Much appreciate your posting this video. Particularly, Ryu Narushima him self's admitted his defeat. From that point, he has convinced himself to the higher level. That's a true application of the moral virtue, I think.
Kyokushin is one of very small number of traditional MAs where we can see the sensei explains techniques with very little talk and focus more on the application of the techniques. In Aikido, for instance, we often see a sensei explains hours and hours without letting the students move at all :D
EXACTLY! I'm happy someone finally gets it! I don't do Kyokushin (i do shotokan) but i respect these guys immensely. I've talked to several Kyokushin guys and they all say that they train face punches, just don't use them in tournaments because of the bare knuckles. Everyone always talks down because of no face punches. Those are the people who have never actually been punched in the face lol.
My dad teaches Kyokushin, and he teaches how to punch in the face, in fact i believe all kyokushin practitioners and teachers show how to punch to the face, you just can't in tournaments because they are dangerous.
Osu! Thank you for uploading. UA-cam suggested a trailer for this training video with a few highlights, and I've shown it to so many people to give them an idea of what karate can be like. McDojo owners cringe when they see this video! Thank you and osu!
The reason why no face punch is because kicks to the head are easier to dodge / block. Note that Kyokushin fighters do not use any protective gear including head gear. Despite that, kicks to the head can knock you out. Osu!
It is wonderful when you teach a person karate at that young of age. When they get older it pays off. I do wish they wait until they are older till blackbelts.
in tournaments, punches in the face are not allowed but street fight have no rules pal... and im sure that a kyokushin punch in the face do some serious damage!
Yeah I know that. That's the same for kick in the head thus. That's why in my dojo we always work light contact in the head but no restriction on the body.
from my point of view, the face is a common easy target even not for experienced martial arts. If you can build such a strong body resistance, all you have to do is protect your head area. Even though face strike is not allowed in traditional Kyokushin fight, most of prominent fighters of kyokushin can make it big in all out fights such as K1. If you always compare to street fighting, why not let groin strike of even bottle swing to be used in a martial art fight? :)
Rizal Djohan And remember Kyokushinkai is still Karate, dirty fighting galore!! Originally it was no holds barred Now it's been very limited due to the injuries in history. In the most traditional Kyokushinkai fights face hits with the upper striking points were common, in more modern Kyokushin they are forbidden however
I admit I will never be able to practice Kyokushin. I know the rules, but each tim I see them fighting my soul is yelling "Punch the head Punch the head ! Don't stay that close you'll gonna be punched !". I know that's forbiden, but that's a reflex...
Thank u so much Ovodilen for the upload, this is the best Ryu's video, where can l get to download it so that l can play it for my dojo members to learn real kumite with technique. Pliiz help or upload it smewhere & privide the link. Osu!!!
with EXTREME respect for mas oyama. NOTE THE RESPECT if it were on the street and he got atkd nowadays he would get demolished the only reason he was so good was because the kyokushin sparring was close quarters all the time no distance between people at all and no strikes to the head and no grappling
With all due Respect, he did participate in several altercations in his youth, and up to the time he was already training in Shotokan Karate, his experiences led him to the conclusion he needs to dig deeper to the roots of Karate. His creation Kyokushin w/c means the ultimate truth, Kyokushin is fighting Karate based on his actual experience. Besides the ultimate self defense is a sense of awareness of your surroundings and the ability to diffuse a fight even before it happens. Peace brother Osu
John Sia Your comment shows that you do not know much about Kyokushin or martial arts. I don't mean to say this in an aggressive way, it's just an honest observation. Mas oyama was such a powerful striker that he put down many fighters with just one punch. the original kyokushin had bare knuckle fists to the face and also mas Oyama practiced Judo. and contrary to what most brawlers think, grappling is not always effective or invincible. its just another set of skils useful to know.
+John Sia I dont practice karate kyokushin but i practice Muay Thai(25 years), TKD (6years), and karate shotokan (2 and half). based on what u said, I cant help but to call u "naive," and I apologize if u feel offended. I have seen many kyokushin fighters fighting in the kyokushin matches or in K1, and this is my conclusion; I see Muay Thai, karate shotokan, and TKD aspect in Kyokushin which I will not bother explaining here and now. That is why I am here watching these vids to learn more about karate kyokushin. I have respect for those guys. Oh, about the "no strikes to the heads" u said is a problem with TKD as well. In TKD, there is no punching in the face just like kyokushin.
+Liquidcadmus i totally agree with ya. And this is some info about kyokushin u have probably missed: they did allow punching in the face in the early kyokushin. One more thing i want u to notice as well. Even for muay thai or any type of art that allows hitting the face, practitioners often "forget" face guard a lot. Watch muay thai or MMA fight and u can tell there are a whole bunch of them drop their guards down often. However, that problem can be fixed as long as they practice. I believe they can fix that problem in 1-2 months max. Like i said, all arts are dangerous as long as practitioners put 100% or even more into it. :)peace
"Even" boxing is great for self defense. The question you have to ask yourself is defense against what? Because if you are thinking about guns and knives you are probably better off buying a glock and stayin out of bad neighborhoods. I studied several martial arts and while it is true that most of them include "artistic" moves, most teach you basic self defense. The thing is, those moves are not seen in tournaments, because of the dangers they pose.
Punches to the head a really bad for health and brain. 3-4 years of combats with punches to the head and deep thinking will not be an advantage any more.
For those of you who play Tekken 4 and onward, Ryu Narushima does the motion capture for Jin Kazama's Karate
Also Kazuya
Really?? I can't find any videos of it
Kazuya e o Heihachi também...
Já que o Kyõkushin é uma estilo bem influenciado pelo, Shotokan Ryū e o Gõjū Ryū...
Narushima Sensei is amazing, my favorite Karateka, he shows that technique is more important than size

The original Jin Kazama!
Lembrei do mangá Shamo quando li esse nome
Não seria surpresa o Ryo ser baseado nesse cara, pq eu tenho quase certeza que o banryukai é real inspirado no kyokushin
Verdadeiro Mestre De Kyokushin !!!
True Master Of Kyokushin !!!
Spirit is everything. He proves it in his battle with Filho. Almost triple his body mass but still continues to fight. Narushima sensei is my idol.
This is the guy who did the motion capture work for Jin Kazama in Tekken. legend.

I just learned of Ryu through Shamo. I recommend reading it.
awsome video I love kyokushin if you truely understand, spirt is the most important thing
How often are ribs broken in Kyokushin?
こんなにも蹴り技を綺麗に出せるものなのか。凄いです
You can definatly use these skills for self defense. But yeah, there's more to Kyokushin than pure self defense

Never Found English subs ! Hey Japanese reveal your secrets :)
why no guard?
Ardian xhelili
There is a guard but this is Tournament training so the guard is more mid since face punching isn't allowed in open tournaments
How can we do if we take a punch in the face ? I love kyokushin, but in the street not everyone strike only the body.
davidTpoches
You are trained properly in Kyokushin schools, refer back to my other comments
no subs?
why is he dropping his guard at 33-34 i was told never to do this
Nija Bhaava because he's ryu narushima and he's good enough to drop his guard for a second or two.
