    I realize this is one and a half years old, but many people might end up here and I have a tip for them:
    The fins on PenBBS feeds are very delicate, and by grabbing them you easily bend a handful of them. Since it's relatively weak plastic, it's not simply a matter of bending them back, but they're actually damaged and won't return to original once they are bent.
    If you want to increase your chances of safely removing a PenBBS feed + nib, wrap the entire nib and feed in a wide postal rubber band. This gives you an excellent grip on the nib and feed, without putting pressure in the individual fins. Since you fully spread out your grip, the chance of something being bent is much smaller. I've only done it to three pens by now, but all with great success (after ruining the first one I did without this trick).
    Note: the broken feed fins don't really affect the writing much, but it looks crappy, which is a shame on such good looking pens.

    Thank you! This is the most useful video I've found for instructions on replacing nibs. I'm replacing the nib on my Opus 88 demonstrator, and your video was a great help.

    Thanks, Dave. This gave me the information and courage to swap out my Opus 88 Demonstrator medium nib with a Nemosine #6 0.6 mm stub nib. Your instruction to keep the nib unit screwed into the Opus 88 body was the key to getting that nib removed, and it worked like a charm!

    Thank you for the video. One thing I suggest is to make sure the nib being switched actually fits in the cap. The clearance between the top of the cap and the nib tip on the PenBBS 308 is tight. If the new nib is taller on the feed than the the original, it may hit the top of the cap. The PenBBS 309 and 456 have much more clearance for this type of switch. I have had no issue with Bock on the PenBBS 308, but have have heard Jowo might be an issue (I haven't tried).

    I'm a bit confused about putting on vintage nibs tho! How do you know what's th correct size for that?

    • @PenultimateDave
      @PenultimateDave  5 років тому

      The size of the nib is measured at the base of the nib, the bit that goes into the section of the pen. Not all nibs of the same size are the same though, some will have different curvatures meaning some may fit and some may not fit if you are using the same feed from the pen you are putting the replacement nib into.

    Please, can you tell what kind of nib does Koloro demostrator Opus 88 have? I would like to change its nib for a 1.5 stub. Thank you very much.

    Does the Aurora Ipsilon nib unscrew from the section?

      Sorry I don't know as I don't have an Ipsilon, I do have an Aurora 88 and that has a screw in nib unit so it might be a screw in nib unit but sometimes manufacturers will change depending on the price of the pen between friction fit and screw in nib units.

      I had the same question and never could find out so I experimented. Turns out, it's a friction fit -- a very tight, friction fit. I soaked mine in cool water overnight then was able to pop it out.
