debatable context when it came to his sentencing. As much as Simon likes to debate himself about the death penalty, I'm curious where his opinions would fall.
Thank you, Simon, for being respectful about religion. My faith has saved my life multiple times, but I recognize there is are crazies out there that use faith to back up their ugly beliefs. And I have no idea how those people think or process things. I’m so sick of people calling themselves Christians and being hateful. The hypocrisy is dizzying, and only makes things worse. As a Christian who loves everyone, EVERYONE, I would love to give everyone this piece of advise. If someone tells you that you are going to hell, snap right back that you’ll see them there. Hatred is the biggest sin you can commit, and there’s a lot of assholes who forget that while getting mixed up in their biases.

Your longer scripts uncover details that other channels miss, so it's as if I'm hearing about the story for the first time.
Goth is absolutely still a thing though most of us above 13 years old aren't "satanic" or "witches". We also aren't just the stereotype "all black victorian" dress. There's varieties, and it's more based on music and literature base than clothing. No, I'm also not gatekeeping, just explaining. Keep up the great work Simon
since all kinds of people listen to ministry, lacuna coil, craddle of filth, iron maiden, genitorturers, proteus, depeche mode, atari teenage riot, prodigy, new order, NiN, WASP or whatever you'd count as 'goth' music it really is a stylistic thing. same with the books. it's not like it's a philosophy like satanism or something. though I wouldn't be surprised if someone selling books hijacked the term to say that "if you're goth you gotta read this book".
@@lasskinn474 most of what you named wouldn’t fall into Goth. The lifestyle CAME from the music, it’s literally the basis and history of it. There are also books included in different genres of Goth, but the Goth movement came from the music.

Simon, as an American woman, I want to say thank you for saying that about women being deprived of our bodily autonomy. The people ranting on about freedom only believe in freedom for themselves and people who look, think, and believe the way they do. They are not the majority, but they have people in powerful places (such as the SCOTUS) & are currently in the process of forcing their religious beliefs on the rest of us. They've all been pissed off since women got the vote & there are still laws on the books calling women the "chattel" of their husbands. They became even more pissed off when The Civil Rights Act was passed and have been working diligently to undo the freedoms that they consider oppression bc it's freedom for people other than themselves.

My favorite part of this episode at 27 minutes in is Simon realizing there will be murders, says "Oh the next section is called the bloody Revenge Murders?!" cut to the title screen repeating "The Revenge Murders."
I worked at the used car dealer that Zack bought the Mercedes Benz from, after his "Death" two cops came into the dealership wanting to see the service records we had on the car...we gave them what they needed and they never came back...they said that they had witness testimony that he was deeply depressed about the murder of his wife and were chalking the incident up to a suicide... I left the dealership and the country in early 2016, seeing this and it dawning on me who he was and what was actually going on has just dropped my jaw!
I actually used to be great friends with LeRoux and went to school together. This is what happens when you shelter your children and don't socialize them nearly enough... I've come in contact with soooo many adults that grew up in very religious, overly sheltered, odd little bubbles, with the same rarely changing social circles. 90% or more of the time these people were VERY gullible, overly trusting, and awkward in most social interactions, especially when meeting a new person. Most seemed to be searching for acceptance and would go above and beyond, oftentimes to their detriment, just to be liked by someone. Sadly these people are perfect targets for con-artists and cults looking to recruit impressionable and gullible people..

Grew up in a small town in Texas. Back in the 90s I got reported for being a ‘Devil Worshipper’. (Actually never even learned about Satanism till I was an adult) Had churches showing up at my home, people would nail Bible scriptures to our door and other weird crap. Being a teenager I found this hysterical and did goofy stuff to egg it on. Years later, like early 2000s, my Husband was applying for a job at the local sheriffs department. He was definitely qualified for the job. Ex military and had just graduated from the local police academy 5th in his class. He’s in the middle of the interview and out of nowhere they ask him if he was a ‘devil worshiper’ or had any affiliation with ‘devil worshipers’. Somehow someone had tipped them off that he was married to the local ‘devil worshiper’. 🤣 He didn’t get the job and went on to join the Fire Department. 🙃
After so many episodes of really dark stuff like serial killers, I recommend a more lighthearted topic such as the Phantom Patriot. Still a felon, but in a more comical fashion.
I think the blind reading format is awesome. It's very unique and the commentary makes the content so much more engaging. I would love to see this format experimented with your biographics/warographics channel. Not sure if you can vision how that would work but if you decide..... Even keeping in mind her participation in all the heinous crimes, it is mind boggling and terrifying to imagine locking a teenager, whose brain is only just growing out of infancy, in a prison for the rest of their lives. Terrifying.
I suppose 50+ years in the future they might have developed programs for people such as her to have a little more Life in their lives, if she's still got too many years on to even make it to parole.
Simon, come visit your Grandmother, or have her come visit you. You might learn that Le Roux is with the Roux pronounced like the end of kangaroo, and that SA police are generally less than stellar, seeing as they have been very much damaged by the more competent ones leaving for other countries, where they get better pay, and less likely to be shot on the job. Also Krugerdorp is a satellite city of the largest city in the entire continent of Africa, you would be hard pressed to cut it out on a map these days, the sprawling thing that is the entire province of Gauteng, with the number plate ending in GP, with the song to go with it as well, Gangsters Paradise.
So many UA-cam channels that seem to be Narrated by a basic text to speech app and they're BORING!!! But when Simon's having fun with a video, I find that I'm having fun too.
I had the same thing with an unexpected visitor. A neighbours friend was waiting for him to get home so he knocked on my door hoping to wait at my place. I was living in public housing at the time so there was no way I was letting a random friend of my meth addicted neighbour wait in my flat until he got home. We just stood at the door with my security screen door locked talking trivial shit whilst I passive aggressively denied him entry.
Two things I really think you ought to consider. You should google the difference between "askers" and "guessers" or "ask culture and guess culture." What you described almost fits perfectly with what the situation describes. You are a for sure guesser. Do you actually know theyre meth users? No offense but there is a stigma that exists regarding meth and its often wrong, what youre seeing is poverty, malnutrition, no healthcare/dentist, & simply an outright difficult life. Get this. Meth doesnt directly cause tooth decay or loss despite the absolute certainty people claim it does. its actually just dry mouth that causes it. Meth happens to cause dry mouth but so do doctor prescribed & correctly used amphetamines for ADHD, and so does soda. Same with sleep apnea, etc. But the look of damaged teeth/ground down teeth that causes the chin to look different is considered a for sure sign of meth use and its complete bullshit. So You might want to not judge people so much. You likely know loads of people who use hard drugs and have absolutely no clue. It aint a big deal though. Most people are harmless...even if on drugs.

If you want a real Dexter-like character, there actually is one! A UK serial killer who only killed pedophiles and who was (is?) famously kept in solitary confinement in a glass cage. This is because if he's put in general population in prison he'll start killing pedophiles he encounters again. He asked to be put in said glass cage because he didn't want to kill again, but knew he wouldn't be able to stop himself. I cannot for the life of me remember his name, though. While they did have DID due to childhood sexual abuse it was not that high (5-10 personalities) and no satanism involved. Certainly not the entire town and so one.

Cults are terrifying but weirdly fascinating to learn about.
Every religion is acult until it's big enough. Look at the abrahamic religions. If enough people follow anything, it can become a religion.

Honestly? Nice 👌🏾, I really appreciate this- did you title them, yourself?
Edit: no, you clearly didn't lol
Your dedication is admirable. Thank you 😊
I'd love to see a video on Ernest Lee Johnson, a man whose own appeals lead to him being sentenced to death 3 times for the same murders.
My dear, either way, if your belief makes you a better person, then it's all good. Take care and best wishes ❤
If you have to distance yourself from fundamentalism, there is something wrong with your religions fundamentals.
@@Skeptic78 you mean the fundamentals, of Christ's preachings?- Cause that sounds pretty aligned, to me
"Why aren't these people in jail?!" Oh sweet innocent Simon....this is South Africa. Also love how English people pronounce Afrikaans names XD
The Casual Criminalist is one of my favorites of Simon's. You're writers are amazing and your rants and add libs make the story easier to listen to. I also always like a fellow non-believer re: ghosts and gods. Thanks
As an American, Simon's American accent is one of my favorite things 😂
The Critical Drinker......
He said it on a different episode I watched earlier that he only has 2 American accents 😂 (1) Southern and (2) stoner surfer dude
honestly he is would be a GREAT southern preacher XD
@@genieyamaguchi2571 I’m guessing you think Britain has only two accents. The one being the way the royal family speaks and Dick Van Dykes Cockney. I’m Irish so I guess you think all Irish people speak like Colin Farrell 🤣

I know you've said that it's not in your channel's financial interest to do longer videos or a video series, but I really do enjoy these longer investigations, especially into popular crime stories.
Keep up the great work Simon
anyone leaning towards goth under the age of 20 has been convinced to cut their tits off and call themselves Steve; its a BTGG genocide 😢
since all kinds of people listen to ministry, lacuna coil, craddle of filth, iron maiden, genitorturers, proteus, depeche mode, atari teenage riot, prodigy, new order, NiN, WASP or whatever you'd count as 'goth' music it really is a stylistic thing. same with the books. it's not like it's a philosophy like satanism or something.
though I wouldn't be surprised if someone selling books hijacked the term to say that "if you're goth you gotta read this book".
@@lasskinn474 most of what you named wouldn’t fall into Goth. The lifestyle CAME from the music, it’s literally the basis and history of it. There are also books included in different genres of Goth, but the Goth movement came from the music.
@@AbbyBane. goth movement? someone hijacked the whole style saying it's their movement or someshit? hellfire club with proteus playing fire sets didn't have goths in it along with just trance and metal style people? 'goths' didn't listen to new order/joy division?
on practical level it's a stylistic thing as a subculture. later there's just more niche bands that market exclusively to people subscribing to the style or who look up stuff to how to be goth or what they should listen if they're 'goth' to belong in a group they perceive. not so much in say finland where dressing up like that is so common that it doesn't make them part of anything, much less so than rockabillys anyway.
cyberpunk a literary subgenre has suffered different faith though where it wasn't a style thing, but people who like a certain aesthetic have completely taken over cyberpunk forums and based the whole thing around cosplaying being a 'cyberpunk' with clean fake future tech props(not that most people should or could emulate cyberpunk stories anyway, not really helped that a hacking story about stealing money from a brothel that would have been cyberpunk in 80s is just contemporary fiction now).
@@lasskinn474 I’m not going to read all that for you to argue on a comment I made almost a year ago. Right fight else where.
Simon (on the yearly salary) astonished :" That seems very low... "
Me (living in South Africa) : "yep, that is very low, but also correct".
Most people here can barely make ends meet...
As a ressedint of Krugersdorp I can honestly say that the effect thet this case and the relevant shows had on our ones beutyfull town is large, a once loved town now feared by every one. Great show thanks for bringing the facts instead of opinions.
“That famous quote..” about talking to god vs. god talking to you: I had thought Simon came up with that himself! 😂
As a South African, I find it hilarious that Simon thinks the police can do half the shit he thinks they can.
They do shit but not the right sort!
Especially since going to the police is literally the last course of action we take. Someone breaks into your house, or kills someone....sure. But I wouldn't have called the police if someone slashed my tyres either, unless the insurance company requested me to.
Truth
Very true, unfortunately.
great, just what i want to read before watching the video.... verwagtinge te hoog! xD
This was horrifying. They found the first victim 2 streets from my house. I can remember the craze with these people when they were caught and tried. It was absolutely bizarre!
Simon you are an awesome host. The extra commentary is well worth watching these podcasts. I love that last one Divorce is a Sin. lol! It is great to see some levity during these horrific crimes and the people responsible for them. So thank you for doing these shows. It doesn't even matter how long they are either I could watch like a six hour show with you and wouldn't even notice the time go by. That is sign of a great host. You look like a professional bartender. Every thing you do has flare. lol!
"alternatively, you could fuck off." Has to be one of the most British comebacks I've ever heard 😂
As a South African I would love to give you some context. Our police force is slightly broken, our currency is volatile, and our laws are interesting. 😅⭐️
It was really entertaining to watch this video thank you so much!
Slightly siesie? 😏
Sounds like the nice way one might describe america... i mean...ffs we have more black folks locked up than apartheid. I don't even know how thats even fucking possible considering...

Fair to be confused, South Africa has multiple capital cities....
Parliamentary capital: Cape Town
Government capital: Pretoria
Judicial capital: Bloemfontein
Economic capital: Johannesburg
I'm literally listening to this while commuting on the train, thinking what could go wrong with a harmless cas crim? Just burst out laughing out loud at "what am I thinking of? It's a toasted cheese sandwich!" and everyone looked at me really weird! Thanks Simon! Allegedly.
Thumbs up for the 'allegedly'.
I think the biggest difference between cults and religions is that you are free to leave a religion, you aren't free to leave a cult.
Your freedom should not end the life of another human being.
Not a human until it can breathe on its own, but a parasitic collection of non-viable tissue. You might as well argue that cancer is more important than its host.
Thank you so much, Simon, for trying so hard to make sure your children will not grow up to be serial killers! We all appreciate it!
My favorite part of this episode at 27 minutes in is Simon realizing there will be murders, says "Oh the next section is called the bloody Revenge Murders?!" cut to the title screen repeating "The Revenge Murders."
Read this EXACTLY as it happened and giggled too. Lmao.
Youuu sirr, just gained a new subscriber. ❤
You’re funny and you have a dope storytelling style.
Good stuff my guy, good stuff.
Never wanted the Monty Python "GET ON WITH IT" clip more in a video in my life !!
I actually used to be great friends with LeRoux and went to school together. My mom is the vice principal where his mom taught, and my mom broke the news to me that it was them who were involved in the murders. The last victim was my other friend's aunt. Safe to say that it was a massive shock when we found out who the killers were
Thank you Jen for all of pictures of all of the characters! We would have been lost without you.

Simon you are so funny! No matter how awful your subject is you always put a smile on my face at some point!
LMFAO @ "--And that's why I've never been murdered." I need to say this more often.
"You could change your name" "Grow a beard, shave your head, get a pair of glasses"
So, Simon, what's your REAL name?😂
I'm LOVING the longer episodes!!!
Watching this the first week in 2023. My new phrase for the year, "Alternatively, you can fuck off". Thank you, Simon for starting my new year on the right foot.
Simon is so adorably funny and these tangents are hilarious 😂😂😂
As a goth of 33 years I can affirm that yes Simon there are still goths!
I blame shego from kim possible for instilling "goth girl that could definately hurt me" as my type but i am not mad in the slightest, some goths get a really bad wrap from what ive witnessed, really sucks, goths should make a comeback for sure
"Why doesn't Simon have nightmares?" because he obviously can't remember most things. Lile the word Seminary. lol
He didn’t get the job and went on to join the Fire Department. 🙃
I have family in Texas. This doesn’t surprise me. Backward ass state.
He's probably safer there.
Its hilarious that he cold really really easily win a lawsuit over that question

When you decide you want more channels think about what you could do in this format.
I love you Simon but Jen's edits were truly incredible this episode!!!!!
Without Jen's amazing work, this show would be a lot less impressive.

"Alternatively you can fuck off" is entering my vernacular immediately. 😂
fantastic episode, hope they keep coming ... i grew up in Minneapolis, being in the country (even at "cabin site 2" which is a cluster of abt 20 other cabins where my extended family's vacation home is) skeeves me out... it's comforting to know that if I needed to scream for help, someone in my apartment building would be able hear.

Even keeping in mind her participation in all the heinous crimes, it is mind boggling and terrifying to imagine locking a teenager, whose brain is only just growing out of infancy, in a prison for the rest of their lives. Terrifying.
Welcome to authoritarian regimes.
I suppose 50+ years in the future they might have developed programs for people such as her to have a little more Life in their lives, if she's still got too many years on to even make it to parole.
Hey Simon and team you should give Siri a pay raise for calculating Rand to Dollars so much in this video 😂😂😂
Once?
Bro I listen to all your 150 channels in my buds throughout my workday. Your storytelling voice and attitude about things is soothing. 😂😂
You should google the difference between "askers" and "guessers" or "ask culture and guess culture."
What you described almost fits perfectly with what the situation describes.
@@titaniusanglesmith9690 Not to play Devil's Advocate but also they did preface they were in Public Housing, which, it's a higher possiblity of being addicted to any sort of dug taking into account the likely background. Also, um, projection much? You guessed that they only *guessed* this, you guessed they're a guesser. Doesn't that also make you a guesser? No drugs don't inherently make you a worse person, but you can for sure be a shitty person on drugs.
@@titaniusanglesmith9690 Or, maybe, just maybe, because it's his neighbor, he knows the dude in on meth? It's not exactly hard to find out when someone who literally lives next to you is on something. Hell, the neighbor might be open about it. So maybe take your own advice and don't judge. Seems like your really stretching here champ.
For some reason I think it's Tommy something or other? Edit: His name Robert John Maudsley. Thank you to Petro, who corrected me down below!
