    Dear Jasmine: You are by far the best online teacher of pool ever! I was a teacher trainer for many years (not in pool). You know the basics of teaching: 1. Use simple language. 2. Show examples. 3. Talk clearly and slowly,. 4. Don't talk down to your students. 5. Don't show off. You've got it all! (Plus, you have a superb personality.) Thank you for setting a great example.

    Besides the reasons mentioned by Jasmin, I found three more that make me miss shots:
    1. Applying spin to shots that actually don't need it
    2. Playing too hard on long shots
    3. Thinking too much about the object ball and its path and losing focus on my stroke and cue action.

    The other way to look at missing shots are 3 main reasons. 1. Mental (whether you do not respect the game or your opponent, play under pressure etc., 2. Aiming (wrong aiming method or compensation techniques (throw, spin, pace etc.) that you do not care too much and lastly 3. Execution problems (pre-shot routine, stroke, timing, how to exert force on the shot etc.). I think every player should recall why he/or she missed shots and make corrections on the fly. Thanks for this video, it is useful and ring the bell for most of our problems.

    That is a real good video. I find women to be great teachers. I took a lesson with a local female pro (Houston) and really did not think I got much out of it except a wiggle in my transition.. I was dead wrong,, That lesson straightened out some bad habits and changed my game. Really liking this series.

    I needed this video. I was in a local competition last night and I lost 7-0 to a opponent who is 2 levels lower then me and he fluked the 9 ball 3 times. Partly also I missed 2 straightforward 9 ball that I usually pot it consistently during practice.

    Great tutorial! Another big reason one misses shots is when they’re drinking and commiserating with friends. I find this to be my biggest deflector. I don’t practice drills enough, I always just end up playing friends, which is just playing pool, not practicing it.

    One thing I found is that players do not dive into the physics of pool. They think that the balls (esp the CB) will obey their order (which is in their mind). With a lot of ego and pride, most shots failed or no "skill improvement" even played for years and years. We need patience and discipline, we need to respect all physical constraints and respect our opponent, right? Thanks for your video, it is good!

    The two catalysts for me was to develop a process that takes care of many of the fundamentals, and only focus on repeating the process. Not being concerned on make the ball. Making the shot is a side effect of repeating that process well.
    The second catalyst, is attitude. With the right attitude, you should feel a good amount of pressure in which, if you remain confident and focused, you will rise above your average skill. I'm mean you have to really want it and take it seriously but also leave emotions out of the equation, no matter the opponent or score. If you experience emotions, whether positive or negative, then you are living in the past or future. Which means you are not in the present moment, and your focus on your task will be subpar.
    When it's your turn, come into it like your the boss! You're the master!
    Breathe and believe baby!

    Champions tend to think in the bigger picture vs us mere mortals. Champions tend to take things in stride - eg “I made a judgment error and underestimated the deflection and will aim thicker on similar shots next time” vs “omg I was so STUPID and if I could have just made that stupid easy ball I’d be on the hill right now!”

    • @trailerwookie
      @trailerwookie Рік тому +1

      If possible, take him to a billiards supply store and let him try out different cues. I wouldn't spend much on an initial cue. You can purchase some good cues for $100 USD or less that will work just great. If he decides to get serious as he gets older, he can upgrade to a better cue as needed. McDermott sells their LUCKY brand cues in that price range and I am sure others do as well. Let him grow naturally into the game. I have 3 nephews I have introduced to the game and a 4th that in his last visit, he tried using a small cue instead of just rolling the balls around with his hands.

    Hello. I have been playing pool around 20 years and i would say that i am well experienced. I watched hundreds of pool lessons and tutorials but yet i never saw a lesson of how to adjust your timing instantly in the game which is personally the reason why i mostly lose my shots. Because i don't play pool on a daily basis and my fundamentals are not consistently solid my main problem is timing and i cannot adjust it instantly on a set with an opponent. Do you have any tips for this or could you post a tutorial about this issue? Thanks in advance.

    • @ngsaichin1
      @ngsaichin1 Рік тому +1

      I have an answer that might interest you. It is the speed that you play is NOT consistent. Try to play a little bit slow and FEEL the shot. Change to a better cue that suits your playing style. That could help. Have good time in pool game!

    • @christosnicolaou6165
      @christosnicolaou6165 Рік тому +1

      @ngsaichin1 speed is different than timing mate. Its a complete different thing and timing(IMHO) is the most important part of the hole "technique" aspect.
