Found it! The horse was EKTIHAAM, a Maktoum horse who was the favorite, who apparently along with his jock survived fine, according to one article. Took a while to find article that would mention it!
Yes, it's horrible. I watched both Ruffian and Barbaro. I cried for weeks. But I would not ban horse racing. For me, I relax and know joy on the back of a running horse! My first Derby was Chateaugay. I heard tales of Native Dancer and Man O War as a little girl. Watched Northern Dancer win his Derby. I can no longer ride and don't have the speed to avoid an unhappy equine. So much for my DVM. If I had to give up watching horse racing, I would sit down in a corner and disappear!
As the other comments state, they believe it was a heart attack. I can only assume a post mortem (or whatever they do) will determine the cause of death.
They weren't born to "graze in fields"...if you knew anything about these horses you would know that they love to run and race and hate being stood still.

What you didn't have the balls to say was that they were born for money, prestige and the entertainment for humans. The horses DO get a choice! If you watch the Ascot race with Mad Moose you'll see what I mean, he didn't want to leave the stalls, so he didn't, a tiny little jockey can't make a tonne of horse to anything it doesn't want to do. Also, regarding your other post, they are not "whipped to death"...they don't DIE from being whipped and most of the time the jockey only shows the horse the whip rather than actually hitting it. I recommend you don't speak about topics you don't understand.

No, it's called breeding for speed at the sacrifice of the horse's bone size & density and riding them years (yes, I mean years) before their skeletal structures are mature. If no horses raced before they were 4, this kind of thing would be reduced.
That was terrible how thomas chippendale died and it breaks my heart to see an animal die like that i love horse racing but something has to be done about the amount of horses that fall get injured or killed there should be a serious enquiry on making it more safer how they do it i dont know and i remember the day Thomas Chippendale died 😢😢😢😢😢😭
Humans have heart attacks during/after racing . This could have happened with the horse running around a field. It is a tragedy and is awful to see but could happen to any human or animal !!! What do you think would happen to all the other horses if they banned racing !!
Great horse. Very sad to see however this happens to athletes from time to time. Racing is not a heartless sport. On the contrary. These horses are loved and cared for better than most riding school hacks. Before judging you should go to newmarket or ballydoyle and see for yourself. Most training facilities are like five star horse hotels! Horses love to run. I have seen horses die in the wild from exactly the same problem
100% Right ,I have seen lots of horses die From horse racing and more And the rider too ,Ur right racing is Abuse for horses and also u make them spooked by pulling on the reins makes them Freak out and Fall and lots more😢😓
