  • In the event of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, I realized that in order to ensure the safety and security of foreign people coming to Japan, it is necessary to know in advance what to do in the event of an earthquake.
    So I made this video.
I have summarized the latest earthquake information in English.
Having knowledge in advance will be the number one thing that will help save your life when an earthquake actually occurs. So please take this opportunity to learn about earthquakes.

Thank you Miley for such useful information! I always remember you keep an emergency bag near your front door for earthquakes. I am so sorry about your earthquake experience and losing your job at Disney soon after. You are so optimistic always and full of happiness and smiles with your humour, ideas and information about Japan. I am amazed by all your skills that has helped you overcome all the bad things that have happened! Thank you again.

Excellent and informative video, Miley sensei! Fortunately, I live in a part of the USA where earthquakes are few and far between, and the earthquakes that do occur are so small that most people don’t even notice. However, I’m glad to know this useful advice, just in case!😊
Thank you for sharing your experiences during the last major earthquake you lived through! It’s great to know that you learned from it and can help others! I still worry about you when I think about the possibility of a major earthquake in your area, but it gives me comfort knowing that you’re prepared for it when it happens!😁
I love the glasses! They make you look so sophisticated and mature! Very nice!👍 But I must say that the Japanese Elle Woods outfit from instagram the other day is one of my favorites! The tights were the perfect touch!🥰
My friend actually ordered a set of those posca pens immediately after I showed her your reply… Yep, she loves that kind of stuff!
Take care, Miley, and have a wonderful day! Thanks again for this important video! Stay safe, Miley! The world is a much better place with you in it!🥹 See you next time and much love always!💕

There are no major earthquakes in America, and the houses are spacious, so I think America is a better place to live for a long time!✨

Miley you are the best for explaining complicated surviving in Japan . Worked many years ago now retired, for a major Japanese corporation with visits every two years to Tokyo pre 2011. I still watch NHK and their what to do programmes are lacking reality. Your simple plan for survival was shown via inhouse information at hotels people will watch, has the perfect blend reality with humour and style.Your love of people and life shines through.

Thank you shaking Sensei Miley. 🙏🙏2011 was not easy for you. Your videao is now really something what could happen and on what you don’t pay attention when you go on holiday. Of course I am not used to it because I am coming from Amsterdam which is built on a swamp,🐸 no earthquakes, but we could have catastrophic flooding’s.🏊‍♂
Now I am working in France in a research centre which includes a nuclear power plant. They found out 20 years ago that there is a fault or fracture under this area with a (small) risk of an earthquake😱. Keep fingers crossed.😓

If you're an American citizen traveling to or living in Japan, you can register with the U.S. State Department prior to the trip. I experienced a mild earthquake in Lembang in Indonesia in 2013,I will always remember the ceiling light swaying and I was told to evacuate quickly , I cannot imagine how scary it was for you in 2011 enduring the huge earthquake and tsunami.

Be strong and do the right thing, it matters. I live in the dessert. We don't have very big earth quakes. But it's very hot. It's important in big earthquakes to be lucky. It's also important to be lucky in dangerous environments. If I was you, I would bleach some newspaper and make a earthquake info paper and read it outside once a day.

Great video. Despite talking about death and tears, your video still made me smile.
I lived in California briefly and there are many earthquakes there. They taught most things in your video in school but not about tsunamis.
My biggest was a 7.0 when visiting Valparaiso, Chile. I was waiting for sunset at the beech. Light poles swaying, I had trouble standing. But I saw no damage. The sea looked calm (I was stupid 🤐), no damage seen so I felt safe. There were city alarm sirens, and a police car drove buy with announcements in Spanish that I didn't understand. My phone was very low on battery so I didn't try to translate. Later, another police came and forced everyone to leave. I later learned there was a tsunami warning!! 😮Luckily only 16cm.
In the US, all phones can call emergency 911 even if there is no SIM. Is this the same in Japan (for 110/9)? When I went to japan, I could only buy a data-only sim. I asked about one to make calls and they required monthly plans. So most tourist can't make normal calls unless using data.
Also remember, that after one overcomes a difficult time, they usually become stronger! It is also good to know that Ganko and Bulma are willing to protection in an emergency 🤗

I read in a study of trapped earthquake survivors, the ones who lay on the floor right next to a bed or a sofa are less likely to be crushed by large falling object or collapsing building.
They found that the bed or sofa and the floor would make a stronger triangle space 📐with the large falling objects better than if they hide under a table with skinny legs which tends to collapse on top of the person.

Dear Smiley! ❤ I am so happy and relieved that you got through the earthquakes! ❤ I was under the impression that the earthquakes were on the other side of Japan from where you are. I guess I should have a better sense of Japanese geography and been a little more worried for you. Forgive me for being so thick! Thank you for your wonderful and helpful earthquake tips. Living in the American Midwest and East Coast, the earthquakes I've experienced were just "babies" - Something you would hardly notice or, at worst, feel like you were standing too close to the tracks when a train went by. Give my regards (and my stuffed animal friends') to your stuffed friends! ❤

Miley, have a wonderful weekend. Hope you're fine and safe. You talked about something today that is really painful. No one could have imagined that such a big disaster would happen at the beginning of this year. You explained everything very nicely today. Yes, it's true that Japan is one of the countries with the highest number of earthquakes in the world. I have only one question for you. That is, how is your family and everyone there now? Looking forward to see your next video. Always stay safe, healthy and happy. Good night and sweet dreams. Please take good care of yourself. 🎉🎉

Thank you for your comment🥰🥰✨✨✨Fortunately, my family and home are safe and everyone is doing well!
Many people in Japan have earthquake insurance. The number of people purchasing earthquake insurance has increased due to the recent New Year's earthquake.
Leave the insurance to my best friend Cona-chan😘 hehe

Thanks for information. They do not happen so often in Europe. Lamps shake a bit, items fall off the shelf, but that's it. Never as catastrophic, as in Japan. What can an untrained tourist do?

Thank you Miley for this very informative video. I am sorry to hear how you suffered in 2011 but was happy to hear that this past earthquake did not affect you as much. I do have a question. You mentioned using a sim card while traveling to get emergency alerts. When we come to Japan, we use the pocket wifi to connect to the internet while there. Do you know if the emergency alerts will be transmitted when using this device?

    • @smileytime
      @smileytime  5 місяців тому

thank you for your nice question!
For pocket Wi-Fi, your smartphone is set to your country's mode. Therefore, you will not be able to receive the emergency information. The easiest way to receive information is to replace your SIM card. It's like changing your SIM and turning your smartphone into a Japanese people!
SIM cards are cheapest to purchase at Japanese airports.
you can also purchase it in your country in advance, but the price will be higher!

Thats terrible you went through all that, didnt you have family with you during the 2011 one? I live in the southern part of Australia and we had bad tremors down here last year, I was laying back on a reclining couch at the time so I just stayed laying down while my chair rocked and everything shook for a couple of minutes so I had a taste of the danger. I didnt panic I actually relaxed cos I knew I couldnt do anything and moving wasnt going to help I just had to wait.

Fortunately, I live on an island where big earthquakes are unheard of. Useful information nonetheless. Of course if like Miley your apartment is full of soft toys, just dive right into them for protection 🤣🤣! But seriously, I loved how you used your bad earthquake experience to inspire you to better things in your future 😃. Thanks for the advice 🥰🥰
