  • Learn Japanese through conversation! I practice speaking Japanese with Kurumi san, a Japanese community teacher on italki. It's a good listening practise resource for those studying beginner and intermediate Japanese.
I'm personally around the N3 level, although I still struggle a lot with speaking.
I used to benefit a lot from Benjiro san's italki videos so now I hope these will be helpful to other learners as well. Do subscribe if you'd like to see more of them!

I really enjoyed all your conversations with Kurumi! You both seemed comfortable with each other and like you were having a lot of fun. The translations helped so much, thank you for adding them. I plan to rewatch these conversations and note down new words and phrases.

Your accent & pronunciation is sooo good. You are inspiring !!^.^ I’m at lower N4 but I relate to your bio so much. Too much anxiety to try italki yet but I’ll continue watching your channel!!

Only N3? You seem to be communicating very well. Really, great job!! Happy for you. Had my first italki lesson today. Lots of 'はい’ by me, because I couldn't think of the words to reply naturally on the spot. Excited to continue, though. :)

    今回も面白く勉強になりました。😄
    24:48 字幕ですが、
    恋→行為(こうい)act
    「助けてあげる行為」と言っていました。
    余計なお世話だったらすみません!

Thank you again for your videos Germaine! I’m curious but how do you decide what kind of topics to talk about with the teacher? Is it the ones that you are not confident in? I noticed that you have been trying to have conversations in all sorts of topics. If it is me, I’m not even sure what conversation topics are good for me/requires practice so I always leave it up to the teacher to decide for me 😅😅

Hey Jason! Actually to be honest I wouldn’t mind if the teacher decides! But when I’m speaking to community tutors on italki, I feel like I need to do more prep work in terms of questions and topics, so I usually try to suggest topics in advance. I don’t really have a system for choosing topics because at the moment, I feel like most topics are still challenging for me as long as I have to go in depth when answering. I guess a good guide is trying to think what conversations I might have with other Japanese people in the future and then choosing to practise these topics with the teacher.

I think Benjiro is going to get jealous and come out of retirement. Lol... Keep it up!
