MOOC send me here! Thanks John, you are a great teacher. Good flow, spicy tricks. Well done. I am searching for some whales data around the world, any ideas?
hello! making a round gradient is simple, because you can just apply a gradient of circular continuous type to a rectangle. but the sort of vignette in this spilhaus map is complex because it follows the coastline. i made it in photoshop and added it as an image to the Pro layout. here are a hand full of resources for vignettes: ua-cam.com/video/qiQ9IxHk-IE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/2tag4pvndMo/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/PuYOzi8zuXs/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/ECTNpqvUlVk/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/7xz2KSNI1ws/v-deo.html
the overlay is just a graphic that covers up the part of the layout. Much of the other four frames will spill out beyond the edge of the overlay graphic. but these don't appear when you export the layout: only the area within the layout is exported in your image.
Hey John, just wondering where you got your oceans shapefile from? I downloaded one from Natural Earth but it doesn't have the ocean attributes for labelling! :) Thanks in advance, great video as always!
I was today's years old to correctly pronounce Vignette. Meanwhile, what's the keyboard you use, mate? Definitely a Mechanical I suppose, but is it Blue switches? Because, though a landscape archaeologist, it's a first-timer in GIS for me ( thanks to ESRI's MOOC) and seems like my Apple Keyboard and mouse are non-friendly when working with these applications, so do you recommend any preferred mouse and keyboard combo for easing my ginormous 8" hands.
first time to hear about that coordinate system! thank you
get ready to live!
Here from the MOOC. Spilhaus is very cool!
welcome, Chuck! yeah, what a projection. i love it.

wow, thanks! yes! here's a great source of public animal-tracking data: www.movebank.org/cms/webapp?gwt_fragment=page=search_map
search for "whale"
So pretty!
thanks!
Magnificent
Thanks!
I love this! How can I fill in the polar gaps when making my own? Is there imagery to download for that?
@@connorl7927 thanks! I’ve found it’s easiest just to set the background color to the water’s color.
and here's a Pro project with an ocean layer under the polar extent: www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=9b2ce7c8179b4744af7bf3ddb86b7804
Hi Mr. John, here from the MOOC. How do we can make a vignette by ourselves? If possible, please guide.

Hie John. Please how do the other 4 frames disappear when you insert the Vignette overlay?
the overlay is just a graphic that covers up the part of the layout. Much of the other four frames will spill out beyond the edge of the overlay graphic. but these don't appear when you export the layout: only the area within the layout is exported in your image.

Ah, the labels come from a natural earth water body layer I think. I can check when I’m back at a computer.

I use a junky keyboard but I am looking at upgrading to a mechanical. I like ergonomic though so the combo is too expensive so far.
HI John Im having trouble making disappear the frames without cutting the shape of the layout. please tell me.
Hmmm not sure. Sorry!
I have not line Vignette Ovarlay?
Find it in a link in the details.
