The creators of this show wanted it to be as realistic as possible. That means the science behind gravity and lack of, how they travel through space without hyperspeed (Star Wars) or a warp drive (Star Trek) even the importance of water and oxygen and the consequences of not having it. This show won several awards for its scientific accuracy which is, in my opinion, what sets it apart from other sci-fi/space shows. I’m glade y’all enjoying it and hope you can react to the rest.😁😁
The Belter prisoner who had been ordered to undergo "gravity torture" by Avasarala was being transported off Earth in a space shuttle. He needed "the juice" to be injected into him to help survive via chemical enhancement the G forces required to launch out of Earth's gravity well, but he managed to move his long and skinny Belter neck our of range of the juice injectors, didn't get any juice, and the G forces killed him. It was a self-inflicted death. He died for his Cause, and did not have to endure any further torture.
@@edn You definitely spoke too soon! You about to see some serious savagery in the next two episodes. And that'll only be the start...it'll get even more savage after that.
the ships in this show, think of them like skyscrapers, with the engines on the bottom. The engines accelerate/push up constantly push the floor to your feet/body, to create artificial gravity. Any time you see a ship's engine shut off or get destroyed, there will be no gravity. When the people click their heals, they are turning on magnetic boots so they don't float off the floor. I eagerly await your reaction to episode 4 (I say that with an evil grin).
Can’t wait for y’all to get further in. I’m here for it. Amos is my favorite character. The one that was about to smoke ol’ boy. He’s a fuck around and find out kind of person. My favorite part of this one: “And it also sounds like someone received those hands.” - Adison
They train astronauts in a giant swimming pool to simulate movement in zero G. If I remember right they have a full-scale mockup of the International Space Station submerged in one. Gotta be easier for a belter to be a little buoyant in an environment where their muscles are so atrophied that they don’t have the strength to stand unassisted.
Omg you're watching The Expanse!!! Need to find your Episode 1 reaction asap - so beyond excited to see you guys starting this show. As others have stated, it does take a few episodes to get into it but after all the exposition is out of the way - it is a frickin amazing ride. Some of the best television out there. Enjoy!
Did y'all catch the name of the ship Julie took off in and the name of the ship that our Crew of 5 answered the distress call from? It's the same name. THE SCOPULI. That's important. Y'all talked each time they said it, so just remember that. Lol. I would try to remember the name of every ship mentioned. Also, "the ship tried to straight sabotage ya'll." And, "she's for space now," had me CACKLING. Lol. "I can tell they gone make a good team, they both like wasting water," was also HILARIOUS. That statement also had more layers than you realize. Haha. Btw, YES. Holden's gilfriend is DEAD, DEAD. She's not coming back. Haha. Also, Earth has water. The Belt (Ceres, Tycho, Eros, etc.) has limited air & water. Mars + Earth heavily controls how and when the Belters get it. Miller took Julie's water because he ran out due to the Canterberry never showing up to deliver it. Julie isn't there and had excess, so why not? Finally, think of this season being the question "what happened to Julie Mao?" That may help.
Gravity in the show works when the ships or space stations are in motion. If they're not moving, there is none, and that's why they click their heels together, to start up the magnets that let them walk. It's a great detail, and you'll be able to hear the "click" of the magnets all throughout the series when gravity is off.
Except it is not really "gravity". Let's start with the familiar. You're driving, and the light turns green, and you need to burn the carbon off some engine parts, so you tromp on the gas pedal, and the acceleration pushes you back into your seat. The lights are properly timed on that highway, so you arrive at a red light, stomp on the brakes, and your body is thrown foward into the shoulder belt. Acceleration and deceleration are forces that mimic the effect of gravity. Motion is not enough to do so. It is changes in motion which can mimic gravity. When a spaceship in The Expanse is under acceleration, the bodies of its passengers are pushed down towards the engine. When the engine is firing, the ship is constantly speeding up and pushiing the bodies of the passengers towards the engines. Cut off the engines, and the ship might be flying at high speed, but it is has become a constant high speed without there being any change in velocity, and the passengers will not be experiencing any thrust gravity. They will be in zero G. Spaceships in a hard science world have no brakes. If you want to slow down, you must flip the ship around and turn on the engines to decelerate, and while decelerating, the passengers will still enjoy thrust gravity. If the engines are shut down, the ship will no longer be under thrust and the passengers, absent magnetic boots, will be floating around.
@@Yesquire0 thanks that makes so much sense i pretty versed in some science but some how pre med did require much physics out side of basics and that is much better understood since most of us have never driven in space lol
@@itowilltube You and the producers of most far-future SF programs. My favorite is watching a spaceship in outer space, with no wings, banking gracefully like a bird, wings outstretched gracefully making a banking turn in a breeze despite the ship having no wings, and despite there being no air, and no breeze. BTW, you are most welcome.
@@itowilltube That was a good explanation about how the ships work. It also means the decks of the ships are stacked like the floors in a building, and not the decks on a cruise ship, right? The engines would be in the "basement" of the building, pointing "down." When they light up and start to accelerate the ship, the decks get pushed against the bottoms of the feet of the people walking around inside, like an elevator when it starts to go up. As long as the ship engines continue to accelerate the ship, the deck keeps getting pushed up, and it feels just like gravity. The other way is to spin something large, and walk around on the inside of it while the centrifugal force holds you against the inside of the rim. That's how stations work. They spin, and the people walk around on the inside, with their feet pointed "out" and their heads pointed toward the hub. The water came out of the bottle in a curve, because it's inside a spinning station.

The kid was smacking his head against the wall so he could yell "police brutality" as they dragged him to the station, insurance against getting an actual arrest so that the cops could avoid a public scandal
Hey, had to comment about the scene where Miller swished the water in his mouth and spit it back into the pitcher. Water IS valuable. The Governor put the water out as a show of weath/status/dick size, and Miller did a big 'fuck you' with that gesture. Which is interesting, as Miller works for Star Helix, who is the official police force for Ceres. Miller's got layers, he's a complex character. Hmm... then again, so is Amos. And the rest of our crew. I see a trend with this show. The characters have depth, and it sometimes takes time to get to know them. I look forward to you soaking it in!
