@@taylorthomas4962 oh noooooooo Glad I could help out tho LOL I went a full year in CK2 without knowing about the character finder tool, so don't feel too bad
The marriage filters search for fertile spouses by default - my favorite thing to do when I don't want more kids is to change that to search for only infertile spouses. They aren't always fully infertile - it seems they get categorized there even if they're simply chaste or have the -50% fertility congenital trait, but it's also useful for finding 45+ year old ladies to use for prestige/alliances/stats
The game calculates fertility by average of the two person, so, if you’re very fertile then there it is. Female can have kids up to 45, so Id suggest you to sort by age.
I did the achievement the slow slow way - starting as France in 1066, moving my way over to the Byzantines, offering to be vassalized, making progress from the inside eating all the territories, creating and becoming King of Thessalonikki, then declaring independence and making a dash for Constantinople. I agree it takes a lot of time, and there's a lot of variables along the way (particularly the time when my realm was inherited by a Welsh Cathar and I spent 15 years just getting back to normal...), so your approach is definitely better in basically all respects. But I did have fun!
I went through all this and sadly the achievement didn't fire :( I'll have to try again later . . . Ah! I forgot to get all the counties of Thessalonika. Second try and there is a jihad against me followed by my own vassals starting an independence war! 😊 Ok so on to try three!
I obtained this achievement with the Jarl Haesteinn. I conquered the County of Naples and later the Kingdom of Thessalonia. The emperor of the Byzantine Empire had no allies, I had 500 gold and hired 3 mercenary companies plus an alliance that I made. After winning the war (on the third attempt) I adapted the culture of my county (French). Edited: You don't have to be a Catholic to get the achievement. I was Asatru and still got the achievement
I just finished my massive Mother of Us All achievement and apparently all achievements that require you to start as a specific character are bugged (if you exit the game at any point after that original character has died the achievement becomes unavailable) so I didn't get it and I'm heartbroken
I did the exact same thing lol. It sucks because I really like those achievements because it gives a bit of structure to what I am doing. Going to hold of until they get patched though.
I think it is kinda random. I have the capet dynasty achievement (seventh generation ı guess and it is character specific) but game didnt give me willy the fox even though requirements were met.
Its worse. I did it 3 times, never exited the game or even went back to main menu. That achievement is straight up bugged. No way of doing it from what i can tell.
I did this back when the wiki said to play as the HRE, culture convert, and then invade Byzantine. Seemed like too many steps to me. While I did do it as Haesteinn and not your method, I didn't experience any RNG outside of the norm. I found zero difficulty it accomplishing this achievement since I just vassalized myself to Byzantine for protection, waited on the money (which takes hardly any time as Thessalonika) and then started an independence faction (abducting the Basileus prior to enforcing). It was all very easily controllable with little to no RNG involved. The achievement was completed in October of 880 for me. On speed 5 I think it took me like 20 minutes, if that. My point being is that there's not that much RNG involved in Haesteinn. The only RNG issue I had was that Byzantine was allied to West Francia and I still won the war without issue. But at the end of the day, that's the beauty of paradox games. There's more than one way to skin the underbelly of the Byzantine Empire.
I did it pretty easily by creating a custom french orthodox character as the duke of thelassoniki and then conquering enought to form the kingdom within the empire, breaking off of it with a independance faction, murdering the empire for every needed lands with strong allies, and divorcing my then wife to adopt catholicism from a new wife. It might sound like a lot but honestly it was quick and fun.
so basically instead of trying to obtain Thessalonik from the Byzantines as a French catholic via conquest you play as the Byzantine emperor, make a French catholic heir and break off Thessalonik and let your heir rule there
I don't know why people would spend the time to educate Haesteinn's heir as French since you can just launch the invasion after doing a lot of raiding to get a lot of money to make titles, then convert to local culture since you start with your capital being French. I only really did this as Haesteinn because I wanted to make his achievement an actual challenge compared to say, just aiming for Brittany/Ireland.
@@joshkercenneck2357 started as the Count of Milan in the 800s start, expanded my realm within Italy and when the crusades started I managed to win thw crown of Jerusalem, from then on, with the bonus units you get from the crusade, it was pretty easy to win against the muslim states and snowball, this was made easier by the fact that for the first time, my subjects actually helped converting the culture of my realm, so I could advance the cisalpine culture relatively fast. at around the 1030s I got all the required land and reformed the empire of Outremer. Haesting's achievment is easy. Brittany is a kingdom and as long as they dont ally with France it's easy to take both Leon and Brittany which makes you a king in like 5 years. If they do ally with France, it's still not hard as you have the special troops. If RNG screws you restart it's only a few years to replay.

Question about this - I've tried this three times now exactly as you described but I always get a vassal uprising during my independence war, or during the war for Constantinople right after. I end up losing titles before I can get all of Thessalonika under my control. Any way around this or just keep trying and hope RNG works better next time? Awesome content, btw.
My immediate advice for mad vassals would be to give the most powerful ones some council slots and if that's not enough, just hand it a few of your counties to the angry vassals! That way you should be good to go
Does CK3 have a kill list? I couldn't find it on character screen. Oh it would be so cool to have a "dynastic kill list", listing all deaths made by the dynasty members, and it would be especially cool to have a list of "wiped out dynasties" :3
So in your run, which will happen often considering that decision to reclaim Constantinople is free, there is RNG along with RNG of having several sons. Your big complaint against the Haestienn route is acquiring the 1k gold to make two Duke titles and one King title? He starts off with 500 gold and you can easily make an addition 300 from ransoming captives during that war. Let alone raiding Byz once the war is finished. EDIT: Not to mention Hasteinn can divorce his wife on day 1 with the 100 piety he has, so you have only 1 son with 100% chance of becoming French and Catholic. I don't know, the other way seems easier considering that Haesteinn has more troops than Byz does. However you are correct, considering that Haesteinn can get this done in like 5 years instead of 18.
I'm probably missing something but after watching this video I tried to do it the Haesteinn way and in no way did I have more troops than the Byzantines. I stood no chance in that war.
I tried this, but my vassals turned on me just days before we retook Constantinople. Dunno if we'd have got 100% warscore, but ah well EDIT: Managed it!
I'll do this to get the achievement then because i was going to do it as a side goal in my Capet Run, I was going to do it in my karling to roman empire run but because i formed rome through the byzantine empire title i didnt get the achievement unfortunately.
This plain out doesnt work. At all. I do manage to get to the point where I have most of the byzantine empire without being emperor, but due to all the steps you describe the vassals hate one so much that literally everyone breaks off before you can win your first war. And in multiple tries the independence was never granted, despite having 10 times the military power.
I was gone, but now I return! Daily videos coming up yet again - Happy to be back!
i miss you
You were not here, but now you are not not here.
A quick tip to avoid having any unwanted sons: When you search for a french wife, under the "fertility" option, choose infertile
